Voting Question: What are some ideas for a fake product?

I have to make an ad for an imaginary product. The name has to include a poetic device (rhyme, alliteration, allusion, etc.). I have to identify a target market (teens, grandmothers, etc.) and do the four p's-product, price, place, and promotion. The class example product was "Chunks o' Cheese". The slogan for that was "We cut the cheese the best." I would like mine to be funny (if possiblee). It doesn't have to be, but I need something that isn't completely retarded or silly. I don't want a crazy product, but it has to be creative. Thank youu. :) more

Resolved Question: If you had to make an ad of yourself, what would your slogan be?

Resolved Question: Did you know the Reformers invented five Latin sola's ?

During the Protestant Reformation, the Reformers invented five Latin sola's ( sola means only), that summarized their protestant belief system about getting "saved". Sola fide ("by faith alone") Sola scriptura ("by Scripture alone") Sola gratia ("by grace alone") Solus Christus or Solo Christo ("Christ alone") Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone") Strange that the one sola that does appear in the bible contradicts the very sola itself. Works (good works, not useless Jewish works of the law) are part of being justified. James 2:24: "You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone." The next one is "Scripture Alone", which does not appear anywhere in the bible. 2 Timothy 3:16: "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness," The word "alone" does not appear in it anywhere. The word profitable does not mean only. The next one, "Grace Alone", isn't found in the Bible either. The fourth one, "Christ Alone", also sounds great. Who could argue with the fact that we are saved by Christ alone? The problem with this is that the 3rd person of the Blessed Trinity, the Holy Spirit, also plays a HUGE role in our salvation. The last one is Soli Deo Gloria, or "Glory to God Alone". This one also sounds like a winner. However, there is one problem with it. Jesus Himself said in John 17:22 that He gave His glory to his apostles (at the Last Supper, when He gave them the Eucharist). Catholics could come up with a lot of these solas. Since the bible says that we must eat and drink the body and blood of Jesus to have life within us (John 6), then we could say that we are saved by "The Eucharist alone". And since Paul talks about the value of personal suffering for the Church in Colossians 1:24, we could say that we are saved by "Suffering alone". And since the Bible says that the Church is the pillar and bulwark of Truth (1 Timothy 3:15), then we could formulate the doctrine of being saved by "The Church alone". And since we have to be forgiven for our sins before we can enter heaven, we could come up with the doctrine of "Confession alone". And how many more of these could we invent if we had the time? Lots. But to no purpose whatsoever. The Bible was meant to be taken as a whole, and to not be broken down into parts for convenience' sake. Catholics have nothing against "faith" or "grace" or "Christ" or "Glory to God." Catholics could even add the word "alone" to all those and still have an orthodox Catholic understanding of them. The problem with the approach of using those terms is that they mean very different things to Catholics and Protestants, so it is not advised that a Catholic should use them due to the risk of blurring the real and serious differences. That is "Protestant terminology" which is best left to describe their teachings. I think Catholics and Protestants both agree everything is ultimately done for the glory of God. A famous Catholic slogan (often abbreviated AMDG) is "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" which means "To the Greater Glory of God!" But, sola Scriptura allows each man to be his own authority Sola fide and sola Grace allows men to avoid the responisiblity of his actions, through the cleaver attributibution of everything to God Christ Alone and Glory to God alone, are simply cleaver ways to argue against the Church and its Saints being able to help people get to heaven. What are your thoughts on all or any of the 5 sola's? more

Resolved Question: Name 3 favourite and 3 least favourite commercials you've seen all time on Aussie TV?

My 3 Favourite Commercials: 3. Not sure why but when I was only a year old (1992) I used to love some Maggi Noodles ad. I think the slogan was 'Maggi Makes My Day' or something. I used to love the song/jingle they made for it. And I still remember it to this day. I remember most of it :):) And I found the video for it on YouTube I think so I can watch it over and over and never get sick of it :) 2. The Sleepmaker ad with the pom-pom mama. It's so hillarious when she dances with her pom poms. Haven't seen the ad since like what 2003 2002. I used to love it so much! Everytime I taped a show, I always stopped it at the ad break but always taped that one commercial. Priceless stuff!!! 1. The Hahn Premium Light when the man just jumps into the spa, drinks a beer and I think it's extremely funny when he says "What?" as if he hasn't done anything. LOL!!! Best ad of all time for me! My 3 Least Favourite Commercials: 3. Tooheys beer or something. The ad where the tongue came out of the man's mouth. Absolutely disgusted me!!! Everytime I saw the couple in bed, I changed the channel immediately. I hated it so much one day that I timed how long the damn ad went for (with a disgusted look on my face) and then everytime it came on, I'd watch a second of it. Then change the channel for another lot of seconds. I forgot how long because it was so long ago. About 2003 or 2004 or something? 2. Nando's Chicken about 2 years ago. The bloody shite was playing on in daytime as well!!! As a 16 year old at the time, I was extremely disgusted about this and was about to write a complaint to how APPALLING this shite was. Even my mother was disgusted by this. I have a 1 year old brother, a 5 year old sister, a 6 year old sister, a 12 year old brother, a 15 year old sister and a 20 year old brother. A 5, 6 and 12 year old being exposed to this kind of rubbish is not on!! And I was happy when it finally got pulled. 1. LATE NIGHT ADS !!!!! This includes the fooking mobile ads that say "Hi. It's me Samantha. Who says you can't work and play? Watch us while Melissa and I get wild and dirty on your mobile." And all this shite. I remember last year/earlier this year they had other ads for Longer Lasting Sex, The Erection Problem Piano ad, other lesbian ads/stripping women mobile ads, "How many partners has this dicke been with?", The Partner Tracker, Lavalife with three dumb women talking etc etc. These late night ads have been going on for as long as I can remember. At least 5-10 years. Correct me if I'm wrong. And when these ads come on, your parents walk past and question you about what you're watching on TV. I mean, come on. How could this pass the standards to even come on TV?Oops forgot to mention that my 5 and 6 year old sisters were 3 and 4 when this aired and my 12 year old brother was 10. more

This position is best supported by examining the following aspects: the subject matter; target audience; logo/slogan; layout; and use of colour and image. The subject matter is the magazine advertisement that sells and advertises lipgloss. The target audience according to the woman on the magazine could be women from ages 16-25 years. It could also be for the people that are sick of the lipgloss drying too fast or people that just want a glossy upgrade. Rimmel London is the logo for the unique lip-sculpting wand lip gloss. The slogan is “Live the London look”. The crown at the top of the letter ‘R’ suggests royalty and importance, making the product seem more upmarket. Royalty also suggests tradition and quality. Some manufacturers like their products to royal family by having the crown symbol on their packaging. Rimmel may be trying to add gravitas to their product by using a crown symbol. It further suggests that if you start buying lipgloss from Rimmel London you will have a “London look” to you. The connotative could be that it makes women look gorgeous when it’s placed on their lips. It has a longer lasting feel to it. This ad has a different layout from most other ads. First, this is very clutch up and has a lot of information. There is an attractive woman on the left wearing lipgloss which they are trying to persuade people to buy. This lady grabs the attention from such a big photograph of her. They are also trying to position the viewer by making them think that when you wear it you are going to look, beautiful, younger and getting the old fashion London look. On the left is the product of the advertisement. The interest is the lipgloss. At the bottom of the woman’s photograph is Lily Coles, who is also wearing stay glossy shade, but her picture is in black and white. She is representing as a London girl. There are smudges of lipgloss on the left and right corner of the page. On the bottom it says the product is available from: Priceline, Kmart, Target, Big W, selected Coles supermarkets and selected Pharmacies nationally or even from rimmellondone.com.au. The advertisers are convincing the people to buy it because it’s cheap from those selected, not expensive shops like Myer or Calvin Klein. There are various colours that the manufacturers used for this, including black and white images. The image they use were the pictures of different colour of lip gloss. The woman that has the lip gloss on and the black and white image represents two different ways that lipgloss looks beautiful in. According to the photographs they are stereotyping that every girl will look stunning when putting it on. The formal picture is the black and white looks like London. On the other hand the other photo looks like our fashion now. Everything’s colourful but there are two photographs that are not, which tricks your eyes making the viewer look at the non-colourful photograph. The big smudge of the lipgloss attracts you which make you look at the black and white picture, saying that it doesn’t look ugly but something unique. It has been shown that this particular lipgloss advertisement has a brand called Rimmel London. This has been shown by examining the following aspects: the subject matter, target audience; logo/slogan; layout; and use of colour and image. It has been shown that the “Stay Glossy Lipgloss” are suitable from ages 16-25 years. Exactly 600 words more

Resolved Question: How Jewish is Hollywood? ?

Only 22% of Americans now believe "the movie and television industries are pretty much run by Jews," down from nearly 50% in 1964. The Anti-Defamation League, which released the poll results last month, sees in these numbers a victory against stereotyping. Actually, it just shows how dumb America has gotten. Jews totally run Hollywood. How deeply Jewish is Hollywood? Chief Executive Leslie Moonves (so Jewish his great uncle was the first prime minister of Israel), MGM Chairman Harry Sloan (Jewish) and NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker (mega-Jewish). If either of the Weinstein brothers had signed, this group would have not only the power to shut down all film production but to form a minyan with enough Fiji water on hand to fill a mikvah. The person they were yelling at in that ad was SAG President Alan Rosenberg (take a guess). The scathing rebuttal to the ad was written by entertainment super-agent Ari Emanuel (Jew with Israeli parents) on the Huffington Post, which is owned by Arianna Huffington (not Jewish and has never worked in Hollywood.) The Jews are so dominant, I had to scour the trades to come up with six Gentiles in high positions at entertainment companies. When I called them to talk about their incredible advancement, five of them refused to talk to me, apparently out of fear of insulting Jews. The sixth, AMC President Charlie Collier, turned out to be Jewish. As a proud Jew, I want America to know about our accomplishment. Yes, we control Hollywood. Without us, you'd be flipping between "The 700 Club" and "Davey and Goliath" on TV all day. So I've taken it upon myself to re-convince America that Jews run Hollywood by launching a public relations campaign, because that's what we do best. I'm weighing several slogans, including: "Hollywood: More Jewish than ever!"; "Hollywood: From the people who brought you the Bible"; and "Hollywood: If you enjoy TV and movies, then you probably like Jews after all." I called ADL Chairman Abe Foxman, who was in Santiago, Chile, where, he told me to my dismay, he was not hunting Nazis. He dismissed my whole proposition, saying that the number of people who think Jews run Hollywood is still too high. The ADL poll, he pointed out, showed that 59% of Americans think Hollywood execs "do not share the religious and moral values of most Americans," and 43% think the entertainment industry is waging an organized campaign to "weaken the influence of religious values in this country." That's a sinister canard, Foxman said. "It means they think Jews meet at Canter's Deli on Friday mornings to decide what's best for the Jews." Foxman's argument made me rethink: I have to eat at Canter's more often. "That's a very dangerous phrase, 'Jews control Hollywood.' What is true is that there are a lot of Jews in Hollywood," he said. Instead of "control," Foxman would prefer people say that many executives in the industry "happen to be Jewish," as in "all eight major film studios are run by men who happen to be Jewish." But Foxman said he is proud of the accomplishments of American Jews. "I think Jews are disproportionately represented in the creative industry. They're disproportionate as lawyers and probably medicine here as well," he said. He argues that this does not mean that Jews make pro-Jewish movies any more than they do pro-Jewish surgery. Though other countries, I've noticed, aren't so big on circumcision. I appreciate Foxman's concerns. And maybe my life spent in a New Jersey-New York/Bay Area-L.A. pro-Semitic cocoon has left me naive. But I don't care if Americans think we're running the news media, Hollywood, Wall Street or the government. I just care that we get to keep running them. more

Resolved Question: Boyfriend and I want to rake leaves to earn extra money, where to hang our flyers and ads at?

My boyfriend and I want to make extra money for the holidays coming up. We thought of raking leaves. My parents would pay $10/hr for it, which is awesome, but we need to have an effective of advertising ourselves. I designed a flyer that's ready to go. It has a scene where there's pile of falling leaves and a rake and says "Need this done? We can keep your yard clean! Call XXX-XXX-XXXX to get a free estimate" I wonder if the above slogan is good enough, or should I try some other slogan? I don't have a lot of experience marketing myself. I don't feel comfortable door to door to complete strangers and would rather start out with people who I know and I'm a acquainted with first. Where would be the best places to hang up fliers in our neighborhood, without violating property or trespassing? more

Voting Question: Coupons for surgery? ?

I few days ago I was on Facebook and on the side of the screen I saw an ad about laser skin treatment about permanently removing hair. The slogan they used was "Goodbye razor, hello laser!" So I clicked on it (I felt it was relevant to me) to see what it was all about; I'm interested. When I got to the website, there was a contest where I could enter my info and have the opportunity to receive a coupon off of a laser treatment. Today, I got on and check my email and I got one from someone by the name of "Cortney Williams" telling me that I've won. This is what the email says: "Winner at American Laser Centers Good Afternoon My name is Cortney from American Laser Centers. You recently entered into our online contest and for showing interest in our company we are offering you a $300 coupon that you may use towards any of our laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation or cellulite reduction packages. Resolved Question: Finally finished my speech on melanomas, could someone read over it, and tell me if it's any good?

I've done it. can someone read it and tell me if it's any good? i want honest answers. don't mind spelling mistakes, is there anyhting i shuld take out? 1).should i bring in a wide brim hat, sun glasses, a bottle of sunscreen and along sleeve shirt? 2). have a sheet for everyone with pictures of melanomas and the cancer council website and number 3). or have a slide show in the back ground of pictures.. i'm 15, and i'm a girl, if that helps haha :S --- “Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat” Says Sid the cancer council seagull. Although this slogan is commonly used across our nation every summer, there is not enough education about sun safety through out our schools. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer. The most deadliest and rapid moving cancer of them all. The first sign of melanoma is usually a new spot or an existing mole or freckle that changes in appearance. Some of the changes might be that the spot may grow larger. The edges of the spot may look irregular rather than smooth. The spot may be mottled with a range of colours such as brown, black, blue, red, white or light grey. The spot may be itchy or may bleed. Here is an example of a melanoma...(this is where i'd show a picture of one) It's recommended that you go straight to the doctors when you notice these signs, every few months especially the warmer ones. you should get all your moles and freckles checked just to be on the safe side. People with fair skin are at higher risk of developing melanoma than those with darker skin. but it is no substitute for sunscreen and adequate protective clothing. As our earth is getting hotter and hotter, it should only be common sense that we should be taking further care of our skin. a long sleeve top, A wide brim hat, SPF15+ sunscreen, and protective sunglasses are suitable during the scorching summer temperatures. “Between 11am and 3pm, stay under a tree, the best sunscreen of all is absolutely free.” This statement is not true, because even during the coldest times of the year, you can still get sun burnt. And not only that, UV Rays are not the only thing that causes cancer, Tanning booths and pollution can trigger melanomas. Although there are several causes of cancer, there are also many, many myths about cancer. I’m sure a majority of you have heard that putting your mobile phone down your shirt or under your pillow of a night, causes cancer. Not true, I can assure you of that. Myth number 2). Household bug sprays causes cancer, Sleeping with an underwire bra causes cancer, Photocopying a body part causes cancer, applying sunscreen once a day will keep you safe from UV rays, You can’t get burnt when you’re in the snow. Pay no attention, for not one of these is true. On average; One in 24 males and one in 33 females will develop melanoma of skin by the age of 75. Every year over 9500 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed in Australia and more than 1200 people die. In 2003, melanoma of the skin was the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 19 and 25 to 54 and women aged 15 to 34. A recent sunscreen ad by Neutrogena Sunscreen features a young woman with the caption, 'My sister accidentally killed herself. She died of Skin Cancer'. The message is clear: Those who die of the disease only have themselves to blame. Although melanoma only accounts for 2% of cancer deaths, It is still ultimately important to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays. There are many different cancer fundraisers, for different kinds of cancers. World Cancer Day is marked on February 4th to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Jeans for Genes is a major fundraiser of the Children's Medical Research Institute. This includes Jeans for Genes Day, events, exhibitions and other fundraising events throughout the year. Daffodil Day is the largest fundraising event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the day of the year we invite all Australians to unite and lend their support to the fight against cancer. The money raised will help the Cancer Council to fund essential services, education and research programs, making a difference to lives of people with cancer today, and helping to protect lives tomorrow. A lot of people these days who have passed on from cancer, their families request that donations to the cancer council are made in lieu of flowers, so more money can be put in to research. Instead of money being wasted on flowers and dying like their loved ones. Cancer research has come such a long way in the past 2 decades. When you were diagnosed with cancer back then, It was almost like a death sentence. But now with cancer research and treatments, such as radiology and chemotherapy and certain medications, a lot can be cured it’s just when it reaches the vital organs, ie. Liver, lungs, bowel, the survival rate drops dramatically, I recently had a personal experience with melan more

Resolved Question: Is Hillary Clinton Posturing To Go Independant Should She Lose Against Obama?

Breaking the Final Rule By Gary Hart The Huffington Post Friday 07 March 2008 It will come as a surprise to many people that there are rules in politics. Most of those rules are unwritten and are based on common understandings, acceptable practices, and the best interest of the political party a candidate seeks to lead. One of those rules is this: Do not provide ammunition to the opposition party that can be used to destroy your party's nominee. This is a hyper-truth where the presidential contest is concerned. By saying that only she and John McCain are qualified to lead the country, particularly in times of crisis, Hillary Clinton has broken that rule, severely damaged the Democratic candidate who may well be the party's nominee, and, perhaps most ominously, revealed the unlimited lengths to which she will go to achieve power. She has essentially said that the Democratic party deserves to lose unless it nominates her. As a veteran of red telephone ads and "where's the beef" cleverness, I am keenly aware that sharp elbows get thrown by those trailing in the fourth quarter (and sometimes even earlier). "Politics ain't beanbag," is the old slogan. But that does not mean that it must also be rule-or-ruin, me-first-and-only-me, my way or the highway. That is not politics. That is raw, unrestrained ambition for power that cannot accept the will of the voters. Senator Obama is right to say the issue is judgment not years in Washington. If Mrs. Clinton loses the nomination, her failure will be traced to the date she voted to empower George W. Bush to invade Iraq. That is not the kind of judgment, or wisdom, required by the leader answering the phone in the night. For her now to claim that Senator Obama is not qualified to answer the crisis phone is the height of irony if not chutzpah, and calls into question whether her primary loyalty is to the Democratic party and the nation or to her own ambition. more

Resolved Question: What do you think about the word "change" as the political buzz word of the 2008 presidential election?

I for one, am just astounded that even the grammatical use of the word is compromised by candidates in order to work the word into almost every answer to pundits/journalist's questions. For instance: Hillary Clinton often states she has 35 years of experience "making change." That use of the word in this context sounds like she's referring to being a good cashier or something!!! What...does she go around asking people if they need quarters for a dollar so they can do their laundry!!! I'm pretty sure the Obama campaign originated the (over)use of the word in his campaign slogan and stump speeches "Change we can beleive in". I for one find that words lose their true meaning, power and effectiveness when used to sway and influence people's opinions and choices. The use of the word "change" in this election is now coined ad naseum. What do you think? Is one word the best way to convey what is needed most in our country now? How does the constant use of the word leave you feeling? To clarify this question just a bit more....I'm not stating that I am...."for" or...."against".... change from our current Government and political leadership's path, nor am I posing that as the question. The question is simply about this election's political buzz word "change". more

Resolved Question: Please help: need a slogan for a recruitment ad... any suggestions?

I'm helping a friend out with a print ad which needs a snappy slogan. They are an employment/apprenticeship scheme ethically oriented towards helping young people into the general work population. This ad in particular is to recruit new businesses to sign up to the scheme and offer employment through the agency. Currently their strap line is "Engaging Employers in Education" but we all agree this is very clinical and not as exciting/snappy as it needs to be. Does anybody have any quick suggestions? Perhaps something a little tighter like "Their Future. Your Future." Please please offer any suggestions whatsoever to get my creativity flowing a bit better... I must admit, I am not the best at writing :( more
