Open Question: I've got a art exam theme, Work, Rest and Play. Need some answers and ideas please?
The theme for my GCSE art exam is work, rest and play. This theme is really annoying as I have so many ideas but every time i ask my teacher for their help or say an idea they say to simple or not good enough! I really want to use the idea of the mars bar advert but reuse it and turn it into a pop art advert for something else maybe using my dogs as they could work for a dog biscuit and like advertise it out there? I really would appreciate some feedback and ideas please? Thank you. moreOpen Question: Can the owner of the Sun and Fox talk credibly about freedom of press?
Rupert Murdoch: Gulf states should open up to foreign media Guardian Unlimited, March 10, 2010 Rupert Murdoch called on Gulf states to open up their markets to global competition from companies such as his own News Corporation by cutting regulation and ending censorship. In a keynote speech expounding the value of media content for its ability to contribute to global economic growth at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Murdoch said light-touch regulation would help the oil-rich Arab city state build an effective creative industry. "A creative sector flourishes best in societies where governments intervene with a light hand," he told an audience of 550 delegates at the inaugural summit. Echoing a theme that is likely to be repeated at other events during the two-day summit, Murdoch promoted the idea of paying for content in a digital age in which much is expected to be free. "In many parts of the world, we are finding that the best way to finance quality content is by having a balance of advertising and subscription revenue," he said. Murdoch, the owner of the Times and the Sun in the UK as well as the Wall Street Journal, New York Post and Fox in the US, also made a call for press freedom in a country criticised by others for its censorship. moreOpen Question: is anybody willing to record me a voicover for a DVD i have to make advertising thorpe park?

You should - Explore the ways in which women can be presented, and how these presentations can be harnessed to market a range of products - Compare the way in which different genders perceive women and womanhood - Do you feel that such a universal focus is fundamentally exploitative and damaging? ***Any help you can give would be brilliant guys. are oversexualized? Seems from the advertising barrage I see on a daily basis, minor aged girls are increasingly made to appear overly mature, either by make-up or attire. What are your thoughts on this? Does our society force adulthood themes on children? moreVoting Question: I need help on a college essay!?
Okay, so I'm writing a compare and contrast essay about the articles by Kilbourne and Morgan. The questions given to use are: Compare Jean Kilbourne's analysis of sexism and violence in advertising to morgans discussion of the same themes in rap. What are the causes and consequences of "pornographic" depictions of women in popular culture according to each writer? Do you think kilbourne would concur with morgan about how we should respond to these images? Why or why not? p.s. The articles are: "Two ways a woman can get hurt" by Jean Kilbourne and "From fly-girls to bitches and hos" by Joan Morgan. Only answer if you've read these artices. I've started my essay, but I'm stuck! It has to a compare and contrast essay, and I struggle with those! moreResolved Question: Extreme wordpress modification.?
To all the experts out there, I am a wordpress/coding noob, but I have a couple of friends who can help me out if I ask them for something specific. I am considering changing my website to html because of the google ranking/crawling and after reading a lot of online articles I was impressed with wordpress' reputation. The top of my website (where the menu is) is very similar to the Mother advertising website (http://www.mothergrapevine.com). Can you point me out to where I can find customizable themes and accessible (for a noob) tips that can give me a step-by-step guide to how I can start off with my customization? Remember I have no problems with designing the layout and all of that, but when it comes to programming and web design, I have to read the guideline to INSTALL wordpress, so no rough stuff. moreResolved Question: What's the best way to stylize a ComicPress installation for my webcomic?
I am attempting to revolutionize the Internet (with a revolutionary new webcomic) and have stumbled into a most unfortunate barrier. Apparently "ComicPress" is not so plug-and-play, user-friendly, easy-to-use as it is advertised to be. Upon installing ComicPress (an arduous task I shan't bore you with the details of) I have discovered that I lack the knowledge to customize it beyond the predetermined themes. Perhaps I have missed the option available for such a task. Regardless, I require help, and have come to Yahoo! Answers in hopes of receiving at least some insight into this conundrum of coding. Site (for reference): http://teh1337sauce.net/I think I should be able to style a ComicPress install without having to learn an entirely new language. That's ridiculous. Millions of people have websites, and I doubt all of them are expert programmers. moreResolved Question: Firefox keeps freezing regularly?
Every one and a half (or so) seconds, Firefox will freeze for about half a second, and then continue exactly as it was before. IE doesn't do this, and the fault isn't with my computer. My computer runs as it always does. It's only really annoying when I'm scrolling with the middle mouse button, watching a video or playing a game, and it messes up my rhythm. The addons I currently have on firefox are: Adblock Plus Advertising Cookie Opt-Out BetterPrivacy Ctrl+Tab Download Statusbar DownloadHelper Stylish My theme is Black Steel, if that has anything to do with it. If anyone's been having the same problem and knows the solution, let me know.I'm using the most recent version of Firefox (3.6), and its RAM usage isn't even a quarter of what my computer can take. moreResolved Question: is digital media a good field to go in?
im going to college in the summer, i want to do something in sound or visual, animation type stuff. But, I didn't know the Olympics had any honor left........?
The media has been critical of snowboarder Kazuhiro Kokubo’s personal sloppy style as a violation of the Olympics’ honor. But, isn’t all this talk about violating the honor of the Olympics hypocritical given that: ** 1) Rich countries get to poach talent (and its glory) from poor countries by some corrupt system where a poor athlete can "trace his/her genetics" back to the rich country (as in, “we had a common microbial ancestor”), an obvious loop hole…(after all, if the Olympics was purely about representing individualism, why is the Olympics’ central theme framed as one nation competing against another)??...In a sense, the rich country takes the national pride away from the poor country simply by buying off the poor athlete (Isn’t that Piggish of us??). (… and JUST for some of you Habitual knee-jerk naysayers out there, Pepsi or Exxon can JUST AS WELL pay a poor Kenyan runner (or another country’s athlete) to represent his country’s flag as he can a Rich country’s flag – so don’t try to link poaching as being the only way a poor athlete can escape poverty via Olympics). 2) As it has been widely reported in various Olympic scandals for decades, "Points" & Medals are skewed to Athletes representing rich countries (in events that leave room for subjective interpretation, like Figure Skating, ect.) because of the Advertising Revenues that rich-country Viewers command. ** So, before people start criticizing Kokubo as being offensive to the honor of the Olympics, should the Olympics get its house in order first?? moreResolved Question: Did anyone notice this (The Who halftime show)?
The Who's halftime show included the beginning of "Pinball Wizard," a large section of "Baba O'Riley," a large section of "Who Are You," one line from "See Me, Feel Me," and a large section of "Won't Get Fooled Again." "Who Are You," "Won't Get Fooled Again," and "Baba O'Riley" had the longest samples. They all also happen to be the theme songs for CSI, CSI: Miami, and CSI: NY, which air on CBS, as did the Super Bowl. Coincidence or conspiracy? Coincidence theory: These songs, along with "My Generation," are arguably The Who's most famous songs, so it's a given that they would be featured tonight. Conspiracy theory: CBS hooked it up as subliminal advertising; The Who is cool with it because the more popular the show, the more they get paid for the use of the songs.and by paid more, I mean, the longer the show runs, the more they make...not that they get paid for an increase in ratings. moreResolved Question: What kind of course to take to learn to be a creative designer?

If you have heard the song Hero, by Skillet, the drummer/backing vocals, Jen Ledger, has an amazing voice. I first heard it on WWE's advertising for the Royal Rumble as it is one of the themes. First time i heard it, before i knew much about Skillet, i thought that Lacey guest vocaled in that song, but no it was Jen Ledger, who i think has almost a twin voice to Lacey. DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT ANY ONE OF THE PARTIES INVOLVED, NOR DO I REPRESENT EITHER OF THEM. I HAVE NO FINANCIAL OR LEGAL STAKE IN THIS MATTER. THIS IS SIMPLY A QUESTION, AND ONLY A QUESTION. NO OTHER INFORMATION SHOULD BE INFERRED. As you may know, Muzak, based in South Carolina, employs audio engineers which Muzak calls "Audio Architects". To my understanding, the Audio Architect (other companies have them, too) designs the music parameters for the store. In other words, the Audio Architect meets with the owner or store manager to consult with them on how the store can best use music to optimize the store's branding and themes, to increase sales and ultimately increase the store's profits. So, the Audio Architect determines the type of music (let's say, 90's pop-rock), the volume (let's say, 70 decibels), the musical parameters (let's say, high bass and low treble, low reverb, and many sound speaker locations, etc, etc, etc). Maybe he might even recommend adding a TV screen showing rock videos in the middle section of the store. OK. So here's my thought. Let's say a clothing store hires a Muzak Audio Architect to determine how they can maximize their revenue. The Audio Architect picks a bunch of parameters, and suggests ways to achieve better branding and make customers want to buy more, to increase the store's revenue. And let's say the Audio Architect doesn't make any guarantees. Result: The store gains 1.55 per cent in sales for the year, over the previous year. This is a 1.55 percent gain in a rough economy. But the store owner decides, "Looking at everything as a whole, and seeing the whole picture, this was probably a bad idea." So he gives the Muzak Audio Architect a call. They meet, and the Audio Architect replies, "You're wrong. Our company has proven results, and I have an excellent track record of proven sales increases and boosting profits." The clothing store owner relents, and they decide on slighty different parameters for all the music, speaker locations, reverb, loudness, etc, etc. The following year, the store only makes an 0.42 per cent gain in sales. So the clothing store owner decides, "Each year, my decision was a bad idea. With the market parameters, and our improved clothing quality, and our better shipping company, and our better and more professional clothing salespeople, we should have made at least 5 or 6 per cent profit each of those years." The Muzak Audio Architect replies, "You're wrong. We wrote the book on music-branding and audio architecture. Our system is failsafe." The clothing store owner says, "Yeah? Then why didn't our sales increase to 5 or 6 per cent?" Muzak Audio Architect replies, "I don't know, but our company statistics don't lie. Ours is a proven formula. And, we didn't guarantee you 5 percent anyway. In fact, we didn't guarantee 0.1 per cent. Maybe you made bad decisions on your shipping company, or your maintenance crew, or your returns policy. Say what you want, but you can never prove us wrong." So here's my question: is the Muzak Audio Architect correct? Is Muzak Audio Architecture a failsafe system? Can the Muzak Company back up their results with sophisticated scientific statistical-based studies? Please don't give an answer such as, "You've got to be kidding, man. Muzak has proven results, or companies all over the world wouldn't hire them. Muzak has testimonials from customers all over the world." OK, I agree that they have positive testimonials. But what do we say about negative testimonials? Is Muzak a failsafe system? How can we know that their statisticians are correct? Thank you for your answers = ) Perhaps you are an advertising professional? a statistician? a corporate branding firm? an expert in musicology? What say you? Thank you =)My purpose is to determine whether Muzak's verifiability is unfalsifiable. This case study, as I understand it, indeed provides experimental evidence. It was (is) an experiment in itself. In other words, the store owner experimented with Muzak's "formula", so to speak, and ultimately became skeptical. Consider the following truth. I asked a famous consultant to the entertainment industry, "There are retail stores that have a strict silence policy at all times. No Muzak, no Sirius Satellite, no TruSonic, no DMX, and no boom-boxes. And if you look at their in-store sales and revenue, they have done outstanding and are incredibly successful." He replied, "But you can't prove that they wouldn't have performed *even better* if they piped loud music into their stores." So I'm thinking, "Two can play that game! You can't prove that they *would* have done better with any broadcast piped-in music!" So we have an impasse here. What are your thoughts? Can either view be proven??? moreResolved Question: Tagline for a Circus?

http://billsportsmaps.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/2009-2010_english-premier-league_sized-for-attendance_r.gif ARSENAL: When you have a big gun in your crest is cause you have a small "gun" somewhere else. Other than that the crest is so plain and boring you can fall asleep just by looking at i....zzzzzzz ASTON VILLA: "Prepared" is the first word that comes to one's mind when they think of football *** rolling eyes*** Besides the irrelevant, uninspiring word the three colors of the crest go together like jam, steak and avocado. If you just thought "wth" thats exactly what I'm thinking everytime I'm looking at it: "wth is this??" WEST HAM: When you have two hammers on your crest you know you have a classy presentation............NOT!! STOKE CITY: Some people like to advertise they are potters- I wouldnt . This logo is so forgettable I had to have another window open with it on so I wouldnt forget what I was describing. TOTTENHAM: Surrealism goes wrong when you see a bird on a ball. As I magnified the image I could clearly see the bird has done it business on the ball and they need to clean it. MAN UNITED: In red and puke yellow- every fashion designer's nightmare combination. Armani is suing them for bad taste and is expected to win too. The devil symbolizes Ferguson and the 2 balls on each side are added to make up for those their fans don't have. PORTSMOUTH: They thought that noone would notice that someone stole the design of the Turkish flag and changed the color to blue but I did..... tsk tsk tsk WOLVES: With a crest like this they should be playing American football. That might give them a chance to win something in their lifetime BURNLEY: Why would one admire Aston Villa's crest and wanna pay tribute to it with a variation on its theme is beyond me. WIGAN: They care for the environment but not much about football. That explains the 9-1. BIRMINGHAM CITY: Where a football is the same size as the globe and you can roll both in a piece of a toilet paper... Are you having a laugh yet? FULHAM: Big in your face letters in a minimalist background that says: "if you cant remember our club for any major accomplishment can you at least remember our initials please?" HULL CITY: They hired a professional painter to paint a realistic looking tiger on - I'll give them that. But they should have a real tiger unleashed on the sideline as a maskot too. I'd like to see them playing against United then. BLACKBURN: ..Or as I like to call it the "gay crest". Red roses, latin poetry, art... do I need to say more? BOLTON: Someone must have told them that the crest would appear only on balloons.. EVERTON: "Nil Satis Nisi Optimum" means " we're the shame of Merseyside" in greek. I dont know why noone told them that..?? SUNDERLAND: When you think of the most predictable, old fashioned, boring crest think of Sunderland's. It could be the logo for a shoe company, a neo-nazi band, a real estate office, and even an upscale hotel toilet paper brand. MAN CITY: Their crest HAD to look scary, cause they are not loool CHELSEA: I dont have a particular problem with traditional Russian design. LIVERPOOL: The mythical creature Liverbird comes to life in this delicate yet powerful design that harmoniously combines colors and shapes to an oasis for the eyes. Established in 1892, the club's long history is highlighted along with the all-inspiring, universally loved words: YNWA ....Bravo!!!!! moreResolved Question: Why didn't undertaker show up at Smackdown at Freedom Hall Jan. 5 when he was advertised to?

It's about Agatha Christie's The Secret Adversary. This is just my rough draft, so there's still a bunch of work to do on it. Sorry it's kinda long. The shortest the essay was required to be was 5 paragraphs, but it was hard for me to keep it that short. Oh, and assume I indented correctly, because I can't show indentations on here. :) The Secret Adversary is a book about mystery, excitement, and suspense. It theme is a common one: good versus evil. The story is set in 1919, in London and other places throughout England. The main characters of the story are Tommy Beresford and Prudence “Tuppence” Cowley, two good friends who are willing to do anything for money. All of their adventures start when they decide to become adventurers and “Do anything, go anywhere—if pay is good” (Christie 10). A Mr. Whittington overheard their conversation and asked Tuppence if she would like to work for him. Her job would simply be to go to Paris, but she is rejected after giving her name as Jane Finn, the first name that came to her mind. She unknowingly said the name that Tommy overheard earlier. Mr. Whittington becomes suspicious of her, believing she knows something and is trying to blackmail him. She leaves his office with money paid to her so she would keep quiet. This strange event causes Tommy and Tuppence to wonder about Jane Finn. When advertising in the newspaper for information about her, they got two replies. They learned from these people, Mr. Carter, a leading figure in a British intelligence agency, and Julius Hersheimmer, an American and Jane’s cousin, that Jane Finn was a passenger on the RMS Lusitania when it sank in 1915. An American man, knowing he may not survive, and women and children were put into lifeboats first, entrusted her with a secret draft treaty, and asked her to take it to the American embassy in London. After that, Jane and the treaty had disappeared. No one knew where she was, and now, publication of the treaty's contents would compromise the current British government, possibly leading to a bolshevik coup. Tommy and Tuppence agreed to work for Mr. Carter to try to find her, and stop the group from finding it, especially their leader, who goes by Mr. Brown, but no one in the group knows his real identity. The only clue they have to go one is the name Rita, who Mr. Whittington mentioned during his meeting with Tuppence. They eventually find her flat, and see Mr. Whittington walking out of it with another man. Tuppence convinces Tommy to follow them. Soon they enter a house, and Tommy secretly follows. He sees a group of people having a meeting, and tries to listen in. He begins to hear them talking, when someone hit him over the head. While this is happening to Tommy, Tuppence was hired by Rita, or Mrs. Vandemeyer, as a maid, because she was sure she was part of the group. A man came over to Mrs. Vandemeyer’s house as company, and Tuppence learned his name to be Sir James Peel Edgerton, K.C. As he left, he seemed to warn Tuppence about Mrs. Vandemeyer. Tuppence is confused by this, so the next day, which she had off, she met up with Julius and they went to Sir James’ house. They tell him everything, and also about Tommy’s disappearance. Sir James suggests he use his friendship with Mrs. Vandemeyer to obtain information about Tommy’s whereabouts. He plans to visit her that evening. When Tuppence came home early, she found her mistress packing to go into hiding. Tuppence tries to stall her, but Mrs. Vandemeyer has already found out about her. As they begin to talk, Tuppence gets Mrs. Vandemeyer to promise to give them information regarding Jane Finn and Mr. Brown for a large amount of money, offered by Julius. Upon the arrival of Julius and Sir James, however, Mrs. Vandemeyer faints and dies soon after due to poisoning. After talking to a doctor who Mrs. Vandemeyer knew, the three discover Jane Finn was admitted to his nursing home under the name Janet Vandemeyer, and that she had amnesia. It seems they have reached a dead end, so Sir James announces that he is going to go on a vacation. He makes hints that he will work on the case still, and that Tuppence shouldn’t trust Julius. In the meantime, Tommy was captured and imprisoned, and he was served food by a young woman named Annette. They planned to kill him, but luckily for him Annette helped arrange his escape, but when he left, she ran back into the house. When he found Julius, they discovered Tuppence left after receiving a telegram from Tommy, which they determined to have been sent to get rid of Tuppence. They soon hear from Sir James, who found Jane Finn, who has recovered her memory after an accident. They get directions to where she said she hid the package, only to find a note from Mr. Brown when they get there, which meant he had found the papers before them. Feeling defeated, they went back to where they were sta moreResolved Question: Help with Restaurant Ad?
I have to do a project advertising a restaurant with a unique theme. I like the idea of "Around the World", but I'm not sure how I can design it. Any ideas? moreResolved Question: I'm designing video game, who has some ideas and suggestions?
As just said, I am currently programming a video game of my own. As a story, you have entered a dance contest and lost badly. You do not know why but you suspect that you lost your groove. Now, to find out what your groove is, you will have to travel from town to town to see what's best for you. Each town has it's own music genre and theme. Here's what I have so far: Classical, Blues, Country, Oldies, Rock, Rap/HipHop, Metal, Techno, Pop, Disco, 80s I need to know if I should group any of these together? Should I split Rap and Hip Hop as to seperate genres? Should I remove the 80s "genre" because it realy isn't a genre... but I'm making the game for my sister... and she loves 80s music. And are there any genres I'm leaving out (that are actualy worth putting in the game)? Oh, and I forgot to say, it's a platform game. I am using XPivot program to make story clips (by importing sprites, I am not using stick people, for those who are familiar with pivot). I am including cheats in the game. Maybe I will have hidden worlds that can be unlocked by a code.. or something. So if anyone wants to help out, I can (if you want) put you in the credits of my game when it's finished. Please list anything that could help me. Maybe give me some cheat ideas or different genres and basicaly anything that could make this game easier to make. When the game is finished, I will probably advertise it on youtube or something. I am almost positive that I will make it freeware. Ok, Thanks!!!!Neil G had a good idea... but then I looked up all the genres and subgenres... Oh my gosh... so many... I'm talking hundreds... their is no way I could possibly get more than 100 genres of music into my game! So I don't think I could do that. Overall, I plan to have AT LEAST 10 worlds in the game, and NO MORE THAN 15 worlds. Each world will have... probably... 3 levels each. My original plan was to make each world have a different genre. Each level have a different song that has the corresponds. Gosh, I just keep rambling on! I'm gonna shut up now and listen to what you guys have to say!Ok, Here's my new world list: Blues Classical Country Dance Heavy Metal / Hard Rock Techno Pop Progressive / Oldies Rap R&B / Soul Rock moreResolved Question: New kids classical music CD?

I'm on the yearbook staff at my school, and we need to sell more books. We need funny, comical advertising ideas to get the students attention....ANY IDEAS???? our theme this year is "Facebook-What's your status?" so anything that would go with that also, but it doesnt have to. moreResolved Question: Copyright VS. Trademark?
I coordinate community events for film & animation. I recently created an unusual film-theme party - it has a logo, marketing materials, a pretty good event "hook", and mailing list of locals that are eager to attend more of these events. I'm a little annoyed because a company in another state saw my party advertised online and held the SAME EXACT kind of party - they took my flyer, photoshopped their logo over mine, and changed the location and date! When I contacted them to stop, they said "they talked to the venue and they said it would probably be fine." I said, "It is certainly not 'fine' - I am the creator of this franchise, so the 'permission' was from someone with no authority." They responded with "You can't copyright party ideas, but to be fair, since you inspired us, you can send us some of your marketing materials so we can advertise your other products for you so you can help build your organization's mailing list." While I appreciate the offer to sell my other product to folks at that party 1.) I'm pretty insulted. Someone just ripped off my artwork, my marketing copy & strategies and is trying to make me feel like they did me a favor. 2.) I would have a tough time proving that they are distributing my flyers/information. Once it got to a certain size, I was planning on franchising this party/festival - charging venues a small fee to license the name or take a percentage of the bar, in exchange for my promotion services to my robust mailing list. But how can I stop bars or jerk-faces from just taking the idea and not giving me a dime? It's not worth suing over because we're probably talking about peanuts here - again, I run charitable community events. Even worse, they are now asking me to contact MY followers on Facebook/Twitter to advertise "their" future parties because "I could use the exposure to market to people in another state and sell my other products to them." That just rubs me the wrong way. If I trademarked the name, could I issue a cease and decist, or do I have enough leverage with my copyright/the fact that I held these types of parties first. How can I scare people to keep them from stealing from me? I have other franchised theme party ideas, but I'm not telling ANYONE until I figure this out. I guess this is the whole "you can can't register banana bread but you claim your own receipe" situation. moreResolved Question: All you advertising experts out there help!!?
Ok slightly random question… I’m writing a paper on advertising and had this ad in mind that I saw roughly in 2007 in the U.K. The commercial is set at a fancy nightclub. A girl see he ex-boyfriend again with a new girl. The new girlfriend pours her drink on the ex-girl friend… though her dress does not get wet. Magically her dress transforms into a shield with loads of special effects… does anyone know which ad I am talking about?? The ex-girl friend is the hero of the ad. Basically the woman is possibly invincible… and a possible theme of this ad might be revenge… Please let me know whatever comes to your mind! I’ll try and youtube it! Thank you SO SO much! :) moreResolved Question: Can you still remember the words to the pokemon theme song?

Our local Best Buy is running a photo contest. Participants can submit up to 3 photos. My friend, being the nosy little shit he is, was looking at my 3 submissions and found a picture of a fish and said "Oh, don't submit this one, they're probably looking for more family-oriented pictures." So I said "Uhh... it's just a generic photo contest, what makes you assume they're looking for a specific theme that they didn't mention?" And he said "Well, they're probably gonna use it for advertising or something." He's not a photographer and there's nothing even remotely inappropriate or "off" about the fish picture, but do you think he's right? Or is he just spouting stupid bullshit that makes no sense? Please could someone summarise these paragraphs to make it shorter. I will make it a best answer and i will answer your questions back to the fullest of my ability?PLEASE!! But Staggs may have made his most important statement about the company without saying a word, observers say. He sold 75,000 Disney shares for $1.9 million, or about $25.38 per share on average. The insider sales were the first at the company since September, when Staggs sold $2.6 million in shares through a selling plan he had adopted. Staggs now holds about 200,000 shares, and options for about 1.8 million shares. Together these holdings represent less than 1% of Disney's outstanding shares. Staggs' sales have tended to encounter falls in Disney's stock price, according to Thomson Reuters. The last 12 times Staggs has sold, shares have fallen about 8% in the following six months. Thomson rates Disney a three out of 10 in regards to insider opinion (measured by buying and selling), with 10 being the most obstinate. Jason Raznick, vice president at StreetInsider.com, says Staggs' sale is bad news for the company's stock. "I would not want to be a buyer of Disney when the CFO is selling such a large percentage of his holdings," Raznick wrote in an e-mailed response to questions. "If investors have enjoyed the recent run in Disney, I'd join the CFO and take some of my position off." Disney stock increased 12% after the company released better-than-expected second-quarter earnings after the market closed. ESPN helped support the company despite a difficult environment for advertising. The company's cable programming accounted for 75% of operating income, despite accounting for only 27% of revenue, according to Wunderlich Securities analysts who upgraded the company to Hold from Sell after the announcement. But the company has suffered from poor showings at the box office and weak DVD sales. And it had to offer large discounts to entice tourists to its theme parks, though attendance at the parks was low, per-capita spending was down 6% from the year before. Staggs has worked his way up the ranks at Disney since joining as a manager of strategic planning in 1990. He worked on the company's gain of Pixar and ABC and has focused on cutting costs as the economy has soured. "A number of them represent temporary measures in response to the downturn, but many of them are structural and, therefore, more permanent changes to our cost base," he said. Staggs signed a new contract in 2008 that included an "inducement" of 250,000 restricted stock units that vest in 2013. He earned $9.2 million in total compensation for 2008, including a $4.1 million bonus. One company benefit offered to Staggs and two other top executives has upset some shareholders. Disney has a Family Income Assurance Plan that entitles family members of executives who die to three years' worth of the executive's salary (though the family would get 75% and 50%, respectively, in the second and third year). Detractors call the plan a "golden coffin" -- a representative of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees told shareholders at the company's annual meeting in March that "it's time to drive the nail into Disney's golden coffin." more
