Open Question: Why is Tobacco the hot new thing to hate?

If you don't smoke, that is fine with me. But why should you care If I smoke? It's my life. Not yours, thats already why you're not smoking. I just seen a anti smoking commercial presenting the idea of a "Broken Glass Popsicle factory" where they talk about how, we realize it's unsafe to eat, but the only way to get better is to stop eating it. and how "What if all big companies advertised food like the Big Tobacco Companies." So, after you "health conscious" people cried and whined to get the safety warning on the boxes, now your whining because of the warning you got put on there. and you're only whining about that because there is nothing left to whine about. You can't smoke anywhere. Which is weird, because I thought I lived in America? It's a silly idea, but I say us smokers should rise and fight for our rights. Otherwise they will just keep taking more away from us.Oh, and many buildings have "smoking rooms" where they are fully ventilated and filtered for cigarette smoke. Why are we not allowed to smoke in there anymore. There is no reason for a non smoker to even be in that room. And if you are in there, you can't be complaining about it, you're in the fucking smoking room. more

Voting Question: Can Albury-Wodonga TV channels show NSW and Vic govt. advertising?

Albury and Wodonga are located next to the Murray River - the former in New South Wales and the latter in Victoria. They share a unified regional television market, so do you think commercial channels broadcast advertising from Governments of New South Wales and Victoria such as road safety and social services? more

Voting Question: Why are the Raid anti-mosquito "Plug-Ins" available in Colombia but not in the US?

While living in Colombia I found Raid anti-mosquito plug-in products quite effective. They had one that plugged into any wall plug and heated up an oil, the other heated up a small strip. These heated substances either repelled or killed mosquitoes. All I know is that they were vital to a good nights rest in Colombia. I've returned to the US and can't find them in stores or even online! I'm baffled. Did they not pass some safety test for the US? Are they just not rolled out here yet? Note: these are not the products you see advertised here for outdoor use. They were to be used inside the house like a Glade plug-in but instead of a scent they dealt with mosquitoes. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: middleclassman << Best Pro-Liberal Story ever.?

We don`t pretend we get things done becasue we are not against everything. Just ask Joe the conservative. Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a conributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noon time and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like. I have." _____________________________________ This story was provided by user "middleclassman". more

Resolved Question: I want facebook baned , do you agree?

I want facebook band, do you agree? Facebook needs to be band. POLICE want Facebook to ban under-18s from setting up tribute websites after launching the first prosecution of its kind of a Brisbane man accused of posting pornography on online memorials to murdered children. Disability pensioner Bradley Paul Hampson, 29, faces up to 10 years' jail if convicted of offences relating to the defacement of Facebook memorials for Trinity Bates, 8, and Elliot Fletcher, 12, who died in separate incidents in Queensland earlier this year. The Australian Federal Police are now negotiating with the social networking giant to prevent future acts of cyber-vandalism by so-called internet "trolls", who post offensive material to provoke outrage. Detective Superintendent Peter Crawford, of the Child Safety and Sexual Crimes Group of Queensland police, said adults should be required to act as administrators of memorials so they could be held liable for monitoring content. The AFP has, in an effort to improve accountability, raised with Facebook the possibility of banning under-18s from setting up such sites. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. .End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. Superintendent Crawford said website administrators - and not just Facebook - needed to act quickly to remove offensive material. "I think the trolling issue will continue to be a problem in the future," he said. "We are really keen to see people who administer those sites take responsibility to ensure that material posted is of an appropriate standard." Superintendent Crawford revealed that Queensland police had been forced to liaise with Facebook executives in San Francisco. While the organisation has a well-staffed advertising office in Australia, its local representatives insist they are not responsible for content. "We have to make inquiries overseas for all our Facebook inquiries," he said. Superintendent Crawford said the fact that children and teenagers sometimes set up tribute pages "presents some problems". "These are the issues we're endeavouring to discuss with Facebook," he said. "I would rather be using (police) resources to target actual sexual offences that are being committed today, than chasing down trolls." Mr Hampson, 29, of Tarragindi, was remanded in custody after appearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday on five charges relating to possessing and distributing child exploitation material. Magistrate Leanne O'Shea refused bail. The police prosecutor, Sergeant Fiona Pedersen, told the court that police had raided Mr Hampson's home early yesterday and found pornographic images on his computer. "He would appear to have some morbid fascination with deceased children and has expressed fantasies in those regards," she said. Mr Hampson's legal aid lawyer, Katia Vandenbroucke, told the court her client had been diagnosed with autism. Facebook said yesterday it had co-operated fully with the police. 5 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. more

Resolved Question: Recurring places in dreams? Do you have any and what do they mean to you?

I have some "safety nets" in my dreams sometimes, when I can't wake myself up and the dream takes a bad turn. The most common one to show up when someone is chasing me and I can't escape is this lakefront I used to play at as a kid. The stones are all black and round and smooth, and beyond them is grass. The water is always calm, and there's a willow to one side, and a set of young birches to the other. Once I get there, I know I'm safe. I have a "restart" button whenever I go into a library. I stop whatever dream I'm having and start over with a new one. And the latest one is an ice cream shop, which I always use the same route to get to. Usually someone bad is trying to find me, so I start running from my home street, jump a red wooden fence that has a ravine on the other side (when someone is looking over they'd only see brambles, and not the pathway right below the fence) which cuts down and around a few corners until the place evens out at an ice cream shop. I go in, and I learn some skill or trade, and usually live there for a few weeks/months/years. Even though the sign advertises ice cream, the shop itself is always different. Last night it was a puzzle and craft store, and I learned how to make ceramic figures that looked alive. Once I mastered it, I was free to go and I could defeat whatever was chasing me. I was wondering... do any of you have these? And if so, what are they? more

Resolved Question: Rate this 1 - 10, 10 being so funny tears come out?

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....?? WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two triple-a batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arch of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.?? AWESOME!!!? Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.?? Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?! !?? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong??? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and taser in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.? ? All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, "no possible way!"?? What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best...? ? I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, "don't do it master," reasoning that a one- second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one-second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button,?and?? HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!!?? I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner , then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs? The cat was standing over me making meowing sounds I had never heard before, licking my face, undoubtedly thinking to herself, "Do it again, stupid, do it again!"?? Note: If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a taser, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three-second burst would be considered conservative?? SON-OF-A-... That hurt like **% !!! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they get up there??? My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I'm still looking for my testicles! I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!! Still in shock!! P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!? "If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid." more

Voting Question: how can i reword this?

my daughter is driving while texting i have found these notes on the internet but i to make it so she understand im gonna have to reword this on i need help Texting on a cell phone is even more dangerous than talking. A study by Virginia Tech found that texting while driving on the highway increases the risk of having an accident twenty-three times. On average, a text message distracts a driver for about five seconds, which on a highway means about one-hundred yards. Off the highway, the University of Utah found that texting increases the risk eight times. 56% of teenagers admit to talking on their cell phones behind the wheel, while 13% admit to texting while driving. (Note: Because this information was given voluntarily by teens, actual cell phone use numbers may be much higher.) 48% of young Americans from 12-17 say they've been in a car while the driver was texting. 52% of 16- and 17-year-old teen drivers confess to making and answering cell phone calls on the road. 34% admit to text messaging while driving. In 2007, driver distractions, such as using a cell phone or text messaging, contributed to nearly 1,000 crashes involving 16- and 17-year-old drivers. Over 60% of American teens admit to risky driving, and nearly half of those that admit to risky driving also admit to text messaging behind the wheel. Each year, 21% of fatal car crashes involving teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 were the result of cell phone usage. This result has been expected to grow as much as 4% every year. Almost 50% of all drivers between the ages of 18 and 24 are texting while driving. Over one-third of all young drivers, ages 24 and under, are texting on the road. Teens say that texting is their number one driver distraction. 'Texting' while driving is the act of composing, sending, or reading text messages, email, or making other similar use of the internet on a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, such as an automobile, truck, or train. The practice has been viewed by many people and authorities as dangerous. It has also been ruled as the cause of some motor vehicle accidents, and in some places has been outlawed or restricted people have to stop. Texting while driving leads to increased distraction behind the wheel. In 2006, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group conducted a survey with more than 900 teens from over 26 high schools nationwide. The results showed that 37% of students found texting to be "very" or "extremely" distracting. A study by the AAA discovered that 46% of teens admitted to being distracted behind the wheel due to texting. One example of distraction behind the wheel is the 2008 Chatsworth train collision which killed 25 passengers. The subsequent investigation revealed that the engineer had sent 45 text messages while operating the train. A 2009 experiment with Car and Driver magazine editor Eddie Alterman that took place at a deserted air strip showed that texting while driving had a greater impact on safety than driving drunk. While legally drunk, Alterman's stopping distance from 70 mph increased by 4 feet; by contrast, reading an e-mail added 36 feet, and sending a text added 70 feet.[1] In the UK in 2009 Gwent Police worked with film maker Peter Watkins-Hughes and production company Zipline Creative to create the graphic short film "Cow", as part of a campaign to stop texting while driving.[2] The film earned honors in the Advertising Age's weekly Creativity Top 5 videos [3] and became an overnight worldwide internet hit after being shown on the American news program The Today Show.[4] On August 29, 2007, Danny Oates was killed by a young driver of a car, allegedly texting while driving. The defense had argued that driver Jeffrey Woods had possibly suffered a seizure during the time of the accident. [10] On January 3, 2008, Heather Leigh Hurd was killed by a truck driver who allegedly was texting while driving. Her father Russell Hurd has been actively supporting a law in various U.S. states called Heather's Law that would prohibit texting while driving. [11] The 2008 Chatsworth train collision, which killed 25 people, and which occurred on September 12, 2008, was blamed on the operator sending text messages while operating the train.[12] In 2009, a crash on the MBTA Green Line of the Boston area was blamed on a driver who was texting. This occurred nearly a year after the Newton, Massachusetts rail accident, which occurred on May 28, 2008, and was blamed on the operator using a cell phone while operating the train. A day after talk show queen Oprah Winfrey focused on the dangers of texting while driving, two members of the Georgia House of Representatives introduced bills that would ban the practice. “Don’t tempt fate,” said Rep. Amos Amerson (R-Dahlonega), quoting Winfrey. “That text or call can wait.” Amerson and Rep. Allen Peake (R-Bibb County) introduced similar bills that will likely me more

I am appalled and very upset that neither mim or alice in chains is offering anything to compensate for the event's cancellation. The tickets purchased clearly state rain or shine, well it was raining and every new's channel was broadcasting weather event's all day long and yet you continued to sell tickets, and i believe with the intention's of cancelling anyway. I suspect wrongdoing on your part, you are trying to use 'public safety' as a scape goat and mim's motives are obvious. I personally purchased 8 tickets at 37.00 each just to see alice in chain's, why were they not rescheduled at another location? I called your office this morning and spoke to a mim representative who stated that you weren't going to do anything about this at all, you mean you are not going to let saturday's one day passes work sunday to ease the burden on the thousands of people who were affected by the ticket gouging. We stand in the mud and rain for hours in spite of all weather warning's, you continued to sell tickets. I will personally and relentlessly see to it that this is made right for the people who were scammed. Rain or shine mean's that the festivities will take place regardless of weather condition's. I realize that the 'fine print' on the ticket's states no refund's but the fact remain's that you continued to sell ticket's to the event even with every memphis news channel's warning's, that clearly show's ill intention's on your behalf. I am personally out of pocket about 600.00 dollars and i am very unhappy about it. Why couldn't you open the gates and hour earlier or close an hour later today and make alice in chain's play, i checked their schedule and it's clear. I am personally considering spearheading a class action lawsuit against mim and it's organizer's. If i advertised that say for instance ' the beatles' were playing at my local civic center and i sold thousands of people ticket's and the beatles didn't play or even offer a reschedule, i wouldn't be receiving letters such as this that i am writing because my moral's wouldn't allow it. You have the ability and control to make this right, it's your choice. While you are tallying ticket sales and alice in chains is at the peabody sipping margarita's i am trying to figure out how you think you are going to get away with this. I will be contacting every memphis new's affiliate monday morning and something will be done for the people.UPDATE!! as of 5/5/10 i have heard nothing back from anyone i have emailed, i guess we are all just s*** out of luck. more

Resolved Question: Have you met Joe Republican?

The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor. It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Resolved Question: Dilemma with Rehabilitating a stray cat - Please Help?

I live in a big city in India, in an apartment complex on the 4th floor. About 8 months ago I noticed a 1 year old stray cat in my apartment complex compound. I "adopted" him and primarily had an inside-outside arrangement for the cat. While downstairs, the cat usually hung out on the neighbor's yard OR on our building compound wall. Because people in the apartment below have a pet dog who often lounges within the compound, the cat is terrified about taking the stairs to my home on his own. So I would go downstairs myself to get him if I spotted him from my balcony. I would let him out every evening for potty/ fresh air and get him back a few hours later if I saw him. I also made sure he was vaccinated. Overall, this inside-outside cat arrangement worked until mating season started a cpl of months ago. Since then his visits have become infrequent and he would disappear for 4-5 days at a time. He hung out with the other alley cats in the street. I felt responsible for him and would worry about his health and whereabouts. So I eventually set up a litter-box for him at home so that I would not have to roam the streets looking for him and also to make sure he was safe always. But he often gets restless and creates a noisy racket at home asking to be let out in the evenings. The constant meowing in the evenings and nights, makes it impossible for me to focus on work (i work from home) or even sleep at night. One day I gave up and let him out thinking i'd get him back later. He vanished and after a huge search effort I found him 5 days later very weak, covered in scabs, sores and some injuries. The vet said he'd gotten a skin infection. I really didn't want to be one of those people who abandons a pet once it catches a disease. So I've been caring for him at home for the past week. But as he gets stronger, he's back to his meowing to be let out. This cycle is very disruptive to my work, my sleep cycle, even my social life as I feel guilty about leaving a yowling cat alone at home. He probably misses being outside and hates being alone at home. My friends suggest that I quit taking so much trouble and just let him go to survive by himself. I love this cat and want to do the right thing that will keep him and me at peace. Some options I'm considering are : 1. Get cat neutered, and if this stops his restlessness and wandering, keep him indoors. 2. Get cat neutered and let him go. I'm hoping that a fixed cat will be less prone to catching diseases from other cats (less fighting and socialising) 3. Do nothing and let the cat go as he is (un-neutered). Hopefully he will survive as he did before I found him 4. Get cat neutered and advertise for his adoption. Slim chance with adoption in India though. If no adopters found, let him go. Any other ideas ? Even by letting him go, I know I can keep an eye on him once-in-a-while when he hangs out in my neighbor's yard. Only that I cannot ensure his health and safety like before. But the option of letting him go makes me feel terribly guilty. I feel it will be irresponsible on my part and I'd be a bad pet-parent by not keeping him safe indoors. But at this stage in my life despite my best intentions to rehabilitate a stray, I am simply unable to cope with the demands of raising a pet. What is the best thing to do in this situation ? Please advise. Open to all suggestions.I sincerely appreciate your kindness in responding. Thank you : Wolfzie, Willow, QueenJeanArlene, Delboy, RustyJo, T and Sha. I am taking him tomorrow for neutering. Just a small question: Will neutering disable his prey and hunting instincts that he will need at some time ? Will he able to survive outside after being neutered. Again, thank you. I am touched that you have taken the time. more

Resolved Question: nightmare landlord, worse situation, what are my rights and what can i do?

I've never used this before and am fast running out of options, I am in a bit of a predicament with my landlord. firstly I live in what can be described as a shared home thereby all the rooms are rented out, so currently there have been 5 people living in a 4 bedroom home and landlord lives at the rear of property in the garage and I rent what was the front room. there has been a list of problems with the landlord that has escalated in recent weeks. firstly I moved in February 2009 , no tenancy agreement was signed or offered to me to sign. I did pay a deposit and rent has been payed on time every month . during my tenancy I feel that I have looked after the place, been respectful to all the housemates and generally kept my part of the bargain. from my landlords side I do not feel that this has been done and facilities have gone downhill in a big way. originally we had use if a garage (until the landlord moved into it) had control over the central heating had a washer dryer combo (downgraded to just a washer) my room being the front room had an electric fire in there that the landlord entered without my consent and disconnected, the garden has turned into more of a dump the singular bathroom has had a lock put on the window so this cannot be opened and now there is damp in there these are the main issues amongst others. recently an electronic thermostat was installed so only e had control over the heating and no matter if we complained it was too cold there was no negotiations, this came to a head when last month was turned off altogether with the landlord claiming it was summer. hot water has gone off 4 times as well - allegedly this was other housemates however I am aware he was trying to time when it came on and when it didn’t so I have been unable to have a proper wash on these occasions. I am aware as well that he is obligated to provide us with 24 hour heating and hot water. Threats were made about taking a baseball bat to my head when I couldn't lock the house on one occasion because I had had my keys stolen as we. he has made an allegation that I have damaged the front door total lies with no evidence at all to support this claim. someone from the council has been round recently to inspect the premises and whilst it was deemed that there was no HMO licence needed certain safety improvements where needed to make the property compliable to be rented these included non working fire alarms, wrong type of doors no fire blanket and no locks on the doors to keep our stuff safe amongst others , I have not seen the report but this is what I have been told. since this visit we have all be given eviction notices and now the rooms are being re-advertised. what rights do I have to withhold my rent (or part of it at least) that is due? I have heard about tenants suing landlord as well and am prepared to explore this as well if this s a possibility can anyone advise on this as well? I am caught between a massive rock and a very hard place. he is talking about getting the police round to attend whilst he collects my rent if I do pay it I will not be able to afford to re-house myself at all and I am sure I will not see my deposit back despite there being no reason to withhold it. I feel I must add again that there is no paperwork at all to state any tenancy agreement, deposit payed when rent is due or the amount and for what period, I have also never seen any receipts for payments made and landlord insisted that that payments were made in cash only. I also believe that he is not paying taxes either for the property and possibly claiming benefits as well will be reporting him appropriate authority. Please can someone help in this matter I really don’t know where to turn and my council are being their typical unhelpful selves. I would be extremely grateful for any helpful responses in this matter. Thanks in advance. Thanks to most who have replied so far. Just to clear up I am not trying to fight this and I want to move to a new place. What I am paying is not cheap rent either. I only rent a room so that is all was agreed to cover, all bills are included. landlord originally lived in the house in the master bedroom before deciding he could make more money by moving into the separate garage at the rear and renting out his room, My biggest problem is with paying rent that is now due. If I pay it I cannot get a new place yet I don't want to run the risk of a CCJ. As people have picked up on there is no paper trail, other than my bank statement showing the money I have regally taken out. Nothing states whether rent is paid in advance or lieu or for what period. He has asked the police to attend whilst he collects the rent next week Am I within my rights not to pay? Or can I say I have already paid? Surely it’s my word vs. his And my bank statement that shows this was withdrawn 4 days ago more

Resolved Question: I have been unfairly dismissed from my employment?

I left my previous job to work for an employer who advertised mum friendly hours and my previous job was not working around my children. I worked for said new company for 1 month when my employer sacked me! I had no warning of this and it was like a casual chat! He sat me down and told me that he needed more reliable staff and that me taking time off to look after my sick child was not reliable enough! Also he added at the end of this that I had not cleaned three rooms properly i.e. the toilets where still dirty!!!! This was complete rubbish as I take great pride in my work and have been doing so for the past 11yrs! I myself think this was just said so I would not think he was sacking me for having time off for my son. Also before I started work there, in my interview with the manager he told me that he would be employing 6 staff members so if anyone had time off we would be covered. Also he stated that the pay would be £6 per hour but he was thinking about applying a room rate instead but was going to wait until we all started so we could discuss it. This never happened because when I did start work there I was told that we are not getting an hourly rate we are being paid per room! There was also no teams of employment given, or job description. Also we had not been shown what and where to go in case of a fire. And there was no COSHH information with the chemicals and we were not shown how to use them. My issue with cleaning the toilets when unheard as he expected us to carry around dirty toilet brushes in and out of the guest rooms. These brushes did not come in a container they were just put in the boxes we carried around from room to room! I have spoken to citizen’s advice and have been told that I can take out a grievance against my employer. I have also been told to contact the local environment officer as he has breached his terms of licence in regards to health and safety and fire regulations. Basically I would like some help in writing a good grievance letter. I could really do with a template to get me started. Thanks Emma** I have spoken to citizen’s advice and I can take up a grievance in regards to discrimination and the face that he has breached his health and safety requirements. He did not show ANY of us were the fire exits are or what to do in case of a fire! Also he did NOT have any COSHH information for any of the chemicals we had to use. more

Resolved Question: Where could my dragon go while I'm on holiday?

Personally I feel that dragons are discriminated against in many areas. Firstly I'm going on holiday over the Easter break to a lovely beach house fully equip with a swimming pool, BBQ, and many other lovely things that I plan to enjoy. Sadly pets are not allowed. I'd seen cattery's advertised in my local paper so I thought that would be the first place to check for a dragon sitter. After ringing around over 22 different cattery's/kennels/aviary's I found that none of them what so ever would take my fire-breathing dragon, Dead Meat! I was furious as this is true discrimination! Where is my dragon suppose to go? Does anyone here know of any dragonrys? I can't just leave him at home alone! If anyone is interested in looking after my dragon o knows anyone who would then the jobs would be as follows... Asking neighbous around for tea once a day for Dead Meat to eat as dinner, watching him when the Easter Bunny comes and NOT allowing him any nibbles, allowing him ONE child on Easter Sunday as a special treat. It would also be great if the person had a fire safety citificate as Dead Meat can get dangerous when it comes to new people...email me with any queries... Thanks! more

A dog has been seens wandering the streets of Maerdy in Mid-glamorgan south wales for the last 3 or 4 weeks and tongiht my partner and I managed to bring him home with us fearing for his safety. He appears to be quite a young dog, maybe not even fully out of puppy stage yet but is a little underweight although not dangerously and until we brought him he was VERY very wary of us. Having had him home with us for a few hours now he's pretty playful and seems friendly enough and he's now settled down on a quilt at the end of our bed sleeping. I've taken him out for a walk twice tonight but one thing concerns me, I've bought him tins of winalot but he doesn't seem at all interested in eating it. However I'm not overly concerned about him but I will be taking him somewhere for a check up make sure he's ok. Anyway just on the off chance anyone in the area happens to see this and has lost their dog, wants to contact me with a good description of the dog, I will gladly hand him back but as I hope you will understand I will have to be convinced he belongs to you before I let him go. Imagine you were the owner and I mistakenly gave him to someone else, I know I wouldn't like that to my dog. Failing this, I will endeavour to find a loving home for him by means of advertising that IU have a dog in need of re-homing. Again before I let him to a new owner, I will want to visit the prospective owners property and be confident that SPOT as I've now called him will be adequately looked after and I will want to keep in touch to see how he's getting on. I don't mean to be rude but as a passionate animal lover with rabbits, guinea pig, hamster and dog of my own, I will never forgive myself for letting this dog go to end up being mis-treated or found abandoned wandering the streets again. he's a lovely dog, faily obedient too considering he's only been a few hours and I'm sorely tempted to keep him myself but I want the original owner to have the oppertunity of having him back and to be honest although I would work it out somehow, can't really afford to take on any more animals at this stage. I hope this shot in the dark leads to Spots safe return to hopefully as loving a home as I would provide if I kept him. Please contact me via email at steve12101@live.co.uk as I hardly use the email address registered to this answers account. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Steve.I have also contacted dogs trust and made them aware by leaving an answerphone that I found Spot and that I'd like them to contact me so that if I don't find THE owner or a new one that they will take the dog and re-home him for me. So within a week or so that's where he'll be if I haven't re-homed him myself and the center I contacted was in Bridgend.I have contacted dogs trust a charity run here in great britain which my family give donations to. They are all about rescuing and re-homing dogs. Mainly just let them know that I found the dog and have asked if any of them could come check him out for me. Although I would prefer to find the owner or to re-home him myself before I let him go to shelter. I'll at least have a go and if I still have him in a week then I'll call them to collect him. It's a shame, I've grown quite attached to him already and don't wanna let him go really but can't keep him. Already arranged before finding this one to have a staffordshire terrier when ready to leave it's mother on the 9th April. Can't afford 2 dogs. :( more

Resolved Question: Toyota Levin Importation?

I was wondering about the importation of Toyota Corolla-Levin AE-86's. I know that cars like Nissan Silvia's and Nissan Skylines are restricted and hard to come by because they never passed tests for safety among other things. But since the "Corolla" has passed government tests for the models released in the United States, is it possible to import a right hand drive Levin into the United States without confiscation? I've seen plenty of sites advertising importation of Corolla-Levin's and while the SITE may not be legit I just was wondering if you could import one successfully and have it approved and registered, along with insurance. And please, only people who know what they're talking about. more

Resolved Question: Sexual Harassment in the work place?

I fell I am being Sexually Harassed in my place of work. I am just naturally a nice social person and I am a receptionist at a front desk so it is in my job description to be nice. If people walked in no matter who they are if I ignored them I would get in trouble. We all rent the building that I am in and I work for the reality company on the main floor. Then downstairs is a financial advising company and upstairs is an advertising company but there is only one front door that leads directly to me. There is a man that works down stairs who when he walks in to go down stairs I say hi like I’m suppose to and then he takes the conversation further with how are you so on so forth. Like I said I am a social person but yesterday he took it to a new level that made me very uncomfortable. He was telling me how he is just recently divorced and he moved here to Oregon from southern California and how alone he is and stuff like that. I was kind of taken back and just was like oh I’m sorry. He was telling me how he has really pretty pictures of the beach from southern Cal and then he was just like, “give me your email address and I’ll send them to you” I know I should not have given it to him but I did and he sent me then with an IM of “hey sexy did you get the pics?” I emailed him back and said I am 17 and that was not appropriate. I made it very clear that it was not ok to say things like that. He is like my dad’s age and it is so gross. He sent me back a message that we should just be friends that I’m very friendly and nice and things like that. Nothing as inappropriate as “hey sexy” but I am still not comfortable with him emailing me and I want him to stop. I replied to that message and said we can be work colleagues. Even though I don’t even technically work with him our different companies just work in the same building. This situation is so complicated and I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to get in trouble for giving him my email but I wasn’t doing it thinking something like this was going to happen. He sent me more pictures today and I just didn’t respond even though he sent an attached message that says if I want to see more pictures of southern California he has more. I don’t even want to see him but I have no choice. I don’t know what to do. I know it was so dumb to give him my email and looking back now I wouldn’t do it but it would have been really awkward to how to figure out how to tell him no. I just don’t know. Can someone please help me? I can’t lose this job but I need to protect my image and my safety. more

Resolved Question: English Grammar Question?

Can anybody tell me if the segment below is understandable? Furthermore, have I used the word ‘whereas’ properly? Thank you very much. ------- The tenant can not see clearly out of this window. This is not only a safety hazard for the tenant who has obstructed visibility of the immediate outside environment but it is also an aesthetic issue whereas the tenant, who enjoys sitting in her kitchen, can no longer view the immediate outside area as a custom of quiet and comfortable enjoyment. This can be likened to the landlord placing a huge advertising banner right in front of the tenant’s window and obstructing her view. more

Resolved Question: I was involved in a motor vehicle accident with texting teens. HELP?!?

I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. The accident involved myself in my new car I had just bought several days prior and 4 young girls in the other car. The girl was driving a BMW and had (for no reason) was speeding, flew past me and cut me off without using a blinker. That had then placed me behind her once we came to a red light at a 4 way intersection. The turn signal appeared and she started to proceed forward and turn left into the inner lane. She was driving at approxiamately 10MPH. (I believe she was trying to make me upset.) Once I had gotten close to the road in which she and I were both turning on, I had went ahead and got into the right hand lane. (Outer lane)Once beside her I glanced over and couldn't help but notice she had been texting. (several girls were as well as the driver) I had sped up slightly and turned my blinker on to get into the left lane. I know I was atleast 2-3 cars lengths ahead of her when I switched lanes. (the right hand lane i was originally in was a "right only" lane, and I was proceeding forward) Once in front of the girl I believe she was trying to impress her friends or something and had sped up and proceeded to tail gate me for several seconds. She then whipped her car around into the right lane, lost control of her vehicle, started to fish tail and smacked into the passengers side of my car. My car had spun 1 or 2 times and I regained control, pulled over, turned my emergency lights on and ran to the car where the girls were. Once girl had gotten out and was (still) texting on her phone and freaking out. The authorities had came and put all the blame on me. Only one girl was injured but she was not wearing her seat belt and had been taken to the ER. All she had was a small cut to her forehead. But before I could get any information all the girls had left and the cops wouldn't tell me anything. I had asked several times for their information and they kept telling me "Just write your police report." They had refused to tell me anything and wrote me a citation for Willful and wanton disregard to public safety. Is there anyway I can justify that this wreck was not my fault? There were two cops up in my face and screaming at me and cursing at me when I was complying the entire time. They were threatening me with jail and all sorts of things when I had done nothing but comply. I had just received a phone call several days ago from an insurance company saying that the girls car had hit a bent a sign for their client's business they were advertising and told me I will be held financially responsible to an extent. I had spoke to a state patrolmen today and he thought it was ridiculous, but didnt say much besides that. So does anyone have any advice on what I could do to prove it wasn't my fault? Also... to have the girls insurance repair my new car I just bought!? Thank you. more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion about Costa Mesa won't enforce anti-solicitation law?

COSTA MESA - The city of Costa Mesa has placed a moratorium on its anti-solicitation ordinance that civil rights groups say targets day laborers seeking employment on public streets. A month ago, the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, along with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, filed a lawsuit on behalf of day laborers challenging the ordinance. The lawsuit alleged that the 2005 ordinance violates the day laborers First Amendment rights and bans "active solicitation" by, of or from people in moving cars and in commercial parking areas that have signs prohibiting such actions. "They know they are going to lose," said Naui Huitzilopochtli, a member of Colectivo Tonantzin, a day laborer advocacy group. "The day laborers are happy that they settled for the moment." The city of Costa Mesa has agreed to halt enforcing the ordinance pending a decision by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeal on a challenge to a similar anti-solicitation ordinance in the city of Redondo Beach, according to an ACLU release. Costa Mesa officials did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment. Click here for more immigration-related news. The solicitation ordinance is designed to address conduct that creates a public safety hazard and obstructs the entrances and exits to public streets and parking lots, according to the city. The city has for years tried to tackle issues related to day laborers. In 2005, the city shuttered a job center, which citizens argued attracted illegal immigrants and wasted taxpayers' money. The center – formerly on Placentia Avenue – opened in 1988 in response to complaints about loitering, traffic problems and unsafe conditions when laborers searched for work on streets and at parks. In September, police went to five hot spots throughout the city and arrested 12 day laborers for illegally soliciting work in three locations. The day laborers were later deported. Police Chief Christopher Shawkey said in a recent interview that police received 114 complaints from residents and business owners about day laborers intimidating customers and swarming vehicles prior to the September arrests. The day laborers were free to be in the locations if there were no violations of the ordinance, Shawkey added. He said the city has reached out to nonprofit and church groups to let them know about the guidelines of the ordinance. According to the ACLU, the ordinance also stops a wide range of other groups, including small businesses that use handheld advertising on public streets, homeless people who seek donations, people in fund-raising activities and students who try to get the attention of passing motorists for car washes. Besides asking city officials to halt the ordinance, the lawsuit asks that the city pay damages to Colectivo Tonanztin in an amount to be determined at trial. The suit also asks for reasonable attorneys' fees, costs, and expenses of the litigation. http://www.ocregister.com/news/day-237171-ordinance-laborers.html more

Resolved Question: (United States) If Marijuana legalization came up for a vote...?

...how would you vote? Of course, I have an opinion on the subject, so I'd ask you to keep the following in mind: 1. Marijuana has a safety record superior to aspirin. Far superior, actually. 2. It is physically impossible to fatally OD on marijuana. You simply cannot (and would not) smoke enough, quickly enough, to approach the LD50. Yes, even with those legendary strains that your buddy's buddy can get from some guy in the government. Valium, prozac, alcohol, zanex... all addictive, all potentially fatal. Go ahead, rationalize that. 3. The illegality of marijuana drains billions from the economy. Every recreational user that we have imprisoned has to be fed, clothed, guarded, monitored. They must be provided with recreation. Prisons must be built for them. They are fined and fired. Their families lose income, and they may lose their family member. 4. Everyone that wants marijuana can already get it. 5. Legalizing it would take the street value from ~$100.00/oz to ~$5.00/oz. This is bad news if you are a Mexican drug cartel that specializes in the rape, torture, and murder of human beings. Your cash crop is no longer worth the sh** you used to fertilize it. MY PLAN: The law is to state that marijuana may be legal under the following conditions: 1. No advertising. Anywhere. It is not necessary. 2. Sold in pre-rolled boxes of 10 joints. These boxes are sold for $20.00 each. They MUST be hand-rolled. 3. $5.00 from every box is tax to get us out of the god-forsaken deficit this nation is running. 4. The rest goes to the AMERICAN growers and AMERICAN rollers that operate legally and have families to care for, versus drug cartels that murder innocent people. 5. Same laws that apply to alcohol apply to pot. No operating heavy machinery, including cars. "Let the punishment fit the crime."If you find this argument compelling, please click that little star below it. The only way this will EVER happen is if people start raising mortal hell in open society. We cannot do this in "real life" because of the stigma, but we can bloody well embrace common sense on Yahoo. more

Resolved Question: POLL:Is this a good and realistic way to become rich??

Here is one but kind of a gamble. Invest money and work till you get 30,000 dollars. Say you are going to host a the biggest race of all time.Advertise BIG......charge 1,000 dollar admission fee. Must be driver, navigator plus a car. Have 100-150 ppl enter race. Winner wins 30,000 dollars you stay with the rest. They are responsible for food,hotel,safety,etc..make a map to the harshest conditions. Then with that money invest in small stores(some of the money) and stocks. I think this is hustling but no? because winner get 30G,2nd get 10G and 3rd 5G. And of course I'm going to have to find a cheap .way to follow them all. Then with all that money actually start a REAL racing league like NASCAR but in extreme environments with no safety kind of like a Bullrun+Death Race mix. Pay per view 100 for 1 race-150 for 2 and so on .To be in it 1000 dollar admssion applies to this league too or maybe not seeing the recession. Live off the money I make from that monopoly and start mechanic, auto parts stores etc...Race wil not be held in US more
