Open Question: When an advertiser wants to put up an add on your site..and asks you for a quote?

A site that I write for with a friend (We usually do some fairly popular "top 10 lists") have been getting some advertisers wanting to put up advertisements on our site. They usually ask us for a quote to put up an ad for the month. Some do just give us an offer. But when they do ask us for a quote, what should we give them? My friend (who shouldn't be handling the business side of things) told the last advertiser (a poker site!) that they can advertise for $25.00 a month which pissed me off. I said it should at least be $125.00/month with the amount of traffic this list gets that they want to put the ad up on. They never responded and I'm wondering if it's because we devalued ourselves so much by giving such a low-balled rate. The question is, what's a moderate amount of money an advertiser would want for a monthly quote? What do they realistically want to hear without thinking that our site is crap because we give them such a low estimate like $25.00... Thanks. -Brian more

Open Question: Is this false advertising?

Today I was excited to see a fantastic offer from Titan Poker on facebook. Quote: Titan PokerThe first 40 fans to answer the question on our wall (not in Private message), will receive free Token to our $250,000 Guaranteed Tournament. Good Luck! Wow a $300 seat to the $250k GTD just for posting and I was 25th to do so and was well happy. I posted that I was unhappy to post my TTR account number but had done so as the prize was so good. Then over an hour afterwards comes the "cop out" Quote: Titan PokerClarification: The Tokens we are giving are for the qualifications to the $250k on March 12th. the winners will get an invite to the $250k tournament which will be held on March 21st. I have posted my views, they say Quote: Titan Poker Christopher, We are truly sorry you feel like this. we made an honest mistake in the 1st post and didn't descirbe the free token right. we made a clarification about it almost instantly. we have deleted your comment with the TTR. If you would still like to take part in this tournament you will be able to do so if you would like to. your seat is reserved in the qualifications. again, we do apologize for the mix up, we never intended to create a let down for you or any other fan. I am a very unhappy affiliate and i also wonder as to the legal aspect of this as it quite clearly reads Quote: will receive free Token to our $250,000 Guaranteed Tournament What do you think? I still think they should honour the first offer.Someone just said it was a free gift. I had to post my account number therefore leaving my account open to hackers and also reply within 40 posts so it was not "free" as I had to do something for it. Milking Titan?? blood from a stone would be easier!! or milk from a bull lol. People should be made to pay for their mistakes, it's the best way to learn!Oh and the change was from a $300+ seat to a game to play for 2 of them so you best tell us where you work in titan. :-) more

Open Question: Big auto Insurance scams.?

How is it that the big name auto insurance companies spend millions on advertising, telling you how they can save you hundreds, and when you get a quote it is twice what you are paying now. That's after you have told them what you are paying now. more

Voting Question: What do you think of my speach?

Hello, if anyone would like to read my speach and give me some constructive critisism that would be great :) thanks Have you ever opened a magazine and all you saw were pictures of females with absolutly no flaws? Girls, have you ever felt pressured by these commericials advertising your favorite products? Pressure from the media in teen girls is a fast growing problem that leaves many girls feeling bad and unhappy with their apperance and bodies. In the past few decades a strong image of what is "beautiful" has corrupted the minds of many girls, making them feel as if they are not good enough. So what can this pressure do to the female population? Many diseases such as anorexia can be triggered by this pressure. Anorexia is a disease in which you starve yourself and do not take in the nutrients necissary to live a normal healthy life. This pressure can also result in severe depression that can virtually destroy your life. Exposure to this unrealistic image starts at a very young age. Dolls and toys such as Barbie, protrays an unhealthy image of a stick thin flawless body. These dolls set a steriotype in which girls think they should follow. A study was done with girls in US and the results concluded that 86% of girls under the age of 18 admitted to dieting or at one point thought they should loose weight. In this percentage of girls, one percents condition will advance to a full blown eating disorder which CAN result to death. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate in all mental illnesses. All this buzz about what we are expozing to the worlds youth has got many celebrities concerned. Awareness to these problemes is becoming incresingly popular . For example, supermodel Tyra Banks, host of the hit TV show "Americas next top model" recently decided to eliminate the 5 foot 8 standard model height and let woman of any height audition for the show. She also supports plus size models and is one herself. Also, hit talk show host Oprah Winfrey is incredibly passionate about this pressure caused my the media. She quotes "I finally realized that being grateful of my body was key to giving more love to myself. " Recently, you may have seen commericials by dove advertising their "campagne for real beauty." This campagnes mission is to make more woman feel beautiful every day by widening steriotypical views of beauty. The brands commitment starts with using real woman, not professional models, of various ages, shapes and sizes to provoke discussion and debate about todays typical beauty images. Dove did a survey and they found that only 2% of women think that they are beautiful and one third strongly agree that the media and advertising set an unrealistic standard for beauty that most woman cant ever achieve. So, what can you do to help solve this problem? Look in the mirror. Find something you like about yourself and try to focus on that other than your flaws. You will quickly find that you feel better about your apperarence. Also, you may be the only one who notices these flaws in yourself. Always remember, you are your own worst criticnot judged on spelling by the way. im not handing and copy of the speech in, i have to read it in front of the class more

Resolved Question: Can a real estate agent advertise that they specialize in customers who have service provider jobs?

Can a Realtor "specialize" (and publically state it) in customers working in the service field, such as Police Officers, Firemen, Nurses, etc.? Is it legal to advertise this, or is it a form of discrimination? I'm looking for an exact answer, hopefully quoting the laws (in Florida), not just thoughts or "maybes". Thanks in advance.working with more

Resolved Question: In,Tx would I charge sales tax for a service job like house cleaning?

I also want to add that I might be using my business to clean for business offices as well as residential. I also have a partner, so our business is listed as a partnership if that makes a difference. If I have to charge sales tax for businesses, could I still not charge for residential? If I just had residential would I have to charge sales tax. I've comsidered creating 2 seperate businesses. one for business and one for residential to keep from having to charge residential sales tax but I dont know if it makes any difference. I also emailed my question to the site where they answer tx tax question, but they have been slow in giving me a response. I need to know right away, I need to make money, I already doing advertising and giving quotes on houses. business is picking up fast. I need to make sure I have all my bases covered. more

Resolved Question: Do people use YA! for advertising by answering questions?

Why is it i always see people asking questions like ''which car is better, toyota corolla or honda civic'', and people often answer with ''first, try an insurance quote on both...'' and post a link to an insurance company...and don't even touch the subject of the question asked...i'm sure they solely here to promote companies, i don't have a massive issue with it but its a bit annoying, and really frequent, is it allowed by Yahoo rules? more

Resolved Question: Need somebody who can think like a Yahoo Answers moderator?

I answered a question here, and it was flagged. I thought the answer was good, and I couldn't see where it was against the community guidelines, so I appealed the flag. However, I ended up losing -- the Yahoo Answer moderator (not sure what they're really called) decided it was a solicitation. However, I can't see it. Do they think I'm soliciting on behalf of Google or Bing? Here's the answer and their decision: "Can you pay monthly vs. yearly or semi-annually? $2000 per year, while it looks like a lot, is probably pretty decent given the situation. Actually -- that's $166 monthly (plus some fees if you actually pay monthly).. that's not bad at all, sorry to say, and I haven't been 18 for a long time... I paid much more than that. You should look into high risk auto insurance providers. I know that around here, they advertise on local TV all the time -- 'insurance for as low as $45' -- while it's virtually impossible to get insurance that low, I was paying less with Titan Insurance than I was quoted for Allstate, Progressive, and State Farm (about $3,000 yearly)... You won't get a rate anywhere near that, but these flat-rate, high risk providers tend to offer lower rates for high risk drivers than mainstream insurers do. To find a high risk insurance provider (broker, preferably) locally, search Google or Bing for 'high risk auto insurance' + state name + city name (or some variations without the quotes). For instance, if you live near Birmingham Alabama, search for 'high risk auto insurance birmingham al' or something like that. Google may be better as they tend to provide local listings alongside the web-based listings. Alternately, get a quote from every single insurance company that you can find. It'll take a lot of work, but if you use an online insurance broker (they help you get quotes from multiple insurance companies simultaneously), it'll save you some time. Good luck." Violation Reason: SolicitationWell, I always have lost my appeals... but on this one, I thought it was a helpful answer, so I tried to fight it. Maybe it's not possible to win an appeal, then? That's quite ridiculous if that's the case.It wasn't just the initial report, it was after my appeal and when the Yahoo Answers staff or their contractors decided this was a solicitation. After the first answer here, I got to thinking about it -- I've appealed a small handful of flags since I started on here, and I've lost each appeal, though this is the only one that I can think of that told me which Community Guideline I violated. It's just aggravating to put in a decent effort to answer a question to have some slow-wit with tenuous grasp on basic word meanings and context to say this as a solicitation. In the grand scheme of things, this isn't a big deal... I just have little tolerance for incompetence... and it irritates me because their reasoning doesn't make any sense.Riki - no offense meant, as you apparently have spent a great deal of time here -- but answers ARE suggestions. People are coming here to seek help -- suggestions -- and if suggestions are solicitations, nearly every single useful answer on this service is in violation of your version of the Community Guidelines. It's absolutely ludicrous to even entertain the thought that a question and answers community prohibits users from giving others suggestions in their terms of service / rules.Riki - I apologize -- in re-reading your answer a few times, I've come to the conclusion that you probably meant you were giving me a suggestion, not that you were suggesting that suggestions were solicitations. Which, I would compare my poor interpretation to the deplorable job the moderators did with my appeal... but it's different as it's their 'job'. Though, again -- I apologize for my 'dimwittedness'. I'm just going to drop it -- I've let this trivial thing consume too much of my energy today. Thanks for all of your responses. more

Resolved Question: Can I file a complaint?

I want to file a dispute with ebay but I want to see advice before I do it first. I purchased a Samsung D75 Digital camera for £25.00 with an additional £3.50 postage and packaging. The item was originally priced at £29.99 again with a £3.50 postage and packaging but with the ''make an offer'' option I was able to purchase the camera for the first price I quoted. The reason I am cross is because I specifically bought that item as I required the camera urgently (and it was a low price) and it says specifically on the advertisment that it would come ''Royal Mail 1st class recorded delivery''. Of course I was slightly miffed when it didn't come the next day as it hindered my work (I have a buisness on ebay and my other camera broke which is why I bought the item) but I am furious that it still has not come despite ensuring that someone was in on two consecutive days to sign. Now I want my money back. Either I want a refund for the postage and packaging which he falsely advertised as 1st class Royal Mail recorded delivery, a discount on the camera or a full refund. He has my money and I am left losing money over the weekend. What can I do? more

Resolved Question: Yahoo Customer Support?

I recently had one of my yahoo answers accounts suspended and i feel that it is ridiculous. I asked a question asking people if they want invites to lockerz.com. I was not spamming or soliciting as i am not an employee and i only posted the question once. I saw several questions asking for invites so i posted one offering. i emailed thier support and asked for a second chance once, but did not go into detail about my motives and why i feel my account should not be suspened. I was denied reinstatement. I then resent an email several times now over the past week clearly explaining my motives and why i was not in violation of thier terms of service and community guidelines. here is the email: "Dear Yahoo! Answers team, I was recently suspended from yahoo answers for asking a question in which i asked users if they wanted invites to a site know as lockerz. I already explained my motives to posting this question in the previous email i sent to the yahoo answers team, in which i was denied the reactivation of my account, but i will explain them again. I had seen many(at least 5) questions asking for lockerz invites directly or indirectly a couple of weeks prior to posting my question offering invites to lockerz. At the time i did not have the ability to help these people. I could not find these questions when i did gain the ability to give invites, therefore i made my own question offering invites in the hope that people the people who still needed them would see it. This was in no way a solicitation or a form of spam as per your community guidelines and terms of service, as well as common sense. I did not post this question for any means of self gain or advertisement as i am not affiliated or employed by Lockerz, nor do i have any possibility of gain from inviting members to Lockerz. Notice how i did not even specify what type of website Lockerz was, assuming that the people looking for invites on yahoo answers would recognize it. Anybody who was advertising their website or trying to get people to join would have explained what exactly the website was. Also notice how i only posted this question once, rather than post it several times throughout the answers community like many spammers/soliciters do. I am a thorough and active Yahoo Answers member, and i believe that i can make a good contribution to the community if i am allowed to continue contributing. If not, please include instructions on how to delete my yahoo account, as the only reason i have a Yahoo account is for Yahoo answers as i prefer gmail and google wave for my other needs. No I will not be creating a new account. " Message ends after quotes. I have not recieved a reply after a week and am really irritated with Yahoo's ridiculous customer support. I have also seen other questions asking people if they want lockerz invites yet their questions have not been deleted implying that they have not been banned. Honestly without yahoo answers i have no need for yahoo. Its email service and search engine are total garbage. is there anybody else i can appeal to? more

Voting Question: Is the brand Obama sold us overall good or bad for USA?

I read an article about Obama in the Guardian talking about Brands and this person Naomi Klein went on to say both Bush had run the position of president like a Hollow Corporation, whereas Obama somewhat changed this. A quote from the long piece. This preference for symbols over substance, and this unwillingness to stick to a morally clear if unpopular course, is where Obama decisively parts ways with the transformative political movements from which he has borrowed so much (the pop-art posters from Che, his cadence from King, his "Yes We Can!" slogan from the migrant farmworkers – si se puede). These movements made unequivocal demands of existing power structures: for land distribution, higher wages, ambitious social programmes. Because of those high-cost demands, these movements had not only committed followers but serious enemies. Obama, in sharp contrast not just to social movements but to transformative presidents such as FDR, follows the logic of marketing: create an appealing canvas on which all are invited to project their deepest desires but stay vague enough not to lose anyone but the committed wing nuts (which, granted, constitute a not inconsequential demographic in the United States). Advertising Age had it right when it gushed that the Obama brand is "big enough to be anything to anyone yet had an intimate enough feel to inspire advocacy". And then their highest compliment: "Mr Obama somehow managed to be both Coke and Honest Tea, both the megabrand with the global awareness and distribution network and the dark-horse, upstart niche player." http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/jan/16/naomi-klein-branding-obama-america If ya got time should read it. Voting Question: How to dispute false advertising/misrepresentation?

I just recently signed up for a new phone plan. Before agreeing to anything verbally or in any other way, before signing anything, I very clearly asked about specific fees, and charges making it clear I would only go forward in the event they were waived. I was told point blank, verbally and very clearly that they would be waived and those fees/charges would NOT be applied. I then decided to move forward. Next, I asked for and the employee gave us a specific quote for what the monthly bill would be all services and fees included. It was not an estimate. It was a precisely calculated dollar amount. The prices we were quoted in writing by the employee were significantly less than what I am actually being charged now according to the bill I have just received. I got these price quotes before agreeing to or signing up for anything. Basically, the situation now is that I want to cancel the plan. I want to do this because whether or not they intentionally lied about the prices, or made an error or miscalculation, or simply didnt know what they were doing, in any case the price I was quoted was significantly less. And the real price is far more. My bill is significantly higher that I was told it would be. To cancel the service contract they have a $350 cancellation fee. But they also have a 30 return policy. But you have to pay a $35 re stocking fee. I am still within the window to just return and dont need to cancel the contract completely. I dont feel I should have to pay any cancellation fees, restocking fees, and they have both. So, it is clearly a mistake on their part. Its not subjective, its really not even debatable. Its black and white, dollars and cents, simple calculation. How do I dispute this? I ask, because the manager of the sales location was not helpful to begin with so Im not confident he will do his part to fix this and make things right. In the event that he doesn't, what legal/official options do I have to dispute this and make things right? Do I need to file a claim with a particular gov't/federal agency? Basically all I want to do is get out of this service contract because they misrepresented and falsely advertised their products and services. But I am just a man. How do I legally battle this massive corporation with mountains of money? Who do I talk to? Where do I go? Who do I have to sleep with? lol, just kidding Thank you for your help! more

Resolved Question: Motivational Slogan/Quote for a College?

There's this new college opening up in a couple years and they're having a flyer contest and we need to include some kind of advertising headline. Last years winner had, "Take a step towards a brighter future" I was thinking about putting, "Shoot for the stars so you'll at least land on the moon" but it kinda has nothing to do with this. So any ideas? more

Voting Question: English essay... again?

Right, so i've already posted a question about my media essay about two advertisments in Bliss Magazine - Avril Lavigne and Colleen Rooney's perfumes. However, i didn't seem to ask it very well. So here i go again: This is my INTRODUCTION and the start of the body of my essay. I can't use P.E.E because there is very little writing on the advertisements and so i can't quote it very well. If you could give me any help/corrections/ideas it would be very much appreciated. If not, just leave me your thoughts. Thank you. Following your close study on Bliss Magazine, comment on and compare advertisement features which you feel are significant in making it successful. The publishers of Bliss magazine obviously have a clear idea of their target audience. Not only do the bright, girly colours and photographs of current and popular celebrities suggest that it is aimed at teenage girls but also the name 'bliss'- meaning extreme happiness, suggests femininity and youth. The magazine is most likely aimed at females in there early adolescent years and possibly even preteens; perhaps with ages varied between twelve and fifteen. They also obviously know that it is important to appeal to the target audience and so have used a wide range of presentational features to ensure this is achievable; some of these include colour scheme, lay-out, fonts and images. All of the devices used are not only suitable for the Bliss readers but also for the purpose of the magazine which is to entertain, give advice, advertise and ultimately sell. The content usually includes pages based on celebrity gossip, news, fashion tips, interviews and “problem pages” all of which have been designed for the purpose and target audience. Obviously, their main priority is to sell and so they approach the potential buyer bribing them with a “free gift”. They also design the front cover making sure the expensive price tag is the least eyecatching part and is over-powered by other feautures. Some would say that magazines such as Bliss can be quite deceiving because they lure the shopper into buying it and are only interested in the money that they will be receiving. Another way that the company attempts to increase their profits is by advertising. In the December issue of Bliss Magazine, two similar advertisements are displayed that are trying to appeal to the same target audience as Bliss Magazine itself which is why they have chosen to advertise in this particular area of the media. The first advertisement is for Avril Lavigne’s perfume “Black star”. Already, the name suggests a lot about the product. For example; you would imagine it to be gothic and dark because those are the connotations of the colour black. Despite the gothic style, pink is used in the colour scheme so that it can appeal to more than just one group of people. Pink is also a typical feminine colour and so is suitable for the target audience. The name “black star” contradicts itself because stars are never usually described as black, therefore creating a sense of uniqueness and individuality which is something many teenagers aspire to be. The wording “be your own star” tells the reader that buying the perfume can help you to become everything you want to be, making it very persuasive. They also do this by styling Avril Lavigne to look like her perfume bottle. She models a short pink dress with finishing touches including a studded belt, fish net tights and a shinny, silver bangle and is posed to look powerful which breaks the weak and innocent stereotype of a typical girl. Similarly, the bottle is pink and shaped like the dress with a black, star shaped lid which reflects the belt that she is wearing. By mirroring the perfume bottle in the clothes and accessories, it suggests to the target audience that by wearing the perfume, they can be like Avril Lavigne. The second of the two advertisements is about Coleen Rooney’s perfume. It has been styled carefully to look sophisticated and elegant. By using shades of purple rather than pink, it is still able to attract girls but looks more mature and grown up. The advertisement displays a photograph of Coleen, showing her slim, attractive outline and is airbrushed to make her look “perfect”. The contrast of Coleen against outlines of dancers in the background gives the impression of her “standing out”. Like Avril Lavignes perfume, the bottle is very similarly designed to mirror Coleen’s dress. Both are plain black and very graceful. more

Resolved Question: Who are the following quotes from?

'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.' 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.' 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.' 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.' 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself: the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.' Resolved Question: I'm looking for an Albert Einstein quote on advertising..?

...When I was about 13-14 I specifically remeber reading some book or watching some documentary on Einstein, in which it stated that he'd turned down millions of dollars in endorsement deals because he idin't want to be used as a "whore". I can't remeber much more of the quote as it was almost 5 years ago when I read it. And I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know the exact quote? more

Voting Question: Need help with a cute veterinary ad slogan...?

I am making a Yellow Page ad for a veterinary hospital in St. Louis. I've exhausted almost every conceivable idea and have finally decided to go for a cute approach. The ad is meant to target women with families between the ages of 25-64. The basic idea that I've been working off of lately involves a cute little girl sleeping with her puppy...a) by her feet b) in her arms c) as her pillow...with respective quotes...a) "a heartbeat at your feet b) "two hearts that beat as one" c) "a place to rest our heads"...I don't want to get too distracted from the point of the ad, which is to advertise a prominent veterinary hospital in the St. Louis area, but I want to create a friendly, heart warming image that draws the target market in and conveys the company's prestige, expertise, care, warmth, and devotion to both the family and their pet(s)...any suggestions would really be appreciated! Thanks! more

It really builds up your hopes and you really generally want to help but it’s like you've been messed around? It's costing loads through advertising now for no return! Can anyone suggest anyways i can help develop my business as I’m very passionate about it and would love it to work. Thank you more

Resolved Question: please read over my very short essay!?

It's an application for an internship at a Newspaper company... Can you tell me if it's alright? Suggestions will be good. I only found out about this essay about half an hour ago so it's kind of messy... Even from the age of six, I have always had a passion for writing. I used to make up stories and write them down carefully on folded A4 pages, making sure that none of my wobbly handwriting was out of line. As I grew older, I found more and even more things to write about such as leaflets for History class and news articles for English. I've always enjoyed writing news articles in particular. To the mild disgust of my friends, I've always found the news article assignments fun and enjoyable. I’ll never forget the time when I was thirteen and first learned how to write and format a proper essay. I have found a fascination in the way different people write in different styles of writing, and form words together in their own unique way. There’s nothing more satisfying than when I read a sentence that seems to flow smoothly with no awkwardness in words. But nothing compares to my fascination with the way words can influence people. They can be informative and they can sway you completely. The way fashion magazines might persuade you to buy those new must-have Jimmy Choo pumps. The way the opinions section of a newspaper may completely change your stance on a subject. All these things have caused me to become particularly interested in Journalism and Mass Media. ‘The nib of a pen is a sharp as a stone’. This is a quote that I have become familiar with since I was in Primary School. Even then, I could completely understand what it meant. In this century that we are living in, we are surrounded by media. If the Prime Minister sneezes in Downing Street, we’ll hear it all the way here in France. If a popstar makes a racist remark about France, our netizens will be expressing their rage by posting ferocious comments, probably within that very hour. Mass Media has become the ultimate power of the world, certainly sharper than a sword. And all this is what I wish to pursue in life. Whether I work as a reporter, a staff of an advertising agency, or a public relations officer, I know I want to write to inform and to influence others.Oh my gosh I've just read it over and the 1st paragraph is soooo awkward... ahhh! help!! more

Resolved Question: electronic mice repellents and/or Orkin fees anyone?

Hello my victorian flat is getting too many mice visits. We tried peppermint oil and water spray (works well if only a few mice) but I think we have a bigger problem. Has anyone purchased any of those electronic mice repellents? they advertise sound frequencies that keep mice far away for 5,000 ft. Here are some examples: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200328174_200328174 http://www.healthsafetypro.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PET-P3IP7816&Category_Code=PESTC Also, wondering before I try to get a quote, if anyone has used Orkin for getting rid of mice in a victorian home? and about how much they charge? I'm sure is basd on sq ft and stuff, just want to get an idea. thanksPS We have mouse traps in many places, very few results with them. They seem t waltz around themThanks for the other options. I would really like to hear from people who have purchased these electronic mouse repellents. Cheers more

Voting Question: Advertising in schools, for or against?

I know the advantages and disadvantages of advertising in schools, just need some opinions and view points on the matter so that I can quote them in my dissertation. Many Thanks :) more

Resolved Question: Can anyone guess who this quote is from?

(hint - it's shocking that you can get banned for quoting this, given who said it) There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Ne gro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs—partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Ne gro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs… There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public. more

Resolved Question: Do you think the presence of a "help" button would help prevent children being bullied online?

And do you think it would work on here..in CE? Would the presence of a button that could contact trained officers and also provides details of local police and links to 10 other sources of help, deter trolls & clones & pests from their insane bullying?? London, November 18 (ANI): Popular social networking websites Facebook and MySpace have come under fire for failing to introduce a help button for children being bullied online. The outrage comes after rival networking site Bebo adopted the button that allows users to contact trained child protection officers and also provides details of local police and links to 10 other sources of help. Jim Gamble, from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop), criticised MySpace and Facebook for not following the same example of Bebo. He said there was "no legitimate reason" for not doing so and that social networking sites were raking in money through advertising by attracting children and teenagers to join."We applaud that but do not forget while you do that there is a responsibility, a duty of care, to the young and the vulnerable," The BBC quoted him as saying. http://in.news.yahoo.com/139/20091118/854/ttc-facebook-myspace-slammed-for-not-int.html more
