Resolved Question: Liberals: I have a challenge for you. Do you accept it?

I challenge you to for one week watch Fox News in your spare time and, in one week when I will post a follow-up, post all the examples of bias you have found in one week. This does not include conservative talk shows such as Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, etc, as those are advertised as conservative commentary and are not meant as news programs. Just watch news program(not commentar)y on Fox, and at the end of the week tell me what bias you have found. Give me the quote, the name of the program, and the date you saw it. You always say Fox is biased, well here's you chance to prove it. Do you accept the challenge? more

Resolved Question: Why hasn't the MSM covered Obama's racist statements from his own books in his own words?

"I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites." This is an accurate quote from the introduction to Dreams from My Father. "There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white." This is a quote from Dreams from My Father. It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names. This one is also from Dreams from My Father. "I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela." Resolved Question: could someone with good english please cheack this for me ?

Hi Aer Lingus Despite my earlier email,.and your failure to reply . I however passed on your banner headline to " Tell a friend " , to lots of friends who l were equally , dismayed at the fact the TOTAL PRICE suddenly changed at the end of the book in to be nothing like the original quote , ie , when booking for two adults and a child ( 50% ) off ofer , the Total price seemed to ignore the fact that there were 3 persons ,travilling , and also the fact the the childs fare was more than the adult fare . Your site is at least very misleading , at most Ryanairsh . As I had promised the quoted the price to friends , I stood my ground and took the loss , but but appericate an explenation , of what I find is underhanded advertising , via email type promotions .As you fly the flag of what was once an airline, I would have being proud to say, I was from the country of origin , I feel very dissapointed ,in the fact your quailty of sAttach files more easilyervice, has gone so down market , on what I see as the future of marketing , the Internet . As I said before I booked the flights anyway , but please reasure me that in future you may look into what I and friends find totally misleading in your " TOTAL PRCE " box ,on the you book cheap fares site . Resolved Question: Has the time arrived for Americans to accept government censorship?

http://www.lp.org/news/press-releases/ridiculous-pornography-trial-violates-constitution Personally I was shocked when the GWB administration authorized the OPTF in 2005... http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2005/May/05_crm_242.htm The following quote taken from the above link... " The Justice Department is committed to respecting & protecting the First Amendment rights of all individuals. However, the welfare of America's familes & children demands that ***WE*** enforce the laws on the books..." When did Uncle Sam become the welfare of INDIVIDUAL family units??? I thought PARENTS were their children's 'welfare'??? When did the fed become children's parents/welfare??? *WHO* authorized ***WE*** to enforce the laws on the books??? How can the federal government enforce laws on the books that are non-constitutional??? Did I miss something in our federal Constitution??? Maybe, could it be that the feds missed something in our 10th amendment to our Constitution??? The federal supreme court does not understand the INTENT of the 1st amendment??? Last I knew our federal Constitution was/is not a living document??? Am *I* missing something here??? Now the Obama administration seems to be emulating the GWB administration but in high gear. Like is their ANY diff between these administrations other than title? The fed has already censored tobacco advertising, censored political advertising, has/is censoring sexual advertising/activities between consenting adults, & censoring so called junk food advertising. I mean whats next, general internet censorship? more

Voting Question: am I a shady car dealer?

I bought my first car in November 2009 for $5500 and crashed it on April 2010. The front part of my car was damaged and needs replacement such as the bumper, bonnet, compressor, radiator, head lights and it has no battery as Ive used it for my new car, and the registration has expired as I accidently drove into the back a car in front of me. I got it assessed by a machanic/panel beater or smash repairs and I was quoted the damages could be at least $2000 in damages. Im selling this car (through private sale-advertised in front of my place) for $750 but the machanic/panel beater or smash repairs quoted a sell price of only $500. I had a someone who wanted to buy it and I gave them the price of $750 and they were very keen to take that price. Is this fair if someone else with mnore knowledge quoted a much lower price? and will I risk the buyer asking for a refund if they find out how expensive the cost of repairs would be later on? or can they actually ask for refund on a sold used car through private sales? more

Resolved Question: Car insurance quote different than advertised PLEASE HELP!?

Please help me! I slaved my ass off to buy my 1st car, and I could just afford the insurance, I enetered everything on the website how I should and phoned them up today to book, now they have told me that as soon as you add a second driver the price goes up, even though I did add a second driver on the quote, and that is included in the price, now they are telling me it would be over £3000! One guy even told me the quote was incorrect, but that isn't my problem is it? If I was doing my shopping online and something was £3.50 and when I got it delivered they told me it was actually £35.00, they would still have to sell it to me for £3.50! What can I say to them? Surely if I am quoted a price, than that (or roundabouts) is the price I will pay!Quote was £1500.... It was the only quote I could even begin to afford for ANY car. I took me ages to get. Can you actually bargain with insurance companies? more

Voting Question: Would it be Illegal to Advertise this Way?

I own a computer repair store, which repairs computers at literally 1/2 the price of places such as Best Buy. Would it be illegal for me to hire a person to go in front of Best Buy with a sign saying, "Come to _______ and we'll fix your computer for 1/2 the price these guys fix!" or: park a van that says the aforementioned quote in front of Best Buy or: stick a sign that says the aforementioned quote on the route to Best Buy. Resolved Question: Why is Glenn Beck misleading and allowing his loyal followers to be fleeced?

out of their hard earned money? While using 'panic' strategies (sound familiar?) to encourage his listeners to invest in gold with Goldline International, he leads them to believe that they will be buying bullion when what they actually receive is highly overpriced Swiss and French gold coins. <Cashing in on all this is a raft of entrepreneurs who have tapped into financial insecurity and fever dreams of impending tyranny. Nearly every major conservative radio host, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and Dr. Laura Schlessinger has advertised gold. (See "Full Metal Racket," page 30.) But none has done more to cheer on the new gold rush than Glenn Beck. Beck, whose various media enterprises brought in $32 million last year, according to Forbes, has a particular interest in plugging gold. Since 2008, Goldline has been one of his most reliable sponsors. Last year, after Beck called President Obama a racist, and advertisers bailed on his cable show (see "Lonesome at the Top"), Goldline stuck by him. And its loyalty appears to have paid off. In an email, Goldline's executive vice president Scott Carter says that while its Beck sponsorship doesn't bring in the majority of its customers, it "has improved sales," which exceed $500 million a year. In turn, Beck has stood by Goldline. Last year, he made a promo video in which he stated, "This is a top-notch organization"—a quote featured prominently on Goldline's website. After the liberal watchdog Media Matters complained about Beck and Goldline's partnership, Beck posted a video on his site in which he unapologetically noted that he'd started buying from Goldline long before it was his sponsor, back when gold was $300 an ounce.> Read the full article here: http://motherjones.com/politics/2010/05/glenn-beck-goldline-weinerSorry Casey.. obviously you didn't read the article. more

Resolved Question: What are the consequences of violating a "No Solicitor/No Handbill" sign at an apartment complex? (Ohio, Col.)?

I live in Columbus and my apartment complex advertises plainly on the entrance to the area that there aren't to be solicitors or handbills. I come home to find my door stuffed with a very uncouth Baptist leaflet, stating that "My joy and sorrow for all eternity" depends on my comprehension of their filthy little pamphlet because if I don't understand I should (and I QUOTE) "read this tract over and over, without laying it down until you understand it." Come on. I know, I know...these silly bastards want to "help" people, by being imperialistically inclined in their religious beliefs...but I'd wager if I got dressed up on Sunday, went to this church and sat in its congregation, waited for the preacher to get nice and ready, and then stood up in the middle of it and loudly proclaimed my superior belief that we were actually sent to Earth by sentient cows that live on the far side of Jupiter, and that EVERYONE better heed my words because their ETERNAL SNARF (my religion's word for souls) DEPENDS ON IT!!!! OMG!!.....I bet nobody would like that, I'd probably get thrown out, maybe even charged with "Disturbing the peace" or, more realistically, a Hate Crime. All I want is to know the maximum extent of punishment, however petty, a 5 dollar fine, whatever, that I could at least threaten these people with as punishment if I ever see a church leaflet at my apartment again. It sickens me. As I "fantasized" above, they've entered my place of worship (my home) and filled it with their silly-sounding propagandist lies about something that SOUNDS important, like my Eternal Snarf. I take my Snarf very seriously. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Can a lease be nullified if the manager's signature was forged?

I moved into an apartment complex in Las Vegas toward the end of April. There was a $199 move-in special and I was also told I would get a month free. There was a sign up on the gate by the office well into May that advertised one month free, although it has since been taken down. I was told I could pro-rate the month of April, use the $199 move in special for May and then use the free rent for June, which would make July 1st my next rent payment. The leasing agent called her manager to confirm all of this information. I know she spoke to her manager because when we sat down to do the paperwork, I was informed that my monthly pet rent was $15 instead of the $10 she originally quoted. I stopped in the office yesterday after hearing some other tenants had been duped by "1 month free", and was informed by the manager (who is now back from maternity leave) that rent was due for June. I explained the situation, so she grabbed my file and looked over it. She stated several times (in front of another person) that the leasing agent had forged her signature on my lease, that this was the first she had even seen my paperwork and that my boyfriend and I would have to sign a new lease. Does a forged signature nullify the lease and give me the option to get out? more

Resolved Question: what percentage do i charge for building an advertising campaign for a client?

I was told that the way to decipher what to charge a client for creating an advertising campaign for them was to charge a percentage of the total cost of the campaign built for them. What is this percentage that I should charge though? Also, how would you quote a potential client interested in having you create a campaign for them? Would you just first find out what the clients intending to spend on their campaign, then figure the percentage of that campaign cost they're willing to spend, and that be your quote? The company I work for is wanting to branch out and begin creating campaigns for clients; however, we're not exactly sure how to go about quoting prices and what to actually charge. Your help is very much appreciate, as I am not finding much online about this subject. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Vehicle purchased on craigslist?

I bought a vehicle off craigslist early last week for $1,700. The car appeared to be in pretty good shape and ran pretty smooth, I put about 200mi on it and parked it only to notice it was spewing transmission fluid everywhere. I took it in to a shop where I know the guys and they told me it was a torn front seal and they recommended to another shop since they didn't work on transmissions. So after getting an estimate of about 600 to do the job I wasn't to upset, I figured something would go wrong with it. Then after a couple hours the shop called me back and told me that it was very bad on the inside and that the best route was a rebuild or a new transmission. The quote on the rebuild is $1,800...We called the private seller asking to help pay for part since in his ad he claimed "transmission in good working condition", I've put down 800 already and I'm trying to get a loan to pay the rest, my question is, can I take the seller to court for false advertising? To STEWIE: I paid cash for the car, all 1700. I bought the car around 7pm 30miles from my house. So pretty sure the mechanic was closed...I love how you defend crooked people, youre probably a heartless lawyer or a used car salesman who see's no problem in screwing over the working classTo make it more clear I've put 800 down on the transmission repair. Now I'm out of money. more

Resolved Question: Do you think Obama is racist?

Someone was telling me how they think Obama is racist. She pulled a few quotes from his book: "The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person..." "That’s just how white folks will do you." "If [black] nationalism could create a strong and effective insularity, deliver on its promise of self-respect, then the hurt it might cause well-meaning whites, or the inner turmoil it caused people like me, would be of little consequence." "I can no more disown (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown the black community." "I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of twelve or thirteen, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites." "To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists." "I learned to slip back and forth between my black and white worlds. One of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved -- such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time." "The emotions between the races could never be pure; even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart."Woohoo. You go mama! I agree. Resolved Question: We are trying to open up a painting company and cant get no one to quote?

Hi long story short. We just moved from British Columbia to Toronto area, because i had my daughter and wanted to be closer to my family. My boyfriend was a professional painter in BC for years. As we moved to a slightly high class area where people `have money,` we thought that him opening up a painting company was fool proof and would take off immidiatley. NOW we are having trouble paying rent and buying food, with another baby due in 2 months and don`t know what else to do to advertise. There is NOT to much competition at all in this town. He did get a few small jobs from my dads friends in the area but it is not enough. The things we have done to advertise are: Flyers and magnetic cards on mail boxes as they are the multi ,ail boxes one for each street. Put a add in the local paper. Handed in cards to the local paint store. Got magnets to advertise on the side if the car. Drove around and looked for homes that needed painting and knocked on there doors to hand them a card. We still get no calls to quote. With the flyers we put up there are at least 5 of the phone number tabs riped off each one and we placed about 100 around town. What more can we do we just dont understand. more

Voting Question: How Much Should I Charge for a single ad on a blog post?

I have a personal website that I use as a promotional tool for myself, but also have been using it to blog about various things. One particular week, I recapped my cross-country road trip I took when moving from Boston to Los Angeles. Recently, an advertiser contacted me about placing an ad for his hotel chain on one of these posts. He's asking me for a quote on a text link, a banner or a widget. He just wants to place the ad on this one blog post, and not the entire site. I had no intention of ever selling ads on my site, but I am not opposed to it. As for the rich, they kept apart in their handsome houses and—when they wished to escape the heat and dust of Rome—in villas at such pleasant retreats as Herculaneum and Pompeii. Resolved Question: Some questions for breeders to clear things up for me...?

I often see this comparison table listed in answers to distinguish the differences between 'reputable breeders & backyard breeders'. http://www.bonafido.org/backyardbreeder.htm The 5th option down states that the reputable breeder ''Supports rescue groups; knows his actions inevitably play some part in pet overpopulation and euthanasia (one of every four dogs in shelters is purebred). Even with all his efforts to stem over- population, he knows "cracks" will lead to canine deaths'' How exactly do reputable breeders contribute to the overpopulation and euthanasia of dogs? Breeders - do you accept this quote as being the truth, if so, how do you feel about it? I have also noticed a school of thought that any breeder who advertises their pups in the newspapers, online etc is automatically considered a bad breeder and one to stay away from. If this is the case, how exactly are breeders meant to make people aware they have puppies available? more

Resolved Question: English phrases help?

Hi, I need some help in understanding the sentences below, in particular the meaning of the phrase in quotes.. thanks for your help: 1) Yes, you can say that technological excellence is in the DNA of Formula One, but revelling in that at the expense of the pursuit of excitement is merely "pandering to a niche market." 2) Even Jose Mourinho must be "quaking in his suede loafers"(why suede loafers, it's meaning?) at the prospect of confronting this team in the Champions League quarter-finals. 3)Some of his swings were just "corkscrew wild" (why a corkscrew?), played with an abandon that strangely brought out the best from his rivals 4)UEFA , with their usual "acute sense of priority", will not allow brand advertising to deflect publicity from their own corporate masters. 5)"he's talking out of his bratwurst." 6)"I am on a litany of them" — three councils, maybe six boards." 7) Among the charges being "peddled" is the accusation Keane is too unforgiving with his squad. 8) "he may be approaching his glass ceiling" Thanks a lot for your help!!" Resolved Question: Why do atheists want other people to be atheists?

Why do atheists want other people to be atheists? Religious people are almost always happy with their belief system. There is massive amounts of evidence that spirituality can help people with morality, pain, depression and encourage charity and wellbeing in entire communities. Why are atheists often so eager to convert other people and take this away from them? I would just like to take a few quotes from a previous question to back up my claim that atheists can be assertive with their beliefs: "Atheists assertive?? Get real. We're not the ones with billboard and TV ads all over the place." - There are all sorts of groups that "preach" atheism, even on this website. Richard Dawkins advertised it on buses for example - http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01217/Atheist-Bus_1217553c.jpg "We are a minority, and have to shout to be heard. However, if the majority just speaks the same words at the same time, it's a roar." "I'm one of those people that's on the fence. Resolved Question: I am buying a new car and I want to finance using Chrysler/gmac, however the dealer has other ideas.?

They will not discuss the possibility of my using Chrysler/gmac with their current incentive rates, but keep telling me they can get me a better deal. I have no quibbles about the price on the vehicle- I agree with that aspect. But, I want to finance with Chrysler/gmac , not through whoever the dealer decides. The dealer will not actually come out and say that their price quote is dependent on my financing through them, but they won't seem to let me. WHY? I know they somehow will be making money through selling the loan to a creditor, but why would they be so reluctant to let a buyer use their own companies advertised incentives? Shouldn't Chrysler be encouraging them to push the incentives Chrysler offers? What gives? I guess no dealer discount if you finance through Chrysler.. more

Voting Question: What is the most successful product that has never directly advertised itself?

I came across a quote that made me think about this question: “Advertising is a tax you pay for being unremarkable.” – Robert Stephens, Founder of the Geek Squad I think there are some very good answers to this question, and maybe even something to be learned...Machine generated responses piss me off! more

Resolved Question: How can Dominos Pizza get away with their new advertising campaign?

I order pizza pretty often. Early on I learned that Dominos was pretty bad, so I stayed away from them. Their new Ad campaign basically has them admitting that their pizza has been crap since they opened their doors, and stating that they have revamped their whole recipe and improved upon every facet of their Pizza. They even show Chefs pouring their hearts out at the change. All of this made me want to try them again, so I ordered a special $5.55 each Medium Pizza, Bread Bowl and Sub. The whole meal was awful. The pizza crust was slopped in a greasy semi-sweet semi-garlic oil-slime, the sauce was so pasty it was like jello and the cheese and toppings were so sparse they cannot be commented on. The bread bowl was nothing short of disgusting and no one wanted more than 1 bite. It was slopped in the same sugary slime as the pizza, the pasta was and either uncooked or old; as it was dried out enough to be crunchy. The Chicken Habanero sandwich was not too bad, it had decent flavor but it was unbelievably skimpy. Compare it to a $5.00 sandwich from Subway or Wendys or to a Pizza Hut Pizzone and it comes up extremely short. The food was awful. The delivery guy was nice and he arrived on time but when he quoted the price it was $2 more than it was supposed to be. It turns out that Dominos charges $2 for delivery now, and it's apparently not something they mention when they accept the order, so that too was disappointing. Now all of that is certainly construable as opinion, but that was my experience as I perceived it. Obviously I was not happy. The Dominos commercial states EMPHATICALLY that you are guaranteed to love their new Pizza and that if you don't for any reason they are happy to give you your money back. The Head Chef then goes on to emphasize; "All of it, not half of it, ALL of it!" I called Dominos to tell them about my experience and I was offered a free Lava Bread the next time I placed an order. I explained that I wasn't going to be placing anymore orders and that I wanted my money back. The manager told me that Dominos did not do that. I mentioned the commercial and quoted the Chef and the manager responded by telling me that was just TV and that the best he could do was send me a new Pizza (not a bread bowl or a sub either JUST the same medium pizza) and that I would have to pay the $2.00 delivery charge for it. I told him that we hadn't eaten the first pizza and that I didn't want another one. I told him I wanted my money back a second time ....... and he hung up on me. I do not understand how a company can NATIONALLY ADVERTISE that they have a 100% money back guarantee that you will LOVE the product ( not just like or be satisfied with it but LOVE it is what they say in their ad ) and then utterly and totally break their word on it when someone asks about it and get away with it. I order pizza at least once a month and both Pizza Hut and Papa Johns always bring me my moneys worth. I wish I hadn't even tried Dominos again, they were always bad (and they have now admitted this) but......... HOW can they outright lie about a 100% money back guarantee and get away with it? With all the legal BS we have to go thru in this day and age is there no one who verifies claims made by nationwide franchises on national TV ? What can I do about this? I am pretty mad........... more

Resolved Question: When it comes to assessing the pros/cons of the healthcare bill who's opinons do you give more weight?

The opinions of physicians? http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=506199 Or politicians? Spare me in pointing out that the AMA backed this plan. I'll just go ahead and quote the article: "Nowhere in the Times story does it say doctors as a whole back the overhaul. It says only that the AMA — the "association representing the nation's physicians" and what "many still regard as the country's premier lobbying force" — is "lobbying and advertising to win public support for President Obama's sweeping plan." The AMA, in fact, represents approximately 18% of physicians and has been hit with a number of defections by members opposed to the AMA's support of Democrats' proposed health care overhaul."For the low attention span folk out there who won't click the link and read the article, I spell it out for you: most major polls show that the majority of physicians think that this bill will harm the overall quality of the nation's healthcare. more

Resolved Question: Please tell me This IS NOT true !!!?

Shawn Michaels is telling his friends that he will be retiring at (or after) WrestleMania. HBK has been quoted of saying that he wants to spend more time with his children. This though is not just a rumor. Many facts back this up such as his contract which is set to expire soon and the fact that he is not advertised for any show to be held after Wrestlemania. Last year, Shawn said, in a radio interview, that he had given WWE his retirement date which close to this year's WrestleMania. In the same interview, he said that he might continue wrestling even in his fifties, but only a match or two per year. This match will probably be the least predictable in WrestleMania as The Undertaker has been rumored to quit his career because of an injury in his knee which apparently seems to be serious enough to require a minor transplant. more

Resolved Question: I Have Been Learning About Islam...?

I have also been writing a blog about it as I learned. I'm going to post one of my recent entries here. I'm not going to post a link to it or try to advertise it, I just want to ask if you guys would do a fact check for me. I really want to do justice to Islam. It's a beautiful religion and I'd hate to misrepresent it. If you find mistakes in what was written or interpreted, I'd like to be able to go back and make corrections before too many people see it and even more misinformation is out. "Greetings Everyone, Again, I apologise for the lengthy delays in my entries. I have gotten a few private emails asking if I have abandoned this blog and would like to reassure you all now that this is NOT the case at all. I have had an overwhelming amount of things going on. Since I have been preparing for surgery (Tuesday the 9th at 4pm Arizona time) I decided that since I couldn't be on anyway, I'd send my computer for some maintenance, which was long overdue. It's taken longer to fix than anticipated. To top things off, the other day, my mother was going to the pharmacy to pick up a pre-op medication for me and was struck by a driver who was under the influence of alcohol and a sedative. She has a cracked sternum and a few ribs are bruised, but she is otherwise ok. Needless to say, I have been quite overwhelmed and my blogs have been lower on my priority scale and, in all honesty, a bit out of mind. I am going to try to make up a bit for lost time with you wonderful people in this blog and while I am recovering. On a side note- I wold like to thank everyone who remembered my health issues and surgery date from my other blog and went to my blogger profile, found my facebook, and either added me to give me advice or sent me well-wishes for the surgery (or both, lol). You guys have really brightened my days. Before I get going in the main parts of what I've learned while away, I would like to draw attention to a bit of news I find rather disturbing. It has come to my attention that the wearing of a hijab (or other religious covering for women and men alike) has been banned in France, Germany, and Turkey. For such countries who proclaim to be progressive and tolerant, this seems to me to be a HUGE blow to basic human rights. Taking away a person's religious freedoms is taking away a huge part of their identity. If people can justify this sort of oppression with certain groups of people, it's only a matter of time before it gradually works its way around and freedom is denied to EVERYONE. This is a common method used by fascism and dictatorial governments. It's a slowly increasing oppression to get people used to being herded. And it's so slow that people don't use their voice to speak up against it and even fail to notice. That is until they finally realise their voice has been taken away from them. It starts with one group and moves to others. It genuinely frightens me a bit to think that it's starting up again. Did people not learn this with the Holocaust and Nazi Germany? With the USSR? I would like you to take a moment to think about the poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller: First they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out.... Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out... Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out... Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me... and there was no one left to speak out for me. Even if you are not a Muslim or religious, I still ask you to sign this petition granting our brothers and sisters of all faiths their basic human rights to worship as they believe is right and good. If we do not speak out when this starts, as the poem I quoted states, when they come for the rest of us, there will be no one left to speak out for us. As Newton's first law states, an object in motion will remain in motion until acted upon by a greater force. If we all stand together on this- we can BE that greater force. Now that I've gotten my preachiness out of the way, let's all get ino why we're all here on this blog to begin with- to learn about Islam and to realise they are not terrorists. When I was able to meet with a local Imam with my mother, he loaned us acouple book. The one I will be covering with you first is "Towards Understanding Islam" writen by Sayyid Abul A'la Mawdudi (1903-1979, may he rest in peace). The book, though only a mere 122 pages (and not really starting until page 15), is a surpisingly thorough and good introduction to those of us with very little knowledge about the Islamic faith. It consists of 7 main chapters (The meaning of Islam, Faith and Obedience, The Prophethood, The Articles of Faith, Prayer and Worship, Din and Shari'ah, and The Principals of the Shari'ah) and several mini-articles or breakdowns within them. Let's start with the beginning- The Meaing of Islam. The first thing mentioned is that every religion of the world has been named after a foua founder, community, or nation in which it came to be. Christianity from Jesus Christ, Judaism from the Jews, Buddhism from Gautama Buddha, etc etc. Islam is more a title of attributes and, according to the Holy Qur'an, anyone who is good and righteous, possessing the attribute, is a Muslim. But what does "Islam" itself mean? It's an Arabic derived word alluding to the submission, surrender, and obedience to God or Allah. In an interjection made by the editor, it's stated that "peace" is the literal meaning of the word "Islam". For those people thinking that Islam is a hateful religion full of terrorists, it may come as a surprise to them to learn this. That the actual word of Islam itself hints that the only way to achieve true peace within your mind, body and soul is through the submission and obedience to Allah rather than violence.Mawdudi then goes on to explain that everything in the universe has an order. Everything follows a set of "laws", be they physical, biological, chemical, etc. The sun, matter, and energy all behave in a set way that Allah has ordered them too. Thus evey micro-organism in the universe, known and unknown by man, is Muslim as it follows that law whether the human person believes in it or not. Even those denying the existence of Allah still have to, in some extent, live by the laws of Allah. Gravity still works for him. His body still converts food to energy. He can still breath. It's believed that from the time you are conceived until you are once more dust, every fibre and molecule of your being must still obey the physical laws to which Allah has ruled. While in this physical realm, everything is Muslim, there is also the spiritual realm of a person's existence. We, as people, have the ability and power to think, to judge, to study and to come to conclusions. We have free will. This, given the belief that Allah is there, is truly a gift. Free will is what allows us to be who we are. Cows, pigs, grass... they do not get this level of consciousness. There is no choice for them. Humans are truly blessed with free will. But it has a downside too. If used wrong, there are consequences. A person who behaves righteously in accordance to the set of rules given to them by Allah will enter paradise. The person who spurns His law and who is not a good person will be punished. Think of Allah as a parent. If we, the children, do not follow the rules, we will be punished. A person who submits themselves to the will of Allah is thus spiritually a Muslim. The acknowledgement that there is one Lord who rules the universe and one Lord who must be worshipped is the path to follow. And submitting yourself to Allah is considered the most important life decision there is.The next thing he discusses is disbelief. This is the idea that a person, though born a Muslim and unconsciously being one through their whole life, does not follow the Qur'an or the rules given to them by Allah. They CHOOSE to deny their Lord. This person is an unbeliever or, in the language of Islam (Arabic), a "Kafir". This is not to be mistaken for the racist South African term "kaffir" even though it is thought to be derived from the Arabic "Kafir". It comes from "Kufr" which literally means "to cover or conceal". This is a logical name since someone who denies Allah "conceals or covers the truth" with their disbelief. This is essentially the same as denying that your body functions i a specific way as designed by Allah to function. The thought that your every fibre is lifeless and random in existence with no point is unthought of. It's basically thought that this sort of person denies reality itself. "Kufr" is considered not just a form of ignorance, but ignorance itself. For a Muslim, what else could be more ignorant than the denial that we came into existence by the will of something greater? It's like saying a building can be made without an architect. We are, in a way, buildings and cities of our own right and Allah is considered the Great Architect. We are built from the ground up. Someone who doesn't realise this can't start things correctly. As Mawdudi stated, "How can one who has made the wrong beginning reach the right destination? He will fail to ind the key to Reality." It's a heavy thought. It's also thought that "Kufr" is not just a form of tyranny, but the worst of all tyrannies. This means that anyone who resorts to "Kufr" is doing an injustice not only to themselves, but to others whom they come into contact with because they rebel against nature itself. They become an instrument of hate and disobedience. Thus it's important to SUBMIT. There's that word again. Is anyone noticing how tyranny and injustice is AGAINST Islam?I don't know about my fellow Christians or people raised in other faiths or non-faiths, but I've yet to find terrorism. It is said that someone who is disloyal to their country or family is a traitor and bad things befall them. The same is believed of Allah and Islam. The only thing asked of you as a person in accordance to Islam is to give your heart and faith to Him and you will have a fulfilling life. A "Kufr", on the other hand, will fail in his endeavers and not lead a very fruitful life. When you first read things, it can seem a bit complicated to those of us who have never learned about the religion of Islam, but it's really quite beautiful in it's simplicity. The righteous are rewarded and traitors are punished. The "Kufr" people ae considered damaging to peace and balance in the world and in life, and they will be on the receiving end of the injustices they bestowed upon others in the afterlife. If you are kind, you will experience kindess, he cruel will experience cruelty. This is all I have time for until after my surgery, but I think this is an adequate bit of information to think over for a few days. :-) Have a lovely week and I will get back to you on "Faith and Obedience" with the next chapter. " If you guys can think of anything I've stated incorrectly here or if I should touch more on any other topics for this, let me know. Again, I'm not advertising my blog, I just want people to see the true side of Islam, not the lies that my country is showing with the press here. I welcome any guidance and assistance you have to offer so long as you don't insult anyone. I had one person who was constantly telling me how ignorant Imams are and it made me uncomfortable. Please be polite to each other. I just wish to learn the truth from you.Thank you so much. The additional details are all up for that one entry. I have a total of 9 blog entries so far. I have a link to it on my profile here, so if you want you can click my photo and find it on my Y!A profile. I really like learning about Islam. It's a moving experience. I just figured this was the best place to ask for further guidance and checks on my facts. I don't want to misrepresent something that beautiful. I will fully admit I am the less knowledgable source. This is just part of my journey with discovering Islam and I want it to be done right. The name of my blog is 'Christianity and Islam: A Quest for Understanding" if you would like to look it up on the "Blogger/Blogspot" blogging site. It's against the rules for me to post the site here since they say it's advertising, but I really could use some feedback in discovering the faith. Sure, reader numbers are cool, but I'm more interested in bonding with new friends over real talks of faith than for reader numbers. And no one gets internet famous off of a blog, lol. I'm nowhere near pretty enough for that anyway. Thanks to all of you who are responding. I had no idea about Mawdudi. I'd love to know who would be better to read? more

Voting Question: When an advertiser wants to put up an add on your site..and asks you for a quote?

A site that I write for with a friend (We usually do some fairly popular "top 10 lists") have been getting some advertisers wanting to put up advertisements on our site. They usually ask us for a quote to put up an ad for the month. Some do just give us an offer. But when they do ask us for a quote, what should we give them? My friend (who shouldn't be handling the business side of things) told the last advertiser (a poker site!) that they can advertise for $25.00 a month which pissed me off. I said it should at least be $125.00/month with the amount of traffic this list gets that they want to put the ad up on. They never responded and I'm wondering if it's because we devalued ourselves so much by giving such a low-balled rate. The question is, what's a moderate amount of money an advertiser would want for a monthly quote? What do they realistically want to hear without thinking that our site is crap because we give them such a low estimate like $25.00... Thanks. -Brian more

Resolved Question: Is this false advertising?

Today I was excited to see a fantastic offer from Titan Poker on facebook. Quote: Titan PokerThe first 40 fans to answer the question on our wall (not in Private message), will receive free Token to our $250,000 Guaranteed Tournament. Good Luck! Wow a $300 seat to the $250k GTD just for posting and I was 25th to do so and was well happy. I posted that I was unhappy to post my TTR account number but had done so as the prize was so good. Then over an hour afterwards comes the "cop out" Quote: Titan PokerClarification: The Tokens we are giving are for the qualifications to the $250k on March 12th. the winners will get an invite to the $250k tournament which will be held on March 21st. I have posted my views, they say Quote: Titan Poker Christopher, We are truly sorry you feel like this. we made an honest mistake in the 1st post and didn't descirbe the free token right. we made a clarification about it almost instantly. we have deleted your comment with the TTR. If you would still like to take part in this tournament you will be able to do so if you would like to. your seat is reserved in the qualifications. again, we do apologize for the mix up, we never intended to create a let down for you or any other fan. I am a very unhappy affiliate and i also wonder as to the legal aspect of this as it quite clearly reads Quote: will receive free Token to our $250,000 Guaranteed Tournament What do you think? I still think they should honour the first offer.Someone just said it was a free gift. I had to post my account number therefore leaving my account open to hackers and also reply within 40 posts so it was not "free" as I had to do something for it. Milking Titan?? blood from a stone would be easier!! or milk from a bull lol. People should be made to pay for their mistakes, it's the best way to learn!Oh and the change was from a $300+ seat to a game to play for 2 of them so you best tell us where you work in titan. :-) more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my speach?

Hello, if anyone would like to read my speach and give me some constructive critisism that would be great :) thanks Have you ever opened a magazine and all you saw were pictures of females with absolutly no flaws? Girls, have you ever felt pressured by these commericials advertising your favorite products? Pressure from the media in teen girls is a fast growing problem that leaves many girls feeling bad and unhappy with their apperance and bodies. In the past few decades a strong image of what is "beautiful" has corrupted the minds of many girls, making them feel as if they are not good enough. So what can this pressure do to the female population? Many diseases such as anorexia can be triggered by this pressure. Anorexia is a disease in which you starve yourself and do not take in the nutrients necissary to live a normal healthy life. This pressure can also result in severe depression that can virtually destroy your life. Exposure to this unrealistic image starts at a very young age. Resolved Question: Can a real estate agent advertise that they specialize in customers who have service provider jobs?

Can a Realtor "specialize" (and publically state it) in customers working in the service field, such as Police Officers, Firemen, Nurses, etc.? Is it legal to advertise this, or is it a form of discrimination? I'm looking for an exact answer, hopefully quoting the laws (in Florida), not just thoughts or "maybes". Thanks in advance.working with more

Resolved Question: In,Tx would I charge sales tax for a service job like house cleaning?

I also want to add that I might be using my business to clean for business offices as well as residential. I also have a partner, so our business is listed as a partnership if that makes a difference. If I have to charge sales tax for businesses, could I still not charge for residential? If I just had residential would I have to charge sales tax. I've comsidered creating 2 seperate businesses. one for business and one for residential to keep from having to charge residential sales tax but I dont know if it makes any difference. I also emailed my question to the site where they answer tx tax question, but they have been slow in giving me a response. I need to know right away, I need to make money, I already doing advertising and giving quotes on houses. business is picking up fast. I need to make sure I have all my bases covered. more
