I have a website that I want to promote. I don't have the funds to promote it and posting it on most sites (including this one) is considered spam and gets deleted. Adding my site to google & yahoo and other search engines for free produces ZERO results and I found out the hard way that the whole "backlinks" thing is a bunch of crap. I need a free advertising solution that will produce results. Not posting on forums with zero success and not promoting through facebook, I just would like the name of a site that I can give my site information to that will help me promote it with RESULTS. I found the job on craigs list a couple of weeks ago for 2-3 weekends a month to watch two kids ages 5 and 4. I looked up the woman's address on telus phonebook to see if the address, name and phone number were real, and also took a drive to the house with my dad to see if it was a nice enough area (although I still know that craigs list can advertise scams, I am still cautious of it) so now she would like me to come for an interview to her home tomorrow morning, I asked her beforehang if it would be in a public place or her house, and she said that she has her kids with her so it would have to be in her home but understood that a public place would have been better to make all the potential babysitters feel more comfortable. so anyway...my grandmother is giving me a ride ( I am 17 and can't drive due to medical issues) and nobody else can give me a ride and taking the bus would take at least an hour and a half. She now wants to come in with me to the interview because she is "concerned" apparently. i am 17 and am perfectly capable to be independent so would it look bad if she comes in with me? will it make it look like I can't even look after two kids if I an adult has to meet the mother or even come in to the interview? :S Should I tell my grandmother that I want to do this alone? or tell the mother of the children in advance that I might have someone come in with me? If she comes in with me how should I let the mother know? Open Question: Problem with my external disk drive?

Please leave in depth details, I am only 14 and my knowledge of computers is limited. Okay. So, the disk drive on our computer broke the other day. I know this because my Sims disk did not load, and I tried other types of disk and neither did they work. I asked a friend and he suggested an external disk drive. We purchased one, and plugged it in. When we plugged it in it detected something was there (we are on Windows XP with a computer of around 6 years old) in a little window at the bottom, then popped up claiming there was a problem with the installation and could not load properly. The disk drive is advertised as 'plug and play' but did come with a small CD-ROM. However, the instructions claim this on only for Windows 98. I tried the disk anyway but it did not load. The instructions on the disk drive are practically non-existent, so we got no help there. We also tried troubleshooting it with the Windows Programme but this did also not work. We opened the device manager through My Computer and saw that there were 2 devices listed under 'DVD/CD-ROM drives', a DVD and a CR-ROM drive (one from Toshiba and one from Samsung I think, which puzzled me a little as there was only one drive plugged in). My mom asked me to uninstall it and re-install it again. I reluctantly agreed but now it is only installing one of the drives back in now, the DVD drive. We asked around and it we were asked if we had something already installed as an E: drive, and we did. We were told to change the name of it so that it would make room in the E: drive for the external disk drive, but this did not work. It is detecting at least some of the device there, but it will not show in My Computer still! On the instructions it says about checking 'CMOS', but this is above my range of knowledge and do not know how to access this. Any help getting into CMOS? We were also asked if our computer is USB 1 or 2, and so may not be compatable with the device. We could not find any information on the device instructioons on if it was USB 1 or 2. So all in all... -How to get the device to show up on My Computer? -What is CMOS and how do I access it? -How to know if the device (or our computer) is USB 1 or 2? -How to re-install the CD-ROM part of the device if it is already 'plug and play' -Any other suggestions on why the computer is not working? Before you ask, I have used the disk drive on 2 other computers, 1 Vista and 1 XP and they have both worked. So the device is not broken. Sorry for a very long question. Open Question: Do you think it will be hard to find her a forever home?

So I rescued a little welsh mare about 3-4 weeks ago I will give you a little info on her: Name: Sunny Registered: Will be once I get the papers (Section B) Age: 4 on 2.10.2010 Breed: Welsh Height: 13.2hh She can be a little spooky around cars and trucks, but we're working on that. Good to C/S/F/R, haven't bathed her yet as it's winter. She isn't good with being wormed (we had to use pellet wormers). FANTASTIC to tack up and groom. Didn't flinch when I put the girth around her and you couldn't find a horse that is more accepting of the bit. She is very quiet for a horse her age. Stays fat on grass only (literally, I'm lunging her for about 45 minutes a day and she is actually a little overweight), she's very smart, knows voice commands. I'm currently breaking her in (have done lunging, mouthing, long reining, hopefully will have a saddle on her by wednesday) and she is coming along nicely. I won't be selling her until I can find a good home for her, and I'm not in a huge rush, I won't be selling her until she has been broken in for a little while (1-2 months after I will start advertising). Anyway, what I'm asking is this: Will I have trouble finding her a "forever home" because of her height and age? I know she is young but ideally I want her to stay with the family I choose for her so that she can have a good home, I don't want them selling her in a few years to some doucheface who thinks horses need to eat carrots and apples. I will be selling her to a good home though, so I don't think that's likely, she will also be worth a good amount when she's broken, similar horses in my area are going for $2,000-$4,000 so I think that makes it less likely that if they sell her she will go to a bad home. Wow, I got way off subject. Basically, I'm worried that due to her height she will be sold on constantly when children outgrow her. Also, do you think that it would be rude to stay in touch with the home she gets sold to? I would like to know how she is doing afterwoods. hi, there is a pet shop i use which is near to me, and i have been buying their things for many years, i trust that they are better informed than most other pet shops and the staff are required to create their own 1-3 page care sheets as 'homework' once a month (i know this because my friend works there- they have a rota, and those on 'mammal duty' need to prove they know the proper care of a specific animal, eg hamster, and hand it in to the boss. anyone who gets more than 5 things wrong is given time off to study the care of that animal and adjust their care sheet, they get 3 strikes and then are 'demoted' if they prove to not know much about the animals. anyway, those are the reasons why i prefer their shop to others, (that and the animals are always in pristine surroundings, plenty of space, and their food bowls are always clean- a sign of neglect in pet stores is if there is a green rim around the water bowl. they even put out leaflets and care sheets for each animal and let you know the test results of their water every week.) the problem is that i decided id like to have some fish they have there, they advertise them as 'albino pygmy corydoras'. yet i have just been told there is no pygmy corydora of the albino variety, they are just selling young albino corydoras. are they allowed to advertise these as pygmy? they also state very clearly 'these pygmy's are great for those who cant get a big enough tank for the larger species, they like lots of room and a well established tank and prefer to be in groups of 3 or more, but wont grow to the size other corydora's catfish do!!!' do they realise that they arent pygmy, but babies of the normal albino corydoras? more

Resolved Question: Where can I buy a kid's toy advertised on tv, think it's called a "u bag"?

My daughter (nearly 7) keeps asking for a "u bag" or "you bag" - not sure if this is the correct name - that she saw on an advert. It has a strap for over the shoulder use, if I remember correctly. They also have a model for horses. It is supposed to be a deep hypoallergenic cleaning system. I can not remember the name of the company or how to reach them. Their system looked very revolutionary. They advertise that you clean the dog in your clients home, where the pet is most comfortable. so i recently learned that Parabens is a toxic that is in most shampoo, facewash, deoderant, lotion etc.. and it gives you cancer (breast cancer) and i was researching this and it was saying how parabens are usually in products that are advertised on t.v and ALL of my products are from tv and it was giving a list on products that doesnt have parabens in them but I'v NEVER heard of them so how do they expect me to buy all those things i never even heard of?! and i was looking on the "ingredients" lables on products that i have and it doesnt say parabens on them! so im guessing they have another complicated name so.. My name is Mark. I am a creative practice BA Honours degree graduate of Newcastle college. Specialising in Graphic, Editorial and Web Design. Since completing my degree this May I have had some time out and have tried a couple of full time jobs in fields other than that my degree is in. I have never done anything like this, and although i have the editing skills, The business and startup side of things I have no idea about. Little Bio about myself: I am 28yrs old guy living in San Francisco. During my first year at undergrad school, I found out that I was interested in Multimedia and Design. I took it up as a hobby and continued with my degree and finally graduated with a computer science diploma after four years. But by that time, I had unconsciously made-up my mind that I wanted to work in visual effects industry for Hollywood movies (It sounded impossible to me because I was sitting in a third world country thousand of miles away with no clue about the Effects business). But I guess my motivation paid off and a year later I moved to US to study at a design college for MFA in visual effects and computer graphics. I had to work really hard for a year to develop a design portfolio to get into this school. But quite soon I found out that I am not the smartest kid among a huge group of people at my school, all of them wanted exactly the same thing - to get into the five best effects companies in the world. After I graduated, I started applying to these companies with no money and no contacts. From here onwards I left it completely on luck and to some extent God. So it happened, I ended up getting a job at a company that seemed impossible to get into and only a handful fresh graduates make it there. I am talking about a very famous vfx company which probably shaped american pop culture through some of its iconic movie characters from 80's and 90's. I needed a visa and money to move to san francisco, and I still feel lost at words sometimes how everything fell into place because that's what I wanted and someone somewhere was listening. So here I was two and half years after I decided to work for 'hollywood' movies actually 'doing' it. Now coming back to my question. Although I absolutely love my job and literally everything about it (I have zero complaints) but for the past month or so, I have started to feel this emptiness growing inside me. I won't lie if I say money is a factor in this whole saga, but I have started to feel that I need to do something bigger. Just the thought of starting my own business makes me smile. Some people might argue that's a tough thing and very few people succeed but basing on my previous experience, I think everything is possible. Motivation, determination and hardwork is the key. And offcourse being a little smart about decision you take in life (which some people call calculated risks) I usually meet a lot of successful people at my company as well as guests who come to speak here. People who have won oscars/baftas/and grammys, contributed something to this world and made a name for themselves. It makes me even more eager about doing something for myself but at the same time I feel that my thoughts are all over the place. I only have about roughly two years of experience here, but since I am 28 already - I want to do something before I turn thirty. That gives me only two years. I don't want to leave my job for few years (until I see something is shaping up) but this idea (of doing something for me) is very contagious as Nolan puts it in inception :). I am really passionate about movies and CG. And I also have really keen interest in brands and advertising. But, I am having a hard time to come up with an idea that converges all of my interests at a single place. This whole dream that I am dreaming is very new to me, so may be I need some more time to think about it.. so there you have it, i dont know if it's a question that I am asking here, I am probably just thinking loud. But what would you do in this scenario. You think I am being bit unreasonable for thinking about start-up so soon, when I am practically not even a US citizen yet. Do you have any ideas I can brainstorm with. I am almost convinced america is a land to make your dreams come true - and I want to give it a try. Thanks for any input! more

Resolved Question: Can I demand that my landlord pay for trash if the place was advertised to include all utilities?

I saw an ad on craigslist for a house, and it said that all utilities were included. When I signed the lease, I saw that water, gas, electricity, gardening, etc. were paid by the landlord, and that all other utilities (in my mind: phone, cable, internet) were to be paid by the tenant. But what I didn't notice until too late was that "trash" wasn't on there, and so I had to get the service put into my name. The landlord refused to pay for it, saying that it wasn't on the lease, which is what I signed, and I realize that. But given other things he's done, I know now that he did this on purpose to trick me into paying that utility, which is about $30 a month where I live and that's as low as it gets. I've since moved out of the house and have to sue him for my security deposit, which he never refunded. I'm doing this through small claims so there will be no attorney involved. I've been getting some free legal advice, but so far been mislead many times to the point I think I could get a better answer on here than through them. So my question is this: Can I also sue him for basically tricking me into paying for the trash service? I mean, I don't think it was that stupid of me to miss that the lease said "trash" when other things like water and electricity were on there. Do you think a judge would agree that the landlord was being misleading? I don't have the original ad that said that utilities were included, because it was on craigslist, and the ad has long since been taken down. I know $30 a month isn't too much money, but over the course of a year long lease it really adds up. Still, I don't want to sound like a (litigious) idiot in front of a judge. Thoughts?Well, he said that all utilities were included, and if you re-read you'll notice that even the gardening service is included, and it's a private house, so not like the gardener has anywhere else to go by my house. Other places I've lived, if the landlord paid for any utilities at all, it was just water and trash, and sometimes heat. Other times I've paid for all the utilities, and that's fine with me, as long as it's made clear upfront. In fact, when I first asked the landlord to make sure all utilities are included, he said that I only have to pay for phone, cable, and internet if I want them. He (verbally) made no mention that I would have to pay for trash, and unless he's under the impression that trash collection is an optional service then I think that was really misleading. Why be rude to me? I already admitted that I hadn't read the lease carefully. But I still don't think I'm a moron for missing "trash" when every other basic service was on there. o_0Oh, and I realize it was a long post, but if you read it you'll also see that I said that I'm suing him for not refunding my security deposit, which I'm certainly entitled to. He has my forwarding address, phone number, email, and anyway my mail from that address is forwarding to my new one, so it's not as though he couldn't get it to me. He won't return any of my calls or respond to any of my letters. I'm at the very least entitled to an explanation of why I haven't seen a cent of my security deposit, when I left the house in better condition than when I moved in. The reason the trash thing is annoying is that I was already paying more than the place was worth, for the convenience of having all my utilities included in the rent. Having this extra one really threw me off. $30 a month is a lot for me.I checked my city's official website, and trash and recycling ARE considered utilities, along with water and sewer (which the landlord pays). more
