Now Answers to Advertising Lines Questions
Open Question: Broadband speed only 10% of what is advertised?
I have recently signed upto Sky Broadband with the anticipation of getting a fast-ish broadband connection speed. I waited the usual 10 days after connection to allow the line testing etc to be done and then ran several speed test through different sites. They all gave me a download speed of 2.7MB. I spoke at length with Sky Customer Services who asked me the usual questions: Are you using the master socket in your house - Yes! Do you have anything else plugged into the phone socket - No! Are you far from the phone exchange - No, less than 1km! They then told me that the exchange will allow a maximum of 3MB and that is the maximum amount I will ever get. Does anyone know if this is so with various exchanges, or can BT lift any capping to allow higher speeds? I appreciate that Sky advertise 'UPTO' 20Meg, but one would hope for at least a 3rd of that or a bit more, not 10%!!! Surely a pre-run should be established prior to contract signing to determine the available max speed?Aha - neaonbhb, think you've hit the nail on the head there, never ever noticed the difference in upper and lower case 'b's. I remember from my computer studies days back in the early 80s about bits and bytes, that makes perfect sense now - how bloody crafty!!! Thank you for pointing that out :)Thank you everyone too for your answers, especially sewrobb for your very detail explanation. Regards to you all. moreOpen Question: What is the most suitable thing to do?
My idea is building an online delivery company to deliver food products to people. Moreover, nobody here does that kind of service. Everything is online except having cars and some employees for delivery. Do you think that i can generate a lot of money by online advertising if my website is very popular (aside from the delivery service) or do you think that time is out for new generations to start making money on the web. Because of the freaking amounts of people that are in many online businesses. I really want to know how things really work. Because most of youngsters that made it big, were involved in online activities. So i think too much between the both. But first i want to concentrate on my delivery business, but want to learn how can i make it proper. Like how can i sell it to big organisations. And how do you find your experience with the web. Because i don't want to blog or affiliate, i want to do something i love and turn it to profits. Bottom line is how to use the internet to make it really BIG??? moreVoting Question: Hi there, I would like to know what my rights are concerning a vehicle that I bought It was bough on ebay,?
I have bought a jeep on line (ebay), good mileage, new tires, and an mot. It was advertised with a knock at certain speeds (rpm), I was a bit hesitant but when I saw the mot was for one year and the seller was a trade dealer with good rating, I was pretty happy it was an ok car to bid on. I won with a price just over £1000 and was happy with the jeep when I picked it up. The knock was non existent except when my foot hit the pedal hard! It drove well, and had some nice power. I was totally happy. My wife and I went for a nice drive in the country the next weekend, but the motor started really knocking. I have owned this vehicle for 3 weeks and driven it a grand total of 2 hours, am gutted. I have taken it to the shop to investigate whats going on but I would like to know if I am able to ask for the costs of repairs to be covered by the seller (Trade dealer) or return the car to this dealer. Thanks Dave moreResolved Question: I see that bt are increasing their prices. do you think they are out and out fraudsters?
the quarterly line rental is going up £1-50p a quarter. the charges for calls by 10%. If you pay quarterly they charge you £4-50 extra. If by some mistake like being on holiday when the bill arrives and you dont pay within 10 days well thats another £7-50p on top. They have been advertising how cheap it is with bt over the last 3 months and have probably reeled in an extra 300,000 customers over the that period knowing full well what they were going to do. would you sooner trust a snake in the grass than bt.guy on the other hand they put in 1 telegraph pole in an estate took 20 lines from it charge each customer £120 a year line rental for last 50 years thats £120,000 and it probably cost them £50 to erect. moreResolved Question: I applied on line for a credit card but why do they?

Words of writer from Holand. All places have your positive points and negatives, but in outside they maximize the positive points. However in Brazil they maximize the negative points. Here in Holand, the results of election take far time, because don´t have nothing automated. Have only one telephony company and: if you call complaining about service , your telephone can be temporarily disconected. In United States and Europe, nobody have habit of rolling the sandwich in a napkin, or wash the hands before eat. In bakeries, fairs and butchers of Europe, the attendants receive the money and with same dirty hand give bread or meat. In London, there is a famous place that sell fried potato wrapped in newspaper-and have many people in door. In Europe, no-smoking are minority. If you ask for no-smoking table, the waiter laughs in your face, because not exists. They smoking until in elevator. In Paris, the waiters are know for your bad humor and grossness and any waiter of pub of Brazil can go there to give class of "How to conquer a costumer". Something along the lines of these -- http://www.puertobanusguide.com/director… Either a swinging club, escort agency or adult video production (or all three) What would be the best way to build the membership of a swinging club ? How would I start an escort agency in the area ? and the best way to advertise ? Other ideas are adult video production where the guys pay for participation in 4-6 hour shoots and the pooled sum pays the girls fees. I checked into a hotel on a business trip and I was a bit lonely so I thought I'd get me one of those girls you see advertised in phone booths. I got one called Erogeonique, lovely girl, bending over in the photo, beautiful. So I pick up the card and I call the number. "Hello?" the woman says. Want Ad: Gynecologist's Assistant A retired man went into the Job Center in Downtown Denver, and saw a card advertising for a Gynecologist's Assistant. You have to help the women out of their underwear, lay them down and carefully wash their private regions, then apply shaving foam and gently shave off the hair, then rub in soothing oils so they're ready for the gynecologist's examination." "The annual salary is $65,000, and you'll have to go to Billings , MT , that's about 550 miles from here." "Good grief, is that where the job is?" I've had a very nice idea for a website which opens a very good opportunity to advertise maps for sale. Would I be better off using an affiliate method via Amazon or Google? I COULD go directly to an on-line retailer as my website will utilise pay-per-click payment via PayPal anyway so should I stick with this & cut out the middleman? Does anyone know what rates Amazon or Google pay? Can you trust them to give you a real percentage of sales? (WHAT ARE THEY?) More importantly, how can you know what sales you've generated for sure? moreResolved Question: Where is the line drawn with product placement in the UK?
To explain my question, in the UK there's rules to product placement in TV. For example a character in 'EastEnders' couldn't guzzle a can on Red Bull. In 'Coronation Street' nobody shops at Tesco (always the fictional supermarket). But, then again there's freedom for people to drive round an array of cars. I mean, if a brand new Mercedes-Benz in featured on TV, then that's product placement, isn't it? And in sports, there's brand logos around the side of the pitch (in the case of football) and logos behind players when doing interviews. Perhaps someone working in advertising would be able to tell me. So, if anyway understand how it works and cares to explain, please do! Thanks in advance! moreVoting Question: Seen UK top 5 broadband rip-offs? & how best to deal with 'em? What do you think is the best deal? How 2 beat?
I put this in Politics as Govt promise to roll out superfast broadband Is there a corrupt angle? UK's top broadband rip-offs, together with a few ideas on how you can combat them. 1) Super-fast broadband You might think super-fast broadband sounds amazing. Lightning-fast deals via next-generation fibre technology allow you to surf the net at more than 5 times the usual speed (50Mb). Unfortunately, however, super-fast broadband generally comes with a much higher price tag than packages with standard connection speeds. And I think, at £40 a month, providers are ripping us off - especially when you take into account a 8Mb package with a 10GB usage limit can cost less than £6 a month. The fact is, unless you need faster speeds for things like watching internet TV or downloading HD movies regularly, these packages probably have far greater capability than you really need. If you're not a heavy user, paying the higher monthly cost is a waste of money, frankly. 2) Restrictions on download limits Many broadband providers boast of unlimited download limits, only to accompany these bold statements with a little asterisk which, on closer inspection directs you to a fair use policy that restricts the amount you can actually download. Fair use policies are often a get out of jail free card for providers which advertise unlimited download limits, only to impose penalties or other restrictions if you exceed a certain threshold. And, to make things even more complicated, finding out about your own download habits can sometimes feel like trying to break into Fort Knox. For example, when I called my own provider to ask them about my usage, I was only told that I ‘need not worry'. This ambiguous phrasing may make little difference in my case, but in some circumstances you'll only realise you've exceeded your fair usage limit when you get a warning from your provider – or worse, when a hefty bill lands on your doormat. If you want to gauge your surfing habits, this data usage calculator from Virgin is a nifty tool which will give you an idea of your own monthly usage, which you can then use to get the best plan for you. Alternatively, providers Be and O2 offer super-fast broadband with truly unlimited download limits. 3) Broadband without a landline. If you move into a property without a BT landline in place, it will cost you £124.99 to connect yourself to the outside world, plus £10.50 a month in line rental, unless you commit to an 18-month contract. If you don't fancy forking out all this just to get connected, one alternative is Virgin media which, providing you live in a cabled area, will connect you without the need for a BT line (£30 connection fee applies). In addition, some providers such as Tiscali make use of local loop unbundling (LLU) to bypass BT and offer inclusive line rental. LLU enables ‘local loops' (or put simply, the cable through which you receive your broadband) to be freed up so other providers can design their own broadband packages to provide alternative, and often cheaper services. The third way you can get connected to the internet without the need for a BT landline is via a dongle . Dongles provide a convenient way of getting online, though from experience provide much slower download speeds than conventional broadband. Check out my latest article on dongles . 4) Tag on the line This is one of the sneakiest ways broadband providers can stop you from switching easily. They put what's known as a 'tag' on your line, which is difficult to remove. When you run into trouble, they often point the finger at your landline provider, who then points the finger back at the broadband provider, and so on. What many people don't realise is that you have to talk to the provider you want to switch to and ask them to remove it. Luckily, Broadband Choices offers a handy list of numbers on its website to contact with regards to having a tag on your line. 5) Long contract terms Last but not least, contract lengths for broadband, and indeed your mobile phone are slowly creeping up, and these days you'll often have to sign an 18 and sometimes a 24 month contract in order to secure the best deals. However, there is light at the end of the broadband tunnel, and if you don't want to be tied into a lengthy contract, you could always opt for a provider which doesn't impose one. For example, you can now get one-month only contracts from providers like Plusnet and Zen, which enable you to switch at any time. Obviously, your broadband service is unlikely to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time, but hopefully these small tips will help you on your way to a smoother surfing experience. Basically we're on an ADSL 8Mb tariff, but at best get 5Mb (and our speed decreases during the evening presumably because of other people in the village on the same line). I understand that nobody ever gets the maximum advertised speed, but am wondering if upgrading to a faster tariff would improve my speed even at times when the line is bottlenecked? Or if I'm on at times when my speed usually slows to 1Mb would that always be the case regardless of whether I'm on a 8Mb or 20Mb tariff? Thanks guys! :-) moreResolved Question: Excel problem.....any suggestions welcome?
I have a line graph that I have been plotting for a few years in Excel and an annoying problem has developed. Every week I note down: total clicks on my website, those that were via Google Adwords, those from 'natural' results, cost of advertising etc and I plot this against the week number. So I have week number (W1, W2 to W52 and restarting etc) on the horizontal axis and the quantity on the vertical axis. This gives me a visual overview of trends. In Week 34 (We are in W42 now) the main line (total clicks) stopped plotting. The other lines (cost, Adword impressions, clicks etc) have continued as always. I cannot see any cause for this.!! Any thoughts? Anyone had something similar? moreResolved Question: Does anyone know a company in Dundee called "Woosh"?

I recently bought and fitted a bath mixer that was advertised as good for low pressure systems. The bath is now on a much much slower fill than before. It takes 15 mins to fill. HOUSE ADDRESS............. STATE............................ CITY............................... POST CODE....................... LAND LINE...................... MOBILE LINE................... NEAREST AIRPORT TO YOUR HOME......... As soon as i receive these details, then i promise you i will start processing the transfer of ownership document to your names and address so as to certify your full ownership of the puppy, there after i will contact the Courier Service and drop your details alongside with the puppy and papers at the delivery agency for registration of delivery to your home ok.The courier service will then contact after the registration via email and phone for you to confirm your home address, then they will direct you how to make total payment of £160 for the delivery since you will be paying directly to them. After you have confirmed your address and made the payment they will provide you with the registration tracking details and schedule so that you can know the the delivery status of your puppy and arrival time of the puppy at your door steps ok,So just get back to me now with the details so that i can get along with the necessary arrangements . i will be waiting to read from you soon! Thanks and Best Regards i also would never want my puppy to be sent as some form of package!, anyway i hope ive got the message across to you now...if anyone kn ow where i can find a dalmatian puppy in london without delivery charge!! lol, do please let me know it dont need to be in london im willing to travel..tho perhapsaps not to scotland!!!!if its an old scam to you dont read it then and dont comment!! it was new to me tho i knew of scams i never came across one, thank you to all the ppl with constructive advise much appreciated, it seems ppl must have lots of time on their hands to read 'old scams' then decided to comment! moreResolved Question: If on a secondment & your 'old' contract is lost should i be given opportunity to TUPE?
I was asked to set up a contract as a secondment in August I went on holiday in October and when I returned in November my existing role had been transferred to competitor. I was not consulted during this time. Once I spoke to HR I was told I would probably get transferred to the new contract, this happened in November but I wasn't given a job description/role. I asked HR why I hadn't been TUPE as I would have gone to the other company as a role at my level couldn't be guaranteed. I was given no explanation I have since been given a role in Dec but this is a complete demotion. I spoke to HR and told them I could only work normal office hours. (unless infrequently overtime was called for which was expected in my other role as a manager) Again HR said this was fine. When I complained to HR that a role on 'my level' was given to a 'lesser candidate' I was told it would be looked into. (This role was not advertised and I can demonstrate I am a stronger candidate) I am now expected to work different hours (evenings) which I am unable to do and have spoken to my direct line manager and the one above him but I have got nowhere. I was a manager and now a working supervisor. A complete role change and hour change What on earth do I do?Thanks Everyone else on the contract was TUPE transfered accross to the new company. Whilst on a secondment my role was been 'caretaken' by another manager. The company I work for won a new contract and I was asked to set up the NE division on a temp secondment. With the intention of going back to my old role once the new contract was set up. I have been with the company for 18months. They have not reduced my pay. They have demoted my title/resposibilities. Whilst not changing my hours through consultation the role can not be completed unless I work evenings. As a manager I worked core office hours with some overtime (not more that 5 times in 18 months) as a supervisor they want me to carpet clean on evenings & out of hours work. When offered the role I was told I would not have to work evenings. Also out of interested does a role have to be advertised or can it be given to someone? Even if this individual has no previous experience at the role Many thanks for your help. moreResolved Question: Help with Train Fares?

There are posters in the train station advertising a return from £40. But on the websites I've seen tickets been sold from anywhere between £11 and £158 !?! Does anybody know how the hell I judge those things or work them out, I dont understand the booking in advance thing, but I dont think I could afford to buy them on the day if theyre gonna fob me off £158 Any help would be greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: I want to start selling footwear on line need help to start?

To those of you who watched CSI New York on channel Five yesterday (Friday 23/1/10), did you notice there seemed to be visible clues that didn't seem to be incorporated in the plot line. On the first compass when the scratched out engraving was revealed, there was further writing underneath? At the site of the second murder when the shoe-prints were being photographed there was writing in the soil that wasn't part of the shoe-print? Did you see it, Is this some clues for a future competition or failed subliminal advertising? moreResolved Question: Jobcentre question "found a job through job centre, been told there is a lump sum they give you"?
Morning all i was on JSA and yesterday i had an interview and got a job yay lol, the job was advertised through the Job Centre. I had been told that if you apply for a job through the Job Centre and it was successul, the Job Centre gives you a sum of money as you was on JSA and found the job through them. My girlfriend was in the same situation and she got a lump sum as she found the job through them. She got along the lines of about £150 - £200. She cant remember what it was called though as it was nearly 2 years ago. Is anyone out there in the same position or have been or knows whats what. Sorry if this gets a bit long-winded, but I really find this quite shocking: I have here the top google hit for asking the question: 'Are black people at a lower risk of skin cancer?' It also happens to be Cancer Research UK's Website - Cancerhelp.org. The link is to their 'Risks and Causes' page, the one that flagged up as the first google hit for the above question. Their only reference to black people is under the 'Who is most at risk' section and even then only in one sentence in one paragraph! This seems to be a fairly comprehensive page, covering everything from age, family history and other ilnesses, to chemicals, smoking and radiation exposure! - Each of which has their own section! The worst has yet to come... The single sentence that refers to black people on the 'Risks and Causes' page of Cancer Research UK's website (one of, if not THE top cancer charity/research organisation in the UK) is: "Black skinned people are less likely to get skin cancer, but they can be at risk on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands." I was shocked (to say the least) at reading this, bearing in mind where I had read it and the fact that I had been looking for a sensible and informative answer. I guess you could pull from it that black people are at less risk of skin cancer and from reading the rest of the page you could probably work out why, but if you were to take them at their word? What, should black people try to always wear gloves and socks in times of high exposure? I think not. Somehow I couldn't see it selling in Africa, especially if it was coming from a white person, as I suspect, (just by reading that sentence) that this article is. That said, I find it very hard to imagine how they could sunburn their hands and bottoms of their feet, other than laying on their backs with their hands and feet in the air?! Lol. So, Black people of the United Kingdom, Cancer Research Uk's top advice to you is: Don't have sex in intense sunshine and if you do, be sure to wear gloves and socks at all times! The link is below if you want to see it for yourselves. http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/type/skin-cancer/about/skin-cancer-risks-and-causes Also, besides all the joking there seems to be a more serious point. The 7'th Google hit for the same question was a page on skin cancer from brownskin.net, which, as the name suggests is a site written by and for black people and is largely about skin. Alarmingly, this page states quite clearly that black people have a false sense of security regarding the risk of skin cancer and that whilst the amount of black people who contract skin cancer is lower overall, the mortality rate is in fact higher! I believe this is an American site, but it certainly sounds believable. Given C' R' UK's "advice" on the subject is so flimsy and I would say perhaps even a little insulting. Especially so, when that sketchy/insulting advice directly contradicts the advice of a 'black skin' website? Again, the link if you wish to see it yourselves. www.brownskin.net/cancer.htm I find it really quite alarming that this seems to be such a grey area, when today in 2010, a good % of our population is not white. My original question was going to be 'are black people less at risk...' but I think as I've gone on the question is perhaps more appropriate if along the lines of: Is there a massive oversight on the part of the leading cancer awareness organisations in the UK and possibly the rest of the world? And could, or even should, more be done to raise awareness amongst black people and advertise that whilst they may be at less risk of being damaged by the Sun's UV rays, they are at a high risk of mis-diagnosis or un-awareness that they are vulnerable? I'm not trying to stir an arguament, or say anything intended to offend anyone, I have genuine concerns about this (potential) issue. I am looking forward to hearing some interesting and informative answers. Please, if you don't have anything sensible to say, keep it to yourself. Thanks.Update: I still have no answer. My question was, in simple terms, 'should more be done to educate black people on skin cancer, seeing as the 'black skin' website I read seemed to think that black people have a "false sense of security" & higher mortality rate. I genuinely wondered this, and when I tried to research it I found vague & contradicting information. Since Cancer Research uk have such little to say on the matter, I put it (again) that could/should more be done to raise awareness amongst black people? -That whilst yes, they are at less risk of being damaged in the first place, but does that very fact mean that they are at a higher risk of fatality or mis-diagnosis? I never disputed that their skin is less likely to burn or contract skin cancer, but it seriously worries me that there is not more information. Perhaps "Black people are at less risk of having their skin damaged by the sun, but EVERYONE should address any suspicions with the same urgency and importance. Also, Im not racist, not in the slightest. I'd have thought that anyone with any degree of intelligence would see that my question is regarding the health & well-being of black people. Quite how one could derive racist sentiments from this, I cannot understand. There are some truly narrow-minded people in the world. It saddens me greatly, that today in 2010 one cannot open a topic regarding skin colour (no-matter how sensitively/carefully they word it!) without being 'branded' by two or three others as a racist! It makes me sick. I echo my sentiments from before: If you don't have anything sensible to say, spare us it. I would have thought that in such a diverse society, people could discuss each other's colour freely, perhaps I was mistaken. Do you really think id have spent half my evening writing a question, to have a discreet racial dig or spark an arguament? You are hugely mistaken, I thought I made my intentions clear from the off. I'm still looking for an answer though. K moreResolved Question: What is this advert...?
Ok, I watched an advert where 2 guys are sitting at a table in an empty room. Behind them is a board which has a very long and complicated equation written on it in a black marker. One guy stands up and walks out of the room and when he does the other guy gets up and changes a minus sign in the equation to a plus sign. He then sits back down and waits for the 1st guy to return, who notices straight away that something is wrong! I was telling one of my friends and she hasn't seen it yet, but i can't for the life of me remember what it was advertising. Catch line at the end was something like, our humour is different to yours. Can anybody help me find it??? moreResolved Question: I'm thinking about setting up a t shirt business...Few Questions...?
Right, this idea has been playing on me for a while, i'm a big photoshop user and come up with some great designs, i also have hand drawn images thrown my way to use every so often. My idea is to set up a T shirt printing business but selling my own stock of t shirts and hooded tops (zip up and pullover) and on the side line doing custom orders. Heat Transfer, Vinyl Printing and Screen Printing...Which one is best, for business? Also saying buy whole stock i buy a t shirt at £1.00 would selling them for £15.00 each be ok? and buying a hodded top for 3.50 and selling them for £18.00 is that a good price? I know i will need some capital to buy stock and printing equipment as well as setting up a website. I do have a long term plan which includes a lot of promoting incl' Car shows, fashion shows, word of mouth, leaflets also self advertising ( wearing a t shirt which company contact info ) as well as having my car carrying signs about the company. My ideal annual turnover is £248.725 with the wholesale costs, promoting costs, web hosting and printing costs deducted. How come tax would be taking off? I would be proposing this idea towards a family member who runs multiple businesses and might be interested in this venture. also more costs that i need to take into account please let me know :) moreResolved Question: If applying for a job in France...?

Thank you and merry xmas and a prosperous new year!?
In this questionnaire you are presented with a series of situations that are encountered by Sainsbury's Trainee Managers in their day-to-day work. For each of the situations your task is to read the description and the four options for dealing with that situation. You then need to rank the options in line with what you feel is the best course of action to take first in the situation. (Rank each action from '1'=Best Choice; to '4'=Worst Choice). When reviewing the options in each situation, you may feel that there is more than one suitable answer. Remember that you should always choose the option you feel would be the best course of action to take first in the situation. As this questionnaire only concerns how you would personally react in certain situations, not how well you know Sainsbury's, please disregard any prior knowledge you have relating to Sainsbury's standard policy and procedures when answering each question. This questionnaire should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. While there is no time limit, we recommend that you avoid spending too much time considering each question. Please ensure you allow enough time to complete the questionnaire in one sitting - it is not possible to save your responses unless you complete all of the questions. Finally, we recommend that you complete the questionnaire in a quiet area where you will not be disturbed. You are a Trainee Manager on the Sainsbury's 'Trainee Manager Scheme'. Hi, I bought a camcorder from a currys in my local town (nightmare to park! costs a fortune), which is soon shutting down. I only bought it from there because the other currys in my town (in an industrial estate with free parking/easy access) didn't have what I wanted in stock. I bought it last weekend, can I take it back to ANY currys store, or does it have to be taken back to the exact store I bought it from? I have already phoned the customer service phone line, and as usual no one seems to know their own job anymore. It's got a dead/stuck/hot pixel, and I am NOT happy. I was NOT made aware of this when purchasing it, and it says nothing about it in the manual. Also under the 'The Sale of Goods Act 1979' that products bought should be: As described - refers to any advert or verbal description made by the trader. Satisfactory quality - covers minor and cosmetic defects as well as substantial problems. It also means that products must last a reasonable time. But it doesn't give you any rights if a fault was obvious or pointed out to you at point of sale. I was NOT made aware at time of purchase that camcorders often have a pixel problem, so I see this as false advertising and I want my money back, if camcorders are known to have a pixel or two missing/stuck then why was I not told this at time of purchase. (I put all this extra crap info in because I know there is always some smart bum who will go on about it, even though that wasn't the original question!). Thank you. PS, the reviews online for currys are pretty poor, most people saying they refuse to refund/exchange even though it states on the back of the receipt: If the product is faulty within the first 28 days you are entitled to a refund or exchange. If a fault occurs any time after that period, you are entitled to have the product repaired.Hi, thank you both for your replies so far. bouncer bobtail, you said 'Curry's will repackage it and sell it as new to some other poor sap.' and it's funny you should say that. Because went into the shop to get it for me, I noticed once she got in the car that there was no seal on the box at all, I always thought electrical goods were sealed? So now I am wondering if someone had already had it/tampered with it before me! I am going back to Currys tomorrow with my mum. My mum tried taking it back to the original store today, and the ignorant bloke refused there was a dead/hot/stuck pixel and refused to refund, he made my mum feel so small she had to leave the shop. more
