Open Question: Any ideas how to popularise my online game?

I've created an online caption game - www.captionthat.com I admit it isn't perfect, but people do come on occasionally and play a game. The problem is that it needs 3 or (preferably) more people at a time to play. It gets the odd visitor or two (I think around 5 or 6 per day is the norm), but for people to play and enjoy it, it really needs to have at least 4 people in the game at one time, which isn't going to happen at rate of less than 100 people per day, for example. Does anybody have any ideas how to increase traffic to the site (preferably other than paid advertising). I just feel that if more people visited the site, more people would play and enjoy the game. Thanks in advance. more

Open Question: question about jewish etiquette and culture?

the first thing i would like to make clear here is i am not jewish so i am not sure if the rules of the situation below applies to me if a shop has separate opening times advertised for men and women where men have allocated times as do the women as i am not jewish am i expected to follow these rules ie if i went in during the times for women would they tell me to come back later or refuse to serve me my reason for asking is i don't want to cause offense and as i am not jewish do the rules apply to me as long as i don't try chatting the girls up to much or touching them in anyway my other question is pardon the bluntness why is it at times jewish people stick themselves in the most inconvenient place. for example at times the jewish mothers seem to stop in the middle of the street and talk or put the push chairs right in the middle of an aisle and either leave the children their while shopping or have a conversation without thought for others, and while i was walking home a couple of jewish boys seem to be hanging round the doorway of a local store leaving me thinking why stand around looking at others and blocking the door i apologize if i have been to blunt or ignorant more

Open Question: Do I need a product liabilty insurance?

I have 3 questions, This link shows the kind of product I am involved with, this is NOT my site however. I make dog snoods like this, package and advertise them and plan to distribute amongst my local vet surgeries and dog grooming parlours. My product is just in the same category as other clothing for animals. 1)Do I need to have product liabilty insurance? 2)Also do I have to have a label on my product which states what material is used to make it? 3) Do I need to have a warning on my product to say 'This is not a toy' or 'Do not allow dog to ingest' The product is all material and elastic. Surely it is down tot he owner of the dog t be aware that these things should not be eaten. Is it possible for me the manufacturer to be sued if a dog has digestion problems for example if the product is chewed.?http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.b3ta.com/images/features/dogs-in-snoods/snood4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.b3ta.com/features/dogs-in-snoods/&h=303&w=378&sz=39&tbnid=2doIuaaYNWNDmM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=122&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsnoods%2Bfor%2Bdogs&usg=__-IqdC3n6FD__CKN2XYNhcIa7ILE=&ei=hKBgS7LHJdS7jAfVsa3pCg&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=8&ct=image&ved=0CCkQ9QEwBw more

Open Question: Help with Copyright Issues?

I'm an advertising fine arts student. For our thesis, we had to use existing concepts in our creatives. For example, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Resident Evil, etc. On February, we will hold an exhibit to showcase the artworks. All our ideas are purely hypothetical and we have not used the concepts and images to make any profit whatsoever. Could we possibly get in trouble for this? Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Do drugs no longer work due to a patent deficiency?

More than 100 years ago doctors were getting excellent results treating many conditions using plants (herbs). However, herbs are not patentable because they are already present in the food supply. Companies found that if they could isolate or create compounds, like aspirin, they could patent them. Patents gave the companies exlusive marketing rights for their compounds. The more people bought the products, the more the companies could spend on advertising. Thus, people were hearing more and more about the products, not necessarily because they were better but because they were patentable. Other companies could advertise herbal products, but since other companies could also compete by providing the unpatented herbs, the advertising might not pay for itself and could quickly die out. This is how people can hear so much about treatments that don't always help very much, and hear practically nothing about treatments that often work fantastically well. It began 100 years ago and it continues today. The energy behind how much people hear about a treatment is often not how well it works but whether or not it is patentable, exclusive, or profitable. It's easy to assume that "If this works as well as all that everyone would know about it." But the more accurate statement might be, "If this treatment approach were patentable, everyone would know about it." The introduction of patented medicines changed the complexion of medical science completely. There is a saying that says that the practice of medicine changes every 17 years. Why 17 years? Because that's how long it takes before a patent runs out. One drug might be recommended for years and years as an excellent treatment, but once its patent runs out and it can be made by generic companies, suddenly its no longer promoted at all. Did the drug suddenly become less effective than it had been for years? No, the effectiveness of the drug remained exactly the same, it's the patent that ran out. Thus, not only can effective herbal treatments be forgotten and overlooked, but so can out-of-patent medicines. Dilantin is a good example of a drug that some feel has many wonderful uses but that is no longer emphasized very much in research or schools (the effects of being out of patent). Isn't it interesting to think that what treatments are recommended may have a lot more to do with patent law and a lot less with what actually helps patients? Where are doctors in all this? Are doctors involved in some kind of conspiracy to promote patented medicine? Most doctors aren't. It's just that patents make advertising possible, which makes profits possible, which pays for research, which strengthens schools. And research strengthens the use of patented medicines. The doctors of today are taught by doctors, who were taught by doctors, who were taught by doctors who took an interest in researching and prescribing patented medicines. As the first doctors trained the next "generation" they may have focused more on patented medicines and less on the alternatives. It would only take one or more generations of training for the mention of herbs or other alternatives to be wiped out almost completely. Today, doctors can go all the way through their training and never even hear of treatments that worked extremely well over 100 years ago that still work fabulously well today. And it's not because the treatments don't work, but because they're not patentable (and even if they were, they'd probably only be emphasized for 17 years). more

Open Question: CONTRACTS......example?

Betty is retired and works on antique cars as a hobby, sometimes working on those belonging to others, and sometimes on cars that she purchases and restores for resale. Betty has a 1965 Ford Mustang on which she has completed the mechanical and exterior restoration. She has not yet begun the restoration of the interior, which needs a lot of work. Betty needs some money quickly so she advertises the Mustang for $13,000. Bob looks at it and enters into a written contract at $12,500. Resolved Question: Anybody else having any trouble with the recent supreme court ruling?

Without any financial restrictions, it would appear that a corporation (or any other well funded agency) could now conceivably buy up all or most of the air space available to advertise their political candidate. Just a few such examples of monumental funding would seem to send a rather ominous message to other candidates not in line with corporate interests. This seems like a convoluted waste of money. Perhaps we should just knock out the middle man, and have corporation do the voting during an election.Kyle- I do not hate corporations. They are essential, but they are not guided by a desire to do the "right thing". There goal (as it is should be) is simply to make a profit. I would have the same objection to a billionaire who would have to power to drown out everybody elses "free speech".Splitter- I disagree, I don't believe corporations are made up of people. Corporations are their own entity with just one purpose. Corporations control people much more than people control corporations.Time to Shrug- I sincerly hope you are right, but it seems harder and harder to distinguish between the signal and the noise we hear everyday.Titou- I read your question. Resolved Question: Adding website banners to 1000+ pages at once.?

With my website www.non-stop-shop.com, it's a website shopping directory, where I advertise companies worldwide by placing there website banners under the areas that they are based at as well as the categories they request also. Though the main problem I have at the moment is with companies who want to get placed under 1000+ different pages of my 9,000 paged website, as their company is based in 1000 different locations, take The National Lottery for example, I am placing them under 8,500 pages on my website, but I only know the way on adding their website banner to one page at a time. That's why I'm looking for information as to whether its possible to add their HMTL banner to thousands of pages at once. For example Sainsburys, create a HTML page for their superstore and add all of the locations they are based at under their HTML private page, then once that is done select all of the locations I have placed under the HTML page then add their website banner to all those pages at once. If there is a way of doing this, I would be very grateful for all the help I can get, as there is currently M&S, B&Q, Asda, Sainsburys, The National Lottery, Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy and lots more big well known businesses that are wanting to get advertised under all of the areas they are located. Where with Non-Stop-Shop having near enough every village, town, city and county around England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland, The Isle of Wight, The Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and even all the other countries that are based around the rest of the world where people can place the website banners under. That way all the members of the public have to do when they visit Non-Stop-Shop is click on the banner of their choice and automatically transfer to that website of their choice to do a Non-Stop-Shop. I look forward to hearing from you. more

Resolved Question: Are conservative Supreme Court justices now "activist judges" by overruling 100 years of precedent?

I thought this summed it up pretty well... What do you think.....are the conservative justices guilty of being "activist" judges in this case?? http://www.politico.com/arena/bio/david_mark.html J. Gerald Hebert, Campaign Legal Center Executive Director Today's decision from the Supreme Court is an extreme example of judicial overreach that arbitrarily overturns decades of precedent and undercuts the powers of the legislative branch. What the Supreme Court majority did today was empower corporations to use their enormous wealth and urge the election or defeat of federal candidates, and in doing so, buy even more power over the legislative process and government decision making. As a result of this decision, for profit corporations and industries will be able to threaten members of Congress with negative ads if they vote against corporate interests, and to spend tens of millions on campaign ads to "punish" those who do not knuckle under to their lobbying threats. More than a century's worth of federal and state policy restricting corporate campaign activity in federal elections has been undermined by the Court today, to say nothing of the longstanding precedent upholding those laws against myriad challenges. Most irresponsibly, the narrow Court majority chose to take this radical step without even the benefit of a record from the lower courts, and in a case where there were several opportunities to decide the issues without over-turning Acts of Congress. This case has all the hallmarks of the very judicial activism that conservatives usually criticize. Lacking an even vaguely authoritative set of facts in the case, the Court chose to act not upon relevant facts in a fully developed record, but rather based on its gut instinct in a gesture of disturbing condescension toward Congress and the American people. In this case five Justices have decided to assume the role of legislators, and to actively reach out to decide matters better left to the expertise of Congress. http://www.campaignlegalcenter.org/about.html The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization which works in the areas of campaign finance and elections, political communication and government ethics. The Legal Center offers nonpartisan analyses of issues and represents the public interest in administrative, legislative and legal proceedings. Resolved Question: What do I do in this situation?

So my parents are like opposites. My mother is a major workaholic and her definition of fun is cleaning the house and getting a raise. My father is a fun-aholic, and he gets real mad when my mom says he should stay home when he wants to go golfing or whatever and work. See, my father is his own stay-at-home boss (he's an engineer), and he gets jobs for people and he does them. Since there are no set hours, he feels he can take a break whenever. My mother works at home too (it's life insurance or something), but she travels out of the city a lot, but usually only for about a day. She works on major commission, so since the economy hasn't been doing so well, neither has she. Lately with the economy, my parents have taken a major downturn. Apparently we're doing badly and now all my parents do is argue about what they should do. For example, my mom says for my dad to advertise his company and work more, whereas my dad says he should just enjoy life. They have been arguing a lot. Now I think my mom is in a mid-life depression or something because she just seems so sad. I don't want them to get a divorce (they've been married 20 years) but I don't know what to do! My whole life I've just been sitting back and watching, but now I really want to do something. I'm 12 by the way, and the oldest of 2 children, if that makes a difference. more

Resolved Question: Is it normal for a Cancer female to oppose everything?!?

I have a friend who's a Cancer female. She's a nice girl but I find talking to her to be difficult. It doesn't matter what I bring up - how safe it is, she has to disagree. For example, I stated that the media is getting hit because people are no longer advertising in the conventional ways, they're going toward YouTube and other forms of social media to communicate to the masses..she said "I disagree, blah blah". I'm in Marketing, I think I would know. On more mundane topics, I'll say some celebrity is really pretty and she'll say "oh I don't think so", or I'll say a celebrity is normal looking, not hot, etc. and she'll say, "oh I think she's really pretty". I can't win! During hot news stories when unions are striking for example, I'll comment on the disfunctionality of a union and she'll disagree and be in support of them..however, if I were to say the opposite, she would probably point out that they're pushing their limits. I don't think she's aware of how she comes across..the classic is when she's emotionally upset about how someone talked to her or treated her, but then turns around and defends someone's actions if I'm upset over what someone said to me or did of a similar nature (sometimes to support her, I'll say, yeah the same thing happened to me, blah blah, showing sympathy). I don't think it's just me, I believe she does this with her other friends too. Is this normal for a Cancer female? Her chinese sign is the Monkey..would it be that sign coming through perhaps instead? I thought Cancers were easier to get along with.Haha, I do tell her every so often that she looks pretty or is pretty and she states that she isn't (when she is) and has said, "I need plastic surgery!"..but in the past I've heard her defend herself and state "I think I'm fairly attractive"..lol more

Voting Question: Schedule C Deduction Questions?

Hi, I am filing business taxes for the first time and I have a few questions regarding the advertising deductions on a schedule C. My business is both internet based and I travel to craft fairs; all of my products are hand made. As such I had to make quite a few products to get the business going for show at the fair and to have pictures to post online. Are the expenses I incurred making these products tax deducible? As an advertising or some other expense? Or not since they're technically still in my inventory even though I'll never sell them (they are personalized with fake names as examples)? In addition to these products I've made another set of products just to take pictures of (to post online for my e-commerce store), and then gave them away. Can any of this be expensed? Also I bought tables, chairs, and various other equipment for my craft fair booth -- can any of this be expensed? Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Techniques for painting from scratch w/ photoshop?

Hello, I've been using photoshop for most of my life, and am skilled in using it for photo manipulations, advertising, etc. However, for my final in GD Photoshop, I need to do something I'm terrible at- create artwork from scratch ;-) Anyways, for the final I need to take a photograph of a landscape, cityscape, etc. and recreate it in photoshop. The photo will be physically in front of us, so I can't use exact size, colors, etc. So, do you have any techniques that I could use? For example, the creation of clouds, grass, water, etc. Note, I won't be able to use DLC such as custom brushes. Also, any ideas on a good photograph to use? It has to be some kind of scape (landscape, mountainscape, cityscape etc.) that isn't a sunset (no silhouettes) and preferably is more focused on vast colors rather than very tiny details. Any techniques or photo suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance! (repost due to wrong section) more

Resolved Question: What engineering job will make the most difference?

I'm an engineering major and an officer in a sustainable energy technology club and I want to know what job will make the most difference. For example, I've heard fuel cell vehicle technology would be a great alternative to gasoline vehicles, but due to the weak infrastructure for hydrogen fueling stations and FC vehicles, we'd be looking at high cost cars that won't be mainstream for at least another 30 years. I'm also a big fan of renewable energy sources (i.e. wind, solar, hydro, geo thermal, bio fuels), but the simple fact is that we're still going to be running off oil for quite a while. Not that I have anything against oil, it's a great energy dense resource that has been able to provide most of our modern day conveniences, but even oil companies are eventually going to have to resort toward using alternative sources of energy. Point is, I want to be in the field that will make the most difference in helping develop a more sustainable future. So would that be work in perhaps research, renewable energies, sustainable transportation, infrastructure, proper public advertising, politics, or what? more

Voting Question: PS2:GT4 Some cars have no specs, how to reveal?

Voting Question: My friend is mad because I'm not outgoing enough for her?

I'm not an outgoing person, and I'm not particularly sociable either. I mean, I can talk to people if I wanted to. IF I wanted to. I hate parties, I don't like going out most of the time, and I don't enjoy big groups of people. That's just my personality. I'm an introverted, quiet person, and I like it like that. (ps this doesn't mean i hate everyone or something like that) So I went to a friend's mexican sweet 15(don't know how to spell, pronounced kay-senyera), which of course, I really did not want to go at all. I mean, I really didn't. Anyway, since it was a special day, I faked on a smile the whole day and pretended like i was having a good time, which I wasn't at all. So today, our school advertised a winter formal dance, and they had a picture of the dance scene in Pride and Prejudice. My friend loves Mr.Darcy, so she asked me to go. I said "why?" and she said, "Well, my Mr.Darcy could be waiting for me!" I told her no(she knows i don't like parties) and she gets on about how we don't socialize as much as friends do, and how she always does things in my consideration. For example, if she asked me to go to a movie, and i said no, she wouldn't go out of my consideration(this is the example she used). And supposedly, I never do things out of her consideration. But I do, like, that sweet 15 party. I didn't have to go, you know. She also hogs my food even though she's had enough of whatever she ate, and I do tell her "hey, enough, ok?" but I give some to her anyway so she won't get mad. I also constantly put up with her whining, and pretend to be sympathetic, not to mention that I'm helped her through so many (useless) problems. She does do things for me, and I for her. She helped me buy a video game(i gave her the money and she drove to the store), and she went through a tough time with this guy and I was there for her. Is it wrong for me to get mad? To be honest, i didn't think she had to audacity to complain to me. more

Resolved Question: Are Veteran's tired of everyone saying they support Veteran's, but really don't?

I know I am. I just got out of the Army with an Honorable discharge and deployments to Iraq. I was excited looking through all the sites offering aid to Veteran's finding a job - at least until I realized that no one really cares about Veteran's. For example, most of the government agencies use USAJobs as the posting site for employment. USAJobs in and of itself claims to assist Veteran's. But a quick search only leads to about 95% of all jobs posted are in the GS 12-15 range. For these jobs, it is a requirement the applicant have 10 years experience and a Master's or Doctorate degree. Now that doesn't seem to me like helping Veteran's. It seems that they are helping people with Doctorate and Master's degrees. If anything, these people need less help than the normal Soldier. Now with my military experience, I also have a Bachelor's degree, and jobs before the military with relevant marketing, manager, etc experience. I live in Houston, the fourth largest city in America. When using my resume with my military added, I have yet to receive a single call-back. Using the same resume, but omitting my military experience, I get responses. People would rather respond to me with several years gap in my resume than they would looking at one with military experience. To me, no one really cares about Veteran's. Sometimes I wish I never joined in the first place. The worst part isn't not being able to find a job but seeing places like USAJobs claim to help so many people when they really should advertise that they are only catering to the already well-catered to. It may be hard to find a job with a Master's or Doctorate degree, I will give you that, but the largest portion of the military who are leaving don't have these degrees. They're too busy taking numerous tours of duty to Afghanistan or Iraq to get any education. What a scam. more

Resolved Question: Any place left in the world that's not media-saturated?

I'm thinking of a country where the prominence of mass media and advertising is very low, but there is still a functioning democratic society. Like 1920s America, for example. more

(2 points each) •Who would be the target audience of each activity? (2 points) •What would your message be for each target audience? Resolved Question: What should MY cover letter LOOK LIKE?

I am rebuilding my cover letter now that I have a year's experience in the writing field. I will be applying to a few local magazines and perhaps a few advertising agencies for a junior copywriting position. I know to include samples of my work. With my cover letter, what is the easier one for an employer to read or more preferred format? The basic 3-4 paragraph? Or the 2-3 paragraph that bullets my highlights? Thank you. Resolved Question: How do I make sure what TV shows aren't going to kill my sister's brain?

Well, when I first heard I was going to have a baby sister, I hated her. I hated the fact that she was coming for the whole pregnancy. Now I love her. :D Like my cousin says, "You hate the fact they're coming, but you love em' to death when they get there(she has 4 siblings". Anyways... So when my sister gets older and starts watching TV, how do I know which shows are going to mess up her brain or not? Like my teacher, for example. Her brother got her a Baby Einstein DVD, and she watched it first(to make sure it's OK and all). She sat through it with a stopwatch, and timed how long each little picture thing was(so maybe a full front of a ball would be xxx amount of time, and a side view of a ball would be xxx amount of time, etc). She found each little sequence to be about 10 seconds. She didn't let her kids watch it. She said that they assumed her child's attention span was 10 seconds, and they were reinforcing that(obliviously NOT a good thing). So, how can I tell whether a show will be detrimental to my sister's mental health? All answers except for stupid ones and ones advertising your own questions are welcome. Thanks!Oh! And I forgot, could somebody give me a link and/or list some shows that are shown to be bad for little children(please do not get silly with this and say things like CSI or something). more

Resolved Question: Can I stop people on live view seeing what I wrote on a friends wall? (facebook)?

This is a little complicated so please bare with me :) For example.. "Hello Emily how are you? " This will then appear on live view for I guess every single one of my friends to see. I don't mind people who see this by actually going on my friends page but is there anyway to stop it being advertised on live feed, so all my other friends don't know what I wrote? Is there a privacy setting I can use? Thanks and sorry if a little confusing :) more

Resolved Question: Is my iPod nano 5th generation battery defective?

I just got a new iPod nano (16GB) and I read on the Apple website that the battery is supposed to last 24 hours for audio, and 5 hours for video. However, the battery seems to last quite a bit less than that. For example, I'll play one of the games on there for about ten minutes, and when I exit the game, already the battery icon will have 1 pixel gone. Also, the battery only seems to last about 9 hours or so when I'm listening to music (I haven't measured it exactly, though). Is lower battery life than what is advertised common for the 5th generation nano? Or does this mean that my battery is defective? Also, if I send my iPod back to Apple, and they find that the battery is in fact defective, will they just replace the battery, or will they have to send me a whole new iPod? more

Resolved Question: What is a good website building software for beginners?

Me and two of my friends wrote a mini mockumentary series and are going to film it soon. At first we were just going to put it on facebook but then we thought that it would be easier to advertise if we just bought a website so we did. however i have no idea on website building. i'm looking for a good program for beginners but not too simple, so i can still make the site look semi-professional. all i need is a simple design that we can upload our videos onto and also have other things like blogs. also i am extremely tech savvy and want to use a good program and not something made for really simple stuff. for an example of what i would like my website to resemble google clark and michael. also theres no price limit more
