Voting Question: advertising can impede economic efficiency when it:?
enables firms to achieve substantial economies of scales increases entry barriers reduces brand loyalty increases consumer awareness of substitute products moreResolved Question: How are so many low class people becoming so rich?
FYI: I live in India. Please Note: I am neither Racist nor Casteist. But I am person with several genuine problems and absolute bewilderment. I am website designer, and I have extremely good communication skills. I rate myself as a very good at civic sense and social manner awareness. I am trying to run my small family (4, including myself) with the earnings out of my shoestring business. I am always polite to my clients, I make sure they are comfortable with every technical aspect of their website, I make sure the site is Standards Compliant for the client's sake, despite them not even knowing what W3C Standards are. I try to keep my prices as comfortable as possible, and relatively low. Yes, I am somewhat more expensive than the general market, but the cost of having an unruly, brutal joke of a messy website "design" is more than the price of owning a good website. Also, I never spit on the road, refuse to relieve myself on the pavements like so many other people do despite desperate urgency, always say "excuse me" before I do anything remotely assertive. I respect women, pay my taxes on time. Despite all this, I barely manage to scrape by, financially speaking. I am usually at the mercy of my landlord, and begging all the people I owe money to, to wait "just a few more days". Then, I get a small respite in the form of a new client or two, and I am forced to spend all the money on my commitments. This basically leaves no chance for me to improve upon my life, or the conditions therein. I am always stuck in this vicious cycle of debt and repayment. Add to my woes is the fact that we as a family have no source of support from our relatives, and hence zero investment capability; I can't even afford to advertise my services in the local newspaper classifieds. I am forced to rely on the poorly maintained and extremely unreliable public transport system, since I don't have a vehicle. Yet, I do try to work hard, against all odds. CONTRAST THIS WITH THE FOLLOWING: All I have to do is to take a short walk onto the main road, and I see multiple swanky cars on the road. In a majority of these expensive vehicles, there are people who are unruly, wear arrogant looks on their faces, and drive like shit. A lot of them don't look educated (you can tell the difference, though it sounds preposterous). They don't hesitate to pull down the window and spit copious paan onto the roads. They don't hesitate to open up their fly and start spewing on to the footpath, even in the presence of women on the road. They wear large chunky jewellery on their sweaty unhygienic bodies (trying to demonstrate their wealth), but display the social sense of a bacterium. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON! How is this happening? Will I ever succeed in life? Will I ever overtake these creatures? And pray tell me HOW _SO MANY_ of them are ending up so RICH! This is not a rare phenomenon anymore... so my curiosity... moreVoting Question: Does anyone know who puts the advertising leaflets along with the monthly credit card statements we receive?
From time to time, in our monthly statement envelopes we receive from our credit cards or from mortgage companies, there is a small double sided advertising leaflet size: 6”3/4 and 3”1/2. For example, last month I received in my mortgage statement, a leaflet that was selling me labels that I could personalize for envelopes. I am working for a small non-profit organization and we would want to use the media to bring awareness about our non-profit organization. We have contacted several credit card companies and the people we got on the phone have no clue about who puts the leaflets in the envelopes that are sent out. It could be that there is an outside company that is outsourcing the entire mailing process and they would also be the ones who include the advertisement. If you would know how the process works or if you work with that kind of business, please let us know who to contact for sending out this kind of leaflets for the non profit organization. Here is the letter Natura Pet Products sent to its retailers this week: "Dear Natura Retailer, I am pleased to announce the acquisition of Natura Pet Products by Procter & Gamble was finalized June 1. We are now able to communicate with you directly about the acquisition and what it means. We’ve faced many of the same challenges over the past 30 days and I would like to thank you for your patience and for forwarding your questions and concerns. You have made it clear that for Natura to continue to count on your support, we must supply you with clear, timely, and transparent communication. Therefore, I would like to share the following commitments and plans with the promise to release additional details as soon as they are available. First, I am pleased to announce that I have accepted the role of President and Chief Operating Officer for Natura Pet Products, and that my current leadership team remains in place. I believe the future is bright for Natura, and I look forward to continuing the success of Natura and its great products. Second, the quality of our products will continue to be world class. Natura’s nutritional philosophy will not change. The foundation of our success is rooted in our products and their performance. We will not compromise our standards. Our approach to formulation and product design will remain the same, and we will continue to position our formulas on the cutting edge. We will continue to evolve and improve our market leading products. As part of this: All Natura dry products will continue to be produced in our own plants. Our ingredient selection philosophy will remain unchanged. Next, our commitment to the Independent Pet Store continues to be our top priority. Effective immediately, we have increased the value of our co-op funding policy through December 2010. These funds have been released to our Regional Managers to grow all of our markets. Please share your business building ideas with your Natura sales representative so that together, we may grow the Natura business. We will be increasing our advertising to drive customers to your store and create additional awareness of Natura Products. More details will follow in upcoming days and weeks. Many of you have expressed concerns about possible expansion of the Natura brands into other channels of the market. While we can assure you we have no specific plans at this point, if and when we decide to do so the following key principles will guide our actions: We remain committed to the distribution of Natura brands only within the Pet Specialty channel. This is the place where our all-natural pet food seeking pet parent shops, and where we can invest with you to provide cutting edge products and nutritional consultation. Natura dry formulas will continue to be manufactured in the Fremont plant with the same quality and nutritional standards. We will seek to maintain the competitiveness of the independent pet store channel. We will provide the independent pet store channel with advance notice of any broadening of our distribution. Finally a word of re-assurance regarding our Natura distributor network. We will be honoring all of the existing distributor agreements that carry through this calendar year and we will recognize distributor performance and commitment to Natura’s success by offering to extend agreements even further. We believe this letter meets your expectation for clear and timely communication. We encourage you to use this letter to measure us in the future, and judge us by our actions, not our words. We accept the responsibility to earn and maintain the support of our independent retailers. Our promise is to provide you with world-class products along with the necessary sales and marketing programs to deliver growth and success for your store. Thank you for your belief in Natura Pet Products. I look forward to growing our business together. Sincerely, Don Scott President and Chief Operating Officer Natura Pet Products" http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/articles/message-from-natura-to-pet-store-retailers.html I see a lot of changes coming down the line, some immediately and some in 2011. But I am interested in how others are interpreting this letter, as so much is left open. What do you think Natura is promising or failing to promise in this letter? moreResolved Question: Career Suggestions Help?
My main specific career components: 1.Conduct research by observing behavior or phenomena, gathering or compiling, reading and learning information, idea generation and using visual associate memory, in a social science field. 2.Drawing comics and graffiti art, and other illustrations. Designing and building small models, like puzzles and architecture models. Creating and editing film and music art projects. 3.Help the most poor and disadvantaged people in the world on a local, national and international level. 4.Increasing awareness of disadvantaged people’s psychological and social conditions through psychological advertising and contact to social scientists, psychologists, politicians and economists. 5.I want my work environment to be similar to that of an FBI analyst by first observing real-world facts and evidence (outdoor field work), then using information and idea generation to “solve a criminal case” (conduct research – no more than two hours a day of research in front of a computer), and then to observe if real changes have been made. I dislike doing computer work. 6.Even though I want to have several new and interesting projects often, I do want to specialize in certain skills and knowledge, so that there is a high demand for me, and I will have financial security and job security, and I’m able to find work in many cities. Examples of this might be, a doctor, lawyer or teacher. What I am asking for is suggestions for careers that match with all of my components or with as many of these components as possible. It can be any career as long as it matches with these components. Thanks. moreResolved Question: How do I write an honest resumé that actually sounds good and convincing?
I'm 25 years old, in my third year of college (graduating next year), and am looking for a job in a PR/advertising media consultancy as a copywriter, account executive, and market researcher. This is my fifth attempt at college and I'm doing well this time at 3.61 GPA score, but I barely have any proper work experience. I normally only include three of my studies in my resume: Performing Arts Communication (current), Communication Management & Advertising Design (2004-2005) and Marketing/Management (2002). The ones I left out were European Studies (2003, strange situation) and Philosophy (2006, didn't seriously want it, and have administrative problems so the school probably won't release my transcript anyway). However, I did learn from each and every one of my studies, no matter how bad I did. I've been trying to avoid discussions about my past in job interviews, but when my interviewer sees that I have so many studies under my wing, it just seems that they couldn't help but ask. The reason why I failed four times in college before was NOT because I was dumb or had a lousy work ethic. I left my first college because the circumstances there didn't enable me to pursue my life goals, and as soon as I arrived at my second college I made the innocent mistake of hanging with the wrong crowd, thus costing me the next three studies. If it weren't for the misfortune that was beyond my control, I really did study hard and would have succeeded in my earlier attempts for college. I hate this bit right here, because it makes me sound as though I wasn't responsible; whereas in reality I worked really hard to learn from my mistakes and press on to my goals despite the delay. I did work between ages 19-24, but not the kind that my prospective employers would want to hear. Very briefly in an apparel retailer (age 19). I did 2 years of multilevel marketing (ages 19-21) because it was the only place I felt safe and accepted during the period that I was trying to get out of a devastatingly abusive relationship a continent away from my family home. I took various freelance translating and interpreting jobs between the ages 19-24, which I can do very well across three languages, but I have never been able to repeat business as regular as I had wished. When I was 23, at the pressure of some friends, I attempted to start my own business: a performing arts event organizer and training center. However, since last year this organization went into hiatus in order to first properly learn about the trade, gain resources, and get connected to the right people. I haven't worked since because my studies started demanding the better of my time. Writing resumés makes me nervous because my history really hasn't been filled with a lot of success, and I guess the only good thing I have left to offer is hope and positive self-belief (despite the fact that I haven't been able to prove anything over the past couple of years). I really think I'm not a bad person or a loser, I just had been unlucky. But other than that, I'm really good at writing, speaking, making people buy into my ideas, researching, foreign languages, and helping others fulfill greater potential by gaining self-awareness. Based on these facts, I really do believe that I deserve a career and that there are jobs I can be successful in out there. Having said that, which studies and work experiences do I put in my CV, and which ones do I leave out? Since the problem had nothing to do with the professional, how do I answer to my interviewer when asked why I couldn't seem to commit to anything long term, without revealing any personal problems I went through? Interviewers have told me that although I know what I want, I don't have what it takes to achieve them; how do I prove them wrong? How can I make my resumé and interview get me the job I want?I'm also stuck when I'm obligated to state how much I made in the jobs. I was paid commissions in MLM, so it was irregular, and I didn't make much. I tend to disguise this job as "account executive for FMCG distribution company". What I made on translation also depended on the length and difficulty of the job; I never really depended on the money I made from it to live on month to month. What do I write in the CV and what do I tell my interviewer without exposing myself, and how do I make sure that my answers lead to a fair negotiation? moreResolved Question: Why isn't there ever any advertisements for open source software?
How come we never see any commercials or bus ads for open source software? You can't argue with FREE. I was thinking about advertising Open Office at my college the other day. If I were to put an ad for OpenOffice 3 on a billboard, would I get in trouble? Someone needs to build awareness of the existence of open source alternatives.OpenOffice 3 - Another reason to tell Microsoft to suck it. I need ideas to come up with impactful and unexpected (those are the criteria) advertising campaigns to increase the awareness of depression in the public, and also to reduce the stigma against depression sufferers. But this idea was rejected cos its not 'impactful and unexpected enough'. First of all: is there an online survey or questionnaire I can take that will help me decide? If not, I welcome your advice. Background: - Graduated 2009 with a BA in Music, BUT I don't want to study or play music professionally - 3.5 GPA on graduation (not great I know, but I have good writing skills and study habits) - 1 year work experience in social media marketing BUT I've decided I don't want to work in sales, advertising, or marketing (maybe for a nonprofit... *maybe*.) - I want to go back to school and study something I'm genuinely interested in - Huge politics and natural sciences nerd. Science interests: earth/space, biology, astronomy, oceanic/atmospheric - I would love to do something involving science awareness/advocacy/education for teens or youth. - Solid computer skills, but no programming experience other than HTML/CSS - I love computers, I'm totally fine with working at a computer all day - Cost is not a huge concern, but must be less than $20,000/yr - **Must be a west coast school** Thanks in advance!!! moreVoting Question: i need to choose a class, which one sounds better?
This is the information we were given for these two subjects: Digital Media This exciting course will develop your creative ICT skills using the latest computer technology. You will learn new software applications and use them to create mini projects of your choice. We will be exploring web site design, computer animations, digital imaging and movie making. You will also be able to use object based programming language skills in designing and creating a computer game. The emphasis is on the practical use of software rather than documentation. If you are interested in expressing your imagination in new, dynamic ways then this is the course for you. OR Students say… You may have noticed all the awareness information for the charity KIVA around school. This is coming from the year 11 business and enterprise group. We have been doing lots of cool stuff like dancing to thriller in our lessons. However we do actually do things that are sort of important. Thrillerthon is one of the many ideas for the future that you could carry on. We have also taken cake sales to a new level with our pre-ordering and intensive advertising campaign raising a record amount of money for cake sales. As well as this we are running the Wii club every week. This work is going to the charity KIVA. You’ve probably got the message about it by now but just incase; KIVA is a charity that works in supporting social entrepreneurship in developing countries. In English that means it raises money to be invested in people’s small scale businesses for them to bring themselves out of poverty, then pay back the money which can be re invested. Emma says ‘At the time it didn’t feel like we were doing any serious work but looking back on it I’m proud at the amount we’ve achieved.’ what would you choose also im in year nine and these are once a week lessons for when im in year 10Another one i might choose is PE with a difference This course will incur some costs and sometimes we will not be coming back straight after school. BUT we may not do the activities you normally associate with curriculum PE. In the past we have been able to offer, depending on numbers and availability, a little dance and trampolining but we also propose to try cycling, rock-climbing, (indoor and out), squash, badminton, Pilates, yoga, golf, skiing, Taekwon-do, horse riding, curling and even ten pin bowling. moreResolved Question: Human rights - where can I make a PSA and raise awareness in N.Y.?

We wish to advertise them, as these events are aimed at raising awareness on Indigenous Issues and the battles these people face. Any constructive suggestions with a heart? Thanks moreResolved Question: Why our secular government is not flushing out 2 crore illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from India?
Even by most conservative estimates there are at least 2 crore illegal bangladeshi immigrants living in India which makes them equal to the total population of Australia. Many immigrants have illegally acquired citizenship of India and now constitute a solid vote bank for communists and other secular parties. Immigrant muslims become kingmakers during elections. Moreover, bangladesh declines to accept them as their countrymen. Most districts neighbouring bangladesh are now muslim majority and more Madarsas and mosques are sprouting along the borders. When government agencies arrest handful of immigrants flag bearers of secularism (or islamic fascism) like maulana badruddin ajmal roars that it is a well planned ethnic cleansing of Muslims. This problem should be the first priority of UPA government. There should be a seperate cell in every district of the country for identification of illegal immigrants. These immigrants can be easily identified with the help of locals like you and me but locals don't know whom to approach. Govt. should spread awareness about this issue through media like it advertises narega, right to education and other similar "acheivements". Is govt. waiting for north-east to become another kashmir where native hindus are driven out by muslims of another country? moreResolved Question: How do I advertise to my high school?

I recently had an epiphany about what I would like to do with my life. I want to promote social movements, help organize awareness events and volunteers. I have looked into things like the Red Cross, United Way, Salvation Army etc, but none of them are hiring in my area. Where can I go to get into this has a profession. I know it is hard to do, I have done this before, and realized how much I love it! It's going to be a lot of work for little pay, and I am okay with that. I know that I will be making a difference and that will make up for the monetary means I will be missing. I am about to graduate with my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with minors in Advertising, Communications and Sociology. I don't want to be on the corporate end of this, I want to be in the middle of it, working with my hands, legs, and heart. Hello, if anyone would like to read my speach and give me some constructive critisism that would be great :) thanks Have you ever opened a magazine and all you saw were pictures of females with absolutly no flaws? Girls, have you ever felt pressured by these commericials advertising your favorite products? Pressure from the media in teen girls is a fast growing problem that leaves many girls feeling bad and unhappy with their apperance and bodies. In the past few decades a strong image of what is "beautiful" has corrupted the minds of many girls, making them feel as if they are not good enough. So what can this pressure do to the female population? Many diseases such as anorexia can be triggered by this pressure. Anorexia is a disease in which you starve yourself and do not take in the nutrients necissary to live a normal healthy life. This pressure can also result in severe depression that can virtually destroy your life. Exposure to this unrealistic image starts at a very young age. Dolls and toys such as Barbie, protrays an unhealthy image of a stick thin flawless body. These dolls set a steriotype in which girls think they should follow. A study was done with girls in US and the results concluded that 86% of girls under the age of 18 admitted to dieting or at one point thought they should loose weight. In this percentage of girls, one percents condition will advance to a full blown eating disorder which CAN result to death. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate in all mental illnesses. All this buzz about what we are expozing to the worlds youth has got many celebrities concerned. Awareness to these problemes is becoming incresingly popular . For example, supermodel Tyra Banks, host of the hit TV show "Americas next top model" recently decided to eliminate the 5 foot 8 standard model height and let woman of any height audition for the show. She also supports plus size models and is one herself. Also, hit talk show host Oprah Winfrey is incredibly passionate about this pressure caused my the media. She quotes "I finally realized that being grateful of my body was key to giving more love to myself. " Recently, you may have seen commericials by dove advertising their "campagne for real beauty." This campagnes mission is to make more woman feel beautiful every day by widening steriotypical views of beauty. The brands commitment starts with using real woman, not professional models, of various ages, shapes and sizes to provoke discussion and debate about todays typical beauty images. Dove did a survey and they found that only 2% of women think that they are beautiful and one third strongly agree that the media and advertising set an unrealistic standard for beauty that most woman cant ever achieve. So, what can you do to help solve this problem? Look in the mirror. Find something you like about yourself and try to focus on that other than your flaws. You will quickly find that you feel better about your apperarence. Also, you may be the only one who notices these flaws in yourself. Always remember, you are your own worst criticnot judged on spelling by the way. im not handing and copy of the speech in, i have to read it in front of the class moreResolved Question: Anyone else hate that new advert about teenagers?

am single parent to disabled child who gets funding to employ tutors to work with my son at home and school. This has been going well for 2 years. I advertised for tutor part time, self emploed making clear it was 2 month probation period before Xmas. I employed someone from the school my son attends part time thinking they would be suitable....three weeks into training (34.5hrs/50hrs training) I assessed her to be unsafe i.e letting my son play with electrical sockets without stopping him/ not doing therapy as being taught; 90% incorrect then contridicting tutor whom was training her (did it to me days earlier when training her). Asked for reference from her when she applied for job and a few times up until she started the position. She said she taught english to foreign students but could not write simple instructions for my son to follow, do phonics, teach writing skills and not say words including his name (my son has severe communication and speech impairment)She was also a bit off with him when he did not respond, pushed him to chair instead of direct him and screamed at me and refused to leave for an hour when I dismissed her (in my home my son started to cry and she pushed him out of way and slam door behind her.....my son follows his tutors to the door to wave bye and nearly had his hand injured by the sheer force she slammed door). I had no choice but to dismiss her as she believed sitting child down to explain danger was enough(she said she worked with this disability for many years and was experienced)...my son has no danger awareness due to disability needs to be stopped immediately from something not sat down after he has touched electrical sockets etc... I explained with or without reference that I was very concerned and I would have had to let her go and the reference only confirmed my fears (I did not tell her what HT said over phone). Anyway had letter today at school she is taking myself and school to employment tribunal for racism ( I employed a greek man and american woman before her she is spanish) and wants job back and compensation. I am unemployed carer to my son and have a new tutor now...plus I would not want someone to be with my son who is aggressive, cant teach/speak/spell english to a level he can understand (age 5) and wont stop him from injuring himself. She also is saying I used reference as 'an exuse' to get rid of her as I didn't like her and the reference was not bad (it was,but would have had to let her go due to her way in dealing with my son and not able to teach him anything as was not doing anything we taught her and only had two more days to make 50hrs or training she should have been ready to work alone, but no where near any level in any skill trainined) and she denies I told her it was two month probation period (I told her infront of other tutor which all tutors get). What do I need to do..I have a form to fill in for tribunal that is due back in 3.5 weeks. i have enough stress with caring/managing staff/professionals/appointments/therapy… work to catch up etc for my son without this! feel scared....what have I done wrong? She also is saying I used reference as 'an exuse' to get rid of her as I didn't like her and the reference was not bad (it was,but would have had to let her go due to her way in dealing with my son and not able to teach him anything as was not doing anything we taught her and only had two more days to make 50hrs or training she should have been ready to work alone, but no where near any level in any skill trainined) and she denies I told her it was two month probation period (I told her infront of other tutor which all tutors get). What do I need to do..I have a form to fill in for tribunal that is due back in 3.5 weeks. i have enough stress with caring/managing staff/professionals/appointments/therapy/extra work to catch up etc for my son without this! feel scared....what have I done wrong? Advice please????? moreResolved Question: Does this testimony make you re-consider?
It hails from a slower-moving age but the experiences are just as valid don't you think? "I was born and raised in the Blue Mountains of NSW (Australia) where I frew up on the family farm. From about 6 years of age, I had a deep awareness of God and a desire to follow him. On our farm my grandparents had built a church and I took it upon myself to keep it clean, get rid of the mice that his in the organ and so on! I attended as many services as I could (It was a Church of England). As I grew up I was never quite satisfied with the Church. I cvould see form the bible that God's children enjoyed a lot more closeness to him than I did. So, after 30 years, I joined the Mission arm of the C of E believing this would bring me closer to him. I became a full-time church worker for 5 years in the Kimberleys of WA. Here I was a missionary - supposedly telling others how to find God - and yet I still did not feel any closer to him myself! We left there and ended up in Geraldton. I decided to leave the C of E. The Salvation Army seemed pretty active to I joined them. I was very busy in their "outreach" but, again, after 10 years of this I was left feeling disillusioned. When we moved down to Mandurah I was 63 and decided to give up looking for God in the churches. God would have to find me. After 12 months of just praying at home and reading my Bible, someone from the Revival Fellowship put a leaflet in my letterbox. I went to the advertised meeting and was amazed to hear for the first time such a simple salvation message: repent, be baptised and receive the Holy Spirit". It seemed too easy but I was baptised soon after. I prayed for about 3 months (I must have said a million Hallelujahs!) until finally I was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. It was something that you can't explain to someone that hasn't experienced it. It was pure peace and joy." Praise the Lord moreResolved Question: Whats the best way to raise funds for a Walk-A-Thon?
I decided that I was going to give back to the community to help raise awareness and assist with research for AIDS/HIV in the area which I live. The problem is part of the requirement is raising charitable donations. The facts: I suck at raising funds and I get angry when I have made attempts in the past and nobody has bothered. I have advertised this on my Facebook and the downside is, donations are only being accepted online through the website. The truth is most people have either a credit or a debit card, so what are some suggestions of things I can do to help raise money for my team? Federal investigators caution the excessive charges could multiply once the $15 billion headcount begins in earnest next month unless the agency imposes tighter spending controls, according to excerpts of a forthcoming audit obtained by The Associated Press. On a positive note, investigators backed the Census Bureau's decision to spend $133 million on its advertising campaign, saying it was appropriate to boost public awareness. The spending included a $2.5 million Super Bowl spot that some Republicans had criticized as wasteful. The findings by Todd Zinser, the Commerce Department's inspector general, highlight the difficult balancing act for the Census Bureau as it takes on the Herculean task of manually counting the nation's 300 million residents amid a backdrop of record levels of government debt.neocons..............So I assume you supported Obama's push to put the Census under control of the White House instead of the commerce dept??? Sorry if this gets a bit long-winded, but I really find this quite shocking: I have here the top google hit for asking the question: 'Are black people at a lower risk of skin cancer?' It also happens to be Cancer Research UK's Website - Cancerhelp.org. The link is to their 'Risks and Causes' page, the one that flagged up as the first google hit for the above question. Their only reference to black people is under the 'Who is most at risk' section and even then only in one sentence in one paragraph! This seems to be a fairly comprehensive page, covering everything from age, family history and other ilnesses, to chemicals, smoking and radiation exposure! - Each of which has their own section! The worst has yet to come... The single sentence that refers to black people on the 'Risks and Causes' page of Cancer Research UK's website (one of, if not THE top cancer charity/research organisation in the UK) is: "Black skinned people are less likely to get skin cancer, but they can be at risk on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands." I was shocked (to say the least) at reading this, bearing in mind where I had read it and the fact that I had been looking for a sensible and informative answer. I guess you could pull from it that black people are at less risk of skin cancer and from reading the rest of the page you could probably work out why, but if you were to take them at their word? What, should black people try to always wear gloves and socks in times of high exposure? I think not. Somehow I couldn't see it selling in Africa, especially if it was coming from a white person, as I suspect, (just by reading that sentence) that this article is. That said, I find it very hard to imagine how they could sunburn their hands and bottoms of their feet, other than laying on their backs with their hands and feet in the air?! Lol. So, Black people of the United Kingdom, Cancer Research Uk's top advice to you is: Don't have sex in intense sunshine and if you do, be sure to wear gloves and socks at all times! The link is below if you want to see it for yourselves. http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/type/skin-cancer/about/skin-cancer-risks-and-causes Also, besides all the joking there seems to be a more serious point. The 7'th Google hit for the same question was a page on skin cancer from brownskin.net, which, as the name suggests is a site written by and for black people and is largely about skin. Alarmingly, this page states quite clearly that black people have a false sense of security regarding the risk of skin cancer and that whilst the amount of black people who contract skin cancer is lower overall, the mortality rate is in fact higher! I believe this is an American site, but it certainly sounds believable. Given C' R' UK's "advice" on the subject is so flimsy and I would say perhaps even a little insulting. Especially so, when that sketchy/insulting advice directly contradicts the advice of a 'black skin' website? Again, the link if you wish to see it yourselves. www.brownskin.net/cancer.htm I find it really quite alarming that this seems to be such a grey area, when today in 2010, a good % of our population is not white. My original question was going to be 'are black people less at risk...' but I think as I've gone on the question is perhaps more appropriate if along the lines of: Is there a massive oversight on the part of the leading cancer awareness organisations in the UK and possibly the rest of the world? And could, or even should, more be done to raise awareness amongst black people and advertise that whilst they may be at less risk of being damaged by the Sun's UV rays, they are at a high risk of mis-diagnosis or un-awareness that they are vulnerable? I'm not trying to stir an arguament, or say anything intended to offend anyone, I have genuine concerns about this (potential) issue. I am looking forward to hearing some interesting and informative answers. Please, if you don't have anything sensible to say, keep it to yourself. Thanks.Update: I still have no answer. My question was, in simple terms, 'should more be done to educate black people on skin cancer, seeing as the 'black skin' website I read seemed to think that black people have a "false sense of security" & higher mortality rate. I genuinely wondered this, and when I tried to research it I found vague & contradicting information. Since Cancer Research uk have such little to say on the matter, I put it (again) that could/should more be done to raise awareness amongst black people? -That whilst yes, they are at less risk of being damaged in the first place, but does that very fact mean that they are at a higher risk of fatality or mis-diagnosis? I never disputed that their skin is less likely to burn or contract skin cancer, but it seriously worries me that there is not more information. Perhaps "Black people are at less risk of having their skin damaged by the sun, but EVERYONE should address any suspicions with the same urgency and importance. Also, Im not racist, not in the slightest. I'd have thought that anyone with any degree of intelligence would see that my question is regarding the health & well-being of black people. Quite how one could derive racist sentiments from this, I cannot understand. There are some truly narrow-minded people in the world. It saddens me greatly, that today in 2010 one cannot open a topic regarding skin colour (no-matter how sensitively/carefully they word it!) without being 'branded' by two or three others as a racist! It makes me sick. I echo my sentiments from before: If you don't have anything sensible to say, spare us it. I would have thought that in such a diverse society, people could discuss each other's colour freely, perhaps I was mistaken. Do you really think id have spent half my evening writing a question, to have a discreet racial dig or spark an arguament? You are hugely mistaken, I thought I made my intentions clear from the off. I'm still looking for an answer though. K moreVoting Question: Is the brand Obama sold us overall good or bad for USA?
I read an article about Obama in the Guardian talking about Brands and this person Naomi Klein went on to say both Bush had run the position of president like a Hollow Corporation, whereas Obama somewhat changed this. A quote from the long piece. This preference for symbols over substance, and this unwillingness to stick to a morally clear if unpopular course, is where Obama decisively parts ways with the transformative political movements from which he has borrowed so much (the pop-art posters from Che, his cadence from King, his "Yes We Can!" slogan from the migrant farmworkers – si se puede). These movements made unequivocal demands of existing power structures: for land distribution, higher wages, ambitious social programmes. Because of those high-cost demands, these movements had not only committed followers but serious enemies. Obama, in sharp contrast not just to social movements but to transformative presidents such as FDR, follows the logic of marketing: create an appealing canvas on which all are invited to project their deepest desires but stay vague enough not to lose anyone but the committed wing nuts (which, granted, constitute a not inconsequential demographic in the United States). Advertising Age had it right when it gushed that the Obama brand is "big enough to be anything to anyone yet had an intimate enough feel to inspire advocacy". And then their highest compliment: "Mr Obama somehow managed to be both Coke and Honest Tea, both the megabrand with the global awareness and distribution network and the dark-horse, upstart niche player." http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/jan/16/naomi-klein-branding-obama-america If ya got time should read it. I seen stories and posts in the conservative media and on websites like this accusing atheist individuals or group that dare to publicly proclaim their atheism as being "militant"--with the unspoken (sometimes spoken) suggestion that such a position is bad, dangerous, unpatriotic or even downright evil. But why is this? Xtians have been putting up billboards and taking out media advertising for decades--why is it "militant" for an atheist group to do the same? Granted some of the billboards are a little blunt, but most of them appear to go to great lengths to avoid being confrontational. Xtians have been meeting to discuss topics of mutual interest and benefit (both religious and secular) for centuries--why are atheists who try to do the same labeled "militant". Especially since 9/11 the term has become irrevocably tied to terrorists and violent extremist groups. Xtians often (and rightfully) take advantage of the court system when they feel their constitutional rights have been violated--why are atheists "militant" or "aggressive" on the relatively few times they've done the same. Someone please tell me what's so militant about participating in public displays or events as an atheist that wide ranging groups have involved themselves in anyone giving it a second thought? Did the atheist sign in the Washington State Capitol REALLY ruin anyone's Xmas? Would a humanists groups sponsoring a section of highway REALLY damn all those who drive on it to the depths of Hell? Why shouldn't atheists groups have the same right to expand their membership and raise awareness of their existence without interference that most other religious, political or cultural groups have? Why aren't campus "young conservatives" groups called "militant"? Why wasn't the group that rented billboards urging people to say "Merry Xmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" referred to as "Militant Xtians" in the press?" Why doesn't the media call Little League a "militant youth sports group"? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this issue--most particularly our American cousins, who from what I seen in the media seem to wrestling the most with this. Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: Looking to help for bottle/glassing crime prevention campaign?

This is my essay for Health. We watched the movie Super -Size Me and were asked to do this. The topics I included were all given and had to be used. and then of course, there had to be and intro and a conclusion. I dont want the essay checked for facts. I want it checked for grammar and that kind of stuff. so if you have the time to read this over i would greatly appreciate it. I've numbered the paragraphs so that you can refer to them more easily. thank you soo much 1 Super-Size Me is the perfect movie to watch to understand the benefits and harms of certain eating habits. It teaches us about the dangers of fast food. Not only that, but it also explains what foods to eat, how much of those foods, and ways to maintain a healthy weight. 2Super-Size Me is a great teaching tool for students and everyone else. For example, it shows us the risks of eating fast food, specifically McDonald’s fast food. Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald’s fast food for thirty days straight. He gained 25 pounds and also doubled his chances for heart disease. It took Morgan 14 months to lose his extra weight and he said it was nothing close to being easy. In addition, this movie shows the ways schools are affecting obesity in their students. Vending machines with pop are one of the main reasons. Some schools have banned soda vending machines and even prohibited students from bringing soda. Furthermore, Super-Size Me gives awareness about the consumption of fast food. Forty percent of American meals are eaten out of the house; that is about 121,623,890 people! Because of fast food restaurants, sixty percent of Americans, about 182,435,834 people, are either overweight or obese. 3 This documentary film shares many interesting facts. For instance, the people of America eat more than 1,000,000 animals hourly. Another fact is that there are only seven items on McDonald’s menu that contain absolutely no sugar. As well as McDonald’s being unhealthy, it represents 43 percent of America’s fast food market, which makes things even worse. Also, each day 1 in 4 Americans visits a fast food restaurant. 4 I think that it makes complete sense that the main cause for people being overweight and obese is the fast food industry. The food is already so fattening. On top of that, it makes a person lazy because it depresses the body and harms many of its organs. If you look back many, many years ago, weight was not such a huge issue. That is because the fast food industry was not so popular. This not only prevented people from becoming so weighty, but since they were not getting so much fat they also were active. 5Now, the question is, whose responsibility is it for Americans’ weight problems. The credit for that should go to both, the fast food industry and the general public. Yes, industry encourages the public to buy their food; they advertise through television commercials, signs, and even toys. But then again, the public is stupid enough to fall for all these advertisements. Fast food is not the only thing being advertised. There are commercials for whole-grain cereals, and articles about how to keep up a healthy lifestyle, and even free samples of fruit at the grocery store. Even so, we still tend to fall for the junk. 6Back in the 1950s, the founder of McDonald’s said, “Look after the customer, and the business will take care of itself.” This means that if the customer is convinced to buy the food then the business will be fine because it will be making money. Basically, customers are being looked after and at the same time being harmed because the food they are told to eat is only hurting their bodies. But no matter what, the business is making good movie. 7Overall, Super-Size Me teaches that fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s are extremely unhealthy. The food should be eaten very sparingly if at all. Otherwise, nutritionists advise to never eat it. It affects you in many ways, like by increasing your weight, or even heightening your chances of heart disease.someone told me to take out the 'i think' that starts the fourth paragraph. the thing is, the teacher told us to give our own opinions/personal experience in the essay. if i took out the 'i think' wouldnt it sounds just like facts? not my opinion? moreResolved Question: how do i get people to donate to a charity event?

I'm trying to earn up money to donate to a certain wildlife charity for a particular species - the only thing is, the species isn't that well known and isn't incredibly popular. That is, it's not a panda, a wolf, a dolphin, or anything like that. It's a rhinoceros. How would I try to get the word out so I can raise money to help the species when at the moment, there's little to no interest in it? I would prefer to do so without telling them it's going to something else because I wouldn't feel right about that and the whole point of this is not only to try to help out the species per say but also get the word out. Any suggestions on how to advertise? The main method is through my own artwork - I got a main piece down as an example of what I can do and I'm taking commissions to earn the money. But, because the animal they're seeing isn't all that popular, no one seems to be showing up - and I consider my artwork to be fairly decent (that is, you can tell what the heck it is and it's for the most part anatomically correct). Please read this analysis and tell me what you think. I also need a way to end it... Please help. Thanks so much!!! Analysis of Fashion Campaign: K&G Fashion Superstore: “Fashion without the victim” When determining the success of a fashion ad campaign, one has to determine the goal of that campaign. Was it to drive sales for a key item? Was it to stir controversy? Was it to just create a brand image/feeling? Was it to try to increase market awareness and brand exposure? A case in point is the K&G Fashion Superstore chain, owned by Men’s Warehouse Inc. K&G’s point of separation is that it advertises the same brands and styles of clothes as found in other department stores at everyday prices that are up to 60 percent less. To sharpen their distinction between other department stores in this bad economy , K&G Fashion Superstore launched a humorous new advertising campaign that pushed its selections and prices with a tagline — “Fashion without the victim” – The new campaign included television, radio, out-of-home and guerilla tactics to help drive home the point that K&G offers the same styles and brands of clothes as department stores, but at everyday prices that are up to 60% less. One television commercial, entitled “911,” remind you of an actual call to the emergency phone number, but the “victim” is merely a shopper who overpaid for clothing at a department store. The caller claims to have been just robbed by a man who “took my money and all I got was this dress.” A second television commercial takes place in a courtroom where a defendant is suing a department store salesman for selling him an overpriced suit. An insensitive judge tells the defendant that if he’s “stupid enough to pay that, you deserve what you get.” A number of radio spots throw down the gauntlet with the opening line of “Department stores are robbing people every day; so we thought we’d teach them a lesson and rob them back.” In each commercial, an electronically altered voice demands payment from a department store operator for something it feels is valuable or incriminating to the store. Through each plot, listeners are reminded that K&G offers the same designer brands as department stores, but at a much lower cost. The campaign for K&G seeks to make waves because its goal is to “drive awareness” for the K&G brand.please dont answer the question with dumb answers to get points.. please i really do need help... moreResolved Question: Applying for position as Green roots canvasser. I am new to Washington and find Seattle the first city I could ever imagine not wanting to leave in favor of traveling! In addition to my desire to improve myself with new experiences and skills, I would also like to be apart of the team of individuals who take the burden upon themselves for instituting political changes, human rights, ecological preservation, and an increase of awareness from the public of their own parts in our freedoms. A hobby of mine has always been early American history, as I have held a strong respect for the founding fathers of this country, and their message that the rights we do not defend we will most certainly lose. I have previous experience working closely with others, be self motivated, a leader when the situation calls for it, and how to advertise.
