Open Question: Do you have to be on a family share plan for verizon to take advantage of the buy one get one?

So ive been eligible for an upgrade for six months or so, & i was waiting for my boyfriend to be eligible for his 2 year upgrade also to get the same phone. Well today is his day & we were going to get the droid eris. We called verizon & the guy said it has to be on the same family plan? Which if you get on verizon website, all it says is buy one get one free with 2 year upgrade or renewel. Where does it say anything about having to be on a family plan? Its false advertisement if you ask me? Unless someone can prove to me in fine print that it says that. Any one know if you do? more

Open Question: Would this be illegal?

I worked for a company last spring. It's a complete ripoff and I've tried to warn people about it. ie: http://www.ripoffreport.com/landscaping/spring-masters-canad/spring-masters-canada-crooks-r-35388.htm First, do you have any ideas on what I could do (legally) to inform people? Second, are any of these illegal: -The guy in the above link demands proof. Am I allowed to scan pages of the training manual that verify what I'm saying? Also print material like business cards? -post youtube videos to forum links of people who've complained about them. -DIGG links to ripoffreport and youtube video. -rehasing their youtube advertisements to point out every lie. -Emailing it to a newspaper. All of them, why not. I know it's nuts but I was thinking of applying again to record everything they say and post that online with a copy of their contract which contradicts everything they said. If I could find other people they could go to work and get video recordings of 16 people being shoved in a van. ... Might be over-the-top. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Please help me with this maths question, it's driving me nuts?

A man prepares a festival information booklet. He pays $38 for printing. The money he receives comes from 1 full page advertisement at $20 8 half page advertisements at $12 each and sales of the booklets. He expects to sell 500 booklets at 75 cents each. How much profit does he expect to take? I can't do it, help me please. I don't just want the answer, I want an explanation, too.Teja, my question is a multiple choice question and 1 of the answers is $453.00. I understood the question, but added it up wrong, which is why my answer was wrong. I have since done again and my answer matches yours, so I'm pretty certain your answer is right. Thanks. more

Voting Question: To fight or not to fight, that is the question. I have been wrongfully accused!?

My exes new gf printed off my myspace profile and claims the bumper stickers on it are harassing toward her. She has also created a (what she admits)fake profile with my picture and sent herself a nasty message that includes this quote: " If you don't give me back my man I will have someone play doctor with your children." I was arrested and charged with felony aggravated stalking which was dropped to a misdemeanor cyberstalking charge back in April of 2008. They have 3 computers that belong me and and none of hers. All they have is printed papers that clearly look altered due to no advertisements or other typical banners found on myspace pages. Also, on the threatening email next to my picture is a choice to "block user" AND "delete from friends" which would indicate we were on each others "friends list." We have NEVER been friends on myspace. Also, this account and her account have been deleted. Therefore, there is no way to authenticate this email...(which I am demanding they do through myspace records) but they insist I cant request her records due to a violation of her civil rights. SHE SET ME UP and her rights are protected??? Now I am $8k in debt to lawyers and without even opening my 3 computers and 3 state prosecutors later they have offered me a plea of 25 hrs community service and 1 4hr anger management class. I DID NOT threaten her!! What do I do?? By the way...we are talking about Tiffany Shepherd the Florida bikini teacher who was fired for not showing up to work but claims it was bc she was topless on the boat now turned porn star Leah Lust. She has also claimed 3 other people are stalking her including a private investigator. She has over 20 court case's in 4 counties. PLEASE HELP!!So do I drop my lawyer I paid and go with a public defender and continue to fight or am I too emotionally involved and need to just take the offer and let it be done with. Even though I NEVER threatened her? Doesn't she have to prove authenticity? And by doing so she would need to provide her computer and the original message? The offer is a "conditional dismissal." more

Resolved Question: ?'s for starting a small photography business (school project)?

I have to figure out monthly expenses, and estimate a monthly income. Im not good with money and have found nothing while researching on the web. I really need some help and this is due wednsday. A few things you need to know about my business/project is that it is digital photography. It will be mainly for weddings and other events like that. I'm not sure if I want to work from at home or have a studio, Whats your opinion on that? I have to make a spreadsheet for monthly expenses so I was wondering what might some of them be? I know theres advertisement, auto expenses, equipment maintance, offices supplies, the cost of prints (should I print the photos or have them sent out for printing). Thats all I can think of, am I missing anything? Also how much do you think each of these will cost per month? And the last thing is what is an apropriate estimated monthly income? I have no idea what to expect. I know its kind of a lot to ask but if you could answer any of these questions that would really help me alot. Thanx :)I forgot, are their any licenses or things like that, that I should know about? I think my teacher mentioned something about them. Oh and taxes, too. more

Voting Question: can someone edit my this i believe essay?

i am doing a this i believe essay and its due tomorow if its good enuff i might send it to NPR. if if i missspelled something or commas or periods are wrong, or if i used "THERE"" wrong can you point it out, and if you have any thoughts on the topic i am writting about then pease send me some feedback. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Graffiti is Art It all started when I was just a little kid where I was sitting in the car in when something hit my eye. It was 2 guys tall, with baggy pants and hoods on and spray cans in their hands. They were just finishing up there masterpiece. It was nothing I have every seen before in my life. It was big with reds, yellows, pinks and blues, lines that connected to other lines that turned into arrows and clouds. I thought in my head that those guys must of spent years on that big portrait. I asked my mom “what is that” and she replied like how every mother would say to their kid “its some dumb teens trying to ruin the city. I better not catch you doing that boy.” I didn’t understand why she didn’t like it, I loved it and after that day I was hooked, the more I saw it the more I want. It’s like how a drug addict loves the smell taste and felling of what their on, well that’s how it is for me on graffiti. I love the way it looks, I love the sound of spray paint shaking, and I love the smell of fresh paint. I am hooked. When people think of graffiti they think of vandalism, New York, hip-hop and crime mostly because that’s what Society made it look like. People need to know the history of it, why we do it. We do it for different reasons; some do it express there feelings, some just do it to vandalize and some just want to get noticed by writing there name everywhere. Lots of people do it for the rush, and the more people talk about them the more they do it. Graffiti all started a long time ago, from the cave mans putting there hand print on the wall to show that they were there and after that it grew to it is today. Now, we do what they did back then from showing that we were here but in a way to catch peoples attention. Graffiti is a way to fight against the world. For example when you think about it companies were one of the first graffiti artist and one of the biggest today for putting up advertisements. When you walk down the street everywhere you look you get people throwing advertisements in your face, to me that visual pollution. And that is exactly what they say about graffiti too. In the big cities they build big tall buildings sky high that makes the city grey, ugly, and boring; you can’t even see the sun. Everything is pain and all business, but if you add some graffiti to the buildings it gives colors and jazzy feeling to the city. It’s like no one asked for my graffiti and no one asked for your wall. So I think that if there going to make graffiti illegal then they should do something about advertisements too. So people are going write everywhere and keep doing it to fight against the world. There is a line to where you can say graffiti is an art, if you’re talking about tagging with just scribbles and drips on walls that take 10 seconds to write; that’s just plain vandalism and that’s nothing close to art or what I call graffiti, it’s just a tag. But when you make the scribbles and drips into bubbles, and abstracted lines with tons of colors and shades, were people spend time at that spot for whatever reason they do it for. That’s what you can call art. When you see a piece of graffiti on the side of a building or train you shouldn’t think of what Society made it but think of it as a piece of art and think of the person spent lots of time and risked getting caught or killed just to put that piece of expression up on the wall. more

Resolved Question: Direct TV Legal Help...PLEASE?

Two days ago my dad purchased DirecTV due to a advertisement in his AAA magazine. When they came to install the package my dad asked me to sign the contract (I'm 21) since he is disabled and has some trouble writing. He could have signed it if he wanted to. So I signed the contract in front of the Directv rep who didn't state anything. After checking the statement on the internet the next day I realized the programing they had given us was not as advertised. I also noticed we were short a 5 dollar rebate as stated in the fine print of the advertisement. I called trying to resolve the issue but was told that I was given the channel package because it's what my father had asked for...not true. They also told me that I was no longer entitled to the rebate because I had picked a different package. After about an hour I just gave up. I want to cancel my service with them now but know that they will charge a fee. I need to know if there is anyway my dad can get out since technically they had an agreement with my father not me and I was the one who signed it...I have read there contract and know how to go through arbitration but I was just curious about my signature. Also, is it anything I can get in trouble for even though the rep didn't say anything. more

Open Question: Does anyone find it unfair to black actors...?

...that they probably get denied a lot of roles in commercials and such because of a company's fear of being called racist? Isn't it also interesting that most people only seem to care about racism when it could bring down a company? Let's look as some moments in advertising history. Some of them have been a slight bit redrawn to prove my point, but some of them have been left untouched. 1972: Marlboro begins advertising with a black Marlboro Man type character. Outrage begins to spew, along with accusations that Marlboro is part of a conspiracy to kill off African Americans with lung cancer. Marlboro pulls the ads, resuming advertising with the caucasian cowboy-type Marlboro Man. No one complains. 1986: Kool-Aid releases a television commercial featuring an African-American family. Racist cries start to rise, due to a claim v.s. Kool-Aid of stereotyping. Sadly, Grape Kool-Aid Man, voiced by James Earl Jones, makes his first and last appearance. 2002:KFC plans advertisements with Morgan Freeman, featuring a song by Blues legend B.B. King. Unfortunately, many Americans get wind of this due to a press release, and begin to write lots of hate mail to KFC, for reasons varying from stereotype, and encouraging African-American obesity and cardiac problems. KFC employs Jason Alexander and "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynard Skynard instead. KFC's business returns to normal. KFC talked about this decision 6 years later, stating that they chose Jason Alexander because "he couldn't really get any fatter", therefore he wouldn't seem to be affected by the product he advertised. As for the cardiac arrest, they chose Lynard Skynard because a plane crash took care of that a few decades ago. Kentucky Grilled Chicken immediate becomes their main focus, pretty much making this case forgettable. 2007: Intel releases a print advertisement. In effort to boast the speed of it's latest processor, Intel portrays the processor with a lineup of black sprinters, in starting position, probably due to the fact that black sprinters have held Olympic records for as long as time can remember. Unfortunately, there is a white office manager in the middle of the office setting. Somehow, the starting position that most (okay, 99.9%) of races take before the gun fires is mistaken for a bow to said office manager. Ad is pulled immediately. more

Resolved Question: Can you help me with this paragraph...URGENT**?

Please can you help me rearrange and rewrite this paragraph for my cover letter, so it flows, is concise, is informative but does not drone on... At 'unnamed' magazine, I took a tenacious and initiative approach. Here I created a number of contact databases and events calenders as well as researching, pitching and executing content for the publication and it’s website. My can-do attitude saw me quickly established from intern to freelance News Writer/Commissioning Editor within a month. I took charge of monitoring press releases as well as scanning local, regional, national and international print and digital press to seek out stories as well as finding sutible writers and personalities for the Editor’s interview section. As it was a small team, I regularly assisted the Adevertising and subscriptions team to secure advertisements and create media packs. On several occassions, I was entrusted to cover the role of the Assistant Editor where I liaised with readers, graphic designers and printers, sub-editing final proofs, adhered all copy to house-style, contributing relevant headlines, standfirsts, photo captions and suggesting pull-out quotes amongst some of my tasks. more

Voting Question: Is it illegal for some one to use my wedding announcement photo as and their business info. as and ad?

My wife and I were recently married and hired a profeesional photograppher to take our photos, we signed a contract only to pay a certain amount for the service, on our wedding date. Nothing more. Recently, we have found numerous wedding announcements popping up in community papers with our photo, including in bold print the name of the photographers, their web address, and contact numbers, which to me implies advertisement. I do believe that this is illegal for them to do because they did not have our permission to use the photo for their private use or for commercial purposes. Can any one else let me know what they think? I would like to send her a bill for using our photo.. Normally she would have to pay to advertise, but has turned our announcement into an ad for the local papers all around our entire areas. more

Resolved Question: its 646 words. i need to shorten it to 500 words. how do i do that? i cut it down from 2000+ words so i cant f?

figure out how to make it any shorter!!! It’s a fact that life without air conditioner would be extremely different from what it is now. Air conditioning has improved our economy, society, and culture, and has changed the way Americans live, walk, and play. Despite the many positive outcomes, Americans have definitely become to reliant on it. Willis Havilland Carrier created air conditioning in 1902 while working at a printing house. The irregularities in the humidity and temperature made the inks misalign. Carrier’s invention lowered the humidity and also held it at a constant level. Air conditioning lowered the humidity of air by “balancing the temperature of the coils, through which cold air passed, with the rate of flow to reach the desired dew-point level”(Willis Carrier, par.4). 20th century social scientists theorized that “hot weather slowed civilization down, made people lazy, and created generations of slow-witted people, justifying slavery and imperialism” (Robbins, Susanna, pg. 2). When first invented, air conditioning was only used in factories for industrial uses and did nothing to improve the comfort of the poor factory workers. As time went on, advertisement began focusing on middle class citizens and rather than being considered an industrial product, it became a social status shaper. At the time, elite, upper class Americans shunned air conditioning and claimed that they were above admitting any discomfort. That perspective of air conditioning is now gone, and over 75% of American homes have air conditioning. Social rituals to deal with summer weather such as sitting with family on porches, and summer vacations became less common. This impact is negative because families began spending less time with each other. Before air conditioning was used for comfort purposes, it was used mainly in America’s industry. Air conditioning wasn’t limited to only printing plants. Tobacco factories and textile mills also used it to improve their products. It also increased productivity in factories and other work places. Studies showed that a cooler temperature and lower humidity lead to an increase in productivity. In fact, “one 1938 study found a 51% increase in productivity during the summer months”. (The coolest America of the century, pg. 2). Not only did factories gain productivity, but places like movie theaters, restaurants, and stores gained a lot more business because customers came in to escape the heat. This impact on America’s economy is definitely positive. Without all the productivity and business gains, our economy wouldn’t have become as strong as it is now. One of the most noticeable impacts air conditioning has had on America is its culture, or more specifically, its architecture. Older homes had porches and verandas. This was where families gathered on hot evenings to escape the heat. These homes use to have thick walls, eaves, attics, breezeways, and cross ventilation; all different methods used to keep houses cool. Once air conditioning became common in houses, those methods were replaced with centrally cooled suburban houses. This impact is negative because the south lost a lot of its unique architecture. Finally, air conditioning definitely has changed the way Americans live, work, and play. Now enclosed spaces are comfortable enough to work in, maximizing productivity and space. AC is also now used for preservation. It was used while preserving the Sistine Chapel in Rome and to preserve a 500-year-old frozen Incan mummy. Air conditioning also led to the invention of the centrifugal chiller. This invention was used to cool large public areas, and used refrigerant fluid instead of ammonia. Out of all other American innovations, air conditioning might have had the greatest impact, changing American society, culture, as well as its economy. Americans have obviously become too dependent on, as they miss it when its not there. Americans now have become accustomed to being comfortable, so now, instead of going outside to enjoy the outside where they would miss the cool AC air, they would rather stay in the comfort of their air conditioned home. more

Resolved Question: Are people that gullible to want a snuggie?

I have been staying up late and watching ghost hunters and several different horror things on the chill network when last night I stumbled on the snuggie commercial. Its new advertisement rocks cheesy 70's porn music and almost reminded me of a snoop dogg music vid. The family portrays the lovely snuggie now in feisty prints (leopard etc.) and is shown "raising the roof". Seriously?... I almost thought Betty White would show up rapping in this commercial. Do I really want a snuggie now? Not really but it was hysterically funny.... My Question is after seeing this commercial who really wants to buy one when the commercial is so cheesy? Who has other cheesy commercial sitings? more

Resolved Question: How much should I charge for my magazine advertising?

Hi. I am currently a 16 year old student and I have decided to make a magazine to give to the students of my school for FREE. The magazine will be 16 sides of A4 and I will be putting on 7 pages worth of advertising per magazine. I will be only printing 600 magazines on a monthly basis at the moment and the cost of the printing including delivery will be £500 per month. Also, per month, I will be wanting to make a bit of profit for example £200-300 if that's possible. So please can someone advise me on what I should charge for a full page or a half page advertisement on my magazine. Also the ads will be in colour. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: i need ideas for a magazine?

I am making a magazine for my boyfriend for our 2 yr anniversary. I have 24 pages already, but and the company that is printing it for me won't let me have any less than 26 and I can't think of anything else. This is what I have so far... I also have 3 advertisements and 1 picture I drew for him. THANKS! more

Resolved Question: I need a website that contains all car commercials (preferably print ads)?

I'm writing an essay on the Toyota prius 2010 and Honda's accord 2009...is there a website that has criticism or opinion about the cars advertisements? I'M NOT LOOKING FOR A WEBSITE THAT TALKS ABOUT THE CARS, BUT A WEBSITE THAT DISCUSSES THE ACTUAL PRINT ADVERTISEMENT. I'm looking for websites such as "Ads of the world"...is there others? more

Resolved Question: What do you think about the future of photography?

I've had my ear to the grapevine lately on the future of photography. With the advent of HD video, and in particular the integration of it into DSLR cameras, they are capable of taking a single from from a video that is of high enough quality for magazine print. Per it's usual MO, technology is only advancing and it cannot be stopped. Printed advertisement is at an all time low in favor of web based advertising, and moving images in magazines is something that's under a decade away thanks to super thin LCDS. Do you think this will have any effect on still photography as we know it? Do you think the future of fashion and high level commercial photography lies in frames captured from HD video or do you think there will always be a place for creating images as we know it today? I personally like to think that still images will always have a place, but as I said technology is a machine that cannot be stopped. more

Resolved Question: I have recently seen an English advertisement. It is ...?

'We like our communications to have an impact on you - but not on the environment. Which is why this is printed using vegetable oil-based inks on 100% recycled paper'. The way I understand this sentence is that they do not want this paper advert to have impact on the environment. Is that the word 'impact' can both use in positive way and negative way? i.e. good impact and bad impact? more

Resolved Question: I own a small business on Long Island, NY and I am looking for cheap direct ways of reaching new customers?

Advertising has become very expensive, especially in New York. Print ads in local advertising has been very disappointing due to the high ad rates compared to the return on investment. The internet is so vast and I am afraid that if I put money into online advertising, nobody will be able to find the actual advertisement. Does anybody have any answers? more

Resolved Question: How likely are you to respond to a "free or say $20 fee" for a photoraphy session?

This would be an add for example online (in your local area) or in the newspaper classifieds. The ad would offer photography services from a "beginner photographer" for either free or a minimal fee to cover gas to the shoot or the CD in which you would receive your photos on and you would have the rights to print as you wished. I thought this was a great idea when I saw an add online. It would give beginner photographers experience with the public. Of course the photographer would want your permission to use your photos on their website/blog, in their portfolio or for advertisement in the future. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter.LET ME REPHRASE THE QUESTION..IT SHOULD READ..HOW LIKELY ARE YOU TO RESPOND TO A "FREE OR SAY $20 FEE" AD FOR A PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION.Okay, Im getting some good answers/feedback from my question but I think I still didnt make the question clear enough that everyone knows what I mean. So let me give it another shot: I have photos to show to potential clients. I just need experience and would like to post an ad for either a few free shoots or charge something like $20 to cover my basic expenses. Its not like I have a business and I am setting a low price forever. If Im not established yet I can change my prices as I grow. I was just curious if any of you would give a beginner photographer a chance to photograph you. Would you pay the $20 and take a chance. Its all for experience and you would get some pretty good pictures out of it. It was just an idea that Ive been thinking over. And I would make that very clear in the ad. thanks to all that are replying. more

Resolved Question: How would I go about presenting concepts to Rocawear/Budweiser, being an unknown person in advertise/marketing?

I would like to sell license these perspective companies the rights to use the concepts, or an outright sale of them, which run the gamut of televised commercial ads, to magazines/billboard/print advertisements. These concepts are tailor made for the companies and are focused/specific, so they wouldn't work with other companies. My concepts have gotten great responses by strangers/family members, and even people who weren't up on certain aspects of pop culture. more
