Open Question: Can someone revise my paper on anerexia?

I have to write a paper and i would like your feed back i need this paper to be perfect because its the only thing passing me! The representation of only one model of beauty on television has attributed to women forming unrealistic body image expectations and lead to an increase in anorexia among young girls. Anorexia Nervosa is a mental condition which affects one’s both physical and mental health. It is a condition that causes one to have a distorted self-image and forces themselves to starve even if their body weight is already dangerously low. They often restrict their food intake to the point where they are extremely thin. It seems today that eating disorders are on the rise. While this may be true, the numbers may appear to grow only because more cases are being brought out into the open. The purpose of this paper is to discuss eating disorders and prove that these diseases, specifically Anorexia Nervosa, continue to plague of women due to psychological and environmental factors along with pressure from the media. The term “Anorexia Nervosa” is misleading. It means “loss of appetite due to nerves.” But people with anorexia don’t actually lose their appetite until the late stages of their starvation. Until, they do feel hungry, but they just won’t eat. People affected by anorexia have an extreme fear of gaining weight. In addition to drastic dieting, they may resort to vomiting and the use of laxatives and diuretics to lose weight. Statistics show that many teens and young adults suffer from anorexia nervosa. Without treatment, anorexia nervosa can cause serious health problems--even death! The sooner treatment begins the better the chances for a full recovery. The person with anorexia is a model child. He/She is well behaved, eager to please, and a good student who gets along well with her peers. She rarely admits that anything is wrong or that anything is wrong or that she/he extra helps. Behind the mask is an insecure, self-critical perfectionist who feels unworthy of any praises she receives. A person who has anorexia is also very concerned about whether other people like her. And she is constantly feeling self cautious about herself which makes it even worse about who she is as a person. Anorexia nervosa is a life-threaten eating disorder defined by refusal to maintain body weight. Other essential features of this disorder include an intense fear of gaining weight, a distorted body image, and an absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles (amenorrhea) when otherwise expected to occur in women. Sometimes people starve and binge, depending on the extent of weight loss. This can be physically very dangerous. On TV we see people who are rich, beautiful, and above all are thin They see these people and think if they were thin they too would be rich, and beautiful, people would like them. Eating disorders are seen primarily in western and industrialized countries, where slimness is a model of attractiveness some experts feel that the causes of anorexia are relative to demands from society and family. For many anorexics, the destructive cycle begins with the pressure to be thin and attractive. A poor self-image compounds the problem. Often anorexia starts when a teenager or young woman goes on a diet to loose a little weight. Spurred on by the compliments they get, they may become obsessed with dieting. They may think to themselves. "If losing a little weight’s well, loosing a lot must be great." People with anorexia typically have low-self esteem and are easily that being thin would give them all the confidence in the world. Many anorexics accept anorexia as a way of life and this is how you become popular and loved. Many fashion models are anorexic due to pressure put on them to look thin. Then young teenagers see these stylish skinny models and fell this is acceptable to do what ever is necessary to look like these models on covers of magazines and on the cat walks. On the Internet, website are widely available which encourage anorexia. They show pictures of models, which have been altered. Their limbs have been made longer and shadows created underneath their ribs to make them look even thinner. Some people who have anorexia become obsessed with getting fit and continuously exercise but don't replace energy lost in the body, therefore the body uses the muscle and soon it deteriorates and the person becomes weak, just so they can be thin. Many famous people have been affected by anorexia. One in particular was Karen Carpenter who was one of the first public cases know. She felt pressured by her job as a singer to look thin and beautiful so she starved herself. Karen Carpenter died February 4, 1983 of heart failure caused by chronic anorexia nervosa. She was thirty-two years old. She battled with it from 1975-1983 (when she died). She went to New York at the end of 1981 for a year of treatment by a psychiatrist but the damage had apparently been done. Plu more

Open Question: What do you think of my speach?

Hello, if anyone would like to read my speach and give me some constructive critisism that would be great :) thanks Have you ever opened a magazine and all you saw were pictures of females with absolutly no flaws? Girls, have you ever felt pressured by these commericials advertising your favorite products? Pressure from the media in teen girls is a fast growing problem that leaves many girls feeling bad and unhappy with their apperance and bodies. In the past few decades a strong image of what is "beautiful" has corrupted the minds of many girls, making them feel as if they are not good enough. So what can this pressure do to the female population? Many diseases such as anorexia can be triggered by this pressure. Anorexia is a disease in which you starve yourself and do not take in the nutrients necissary to live a normal healthy life. This pressure can also result in severe depression that can virtually destroy your life. Exposure to this unrealistic image starts at a very young age. Dolls and toys such as Barbie, protrays an unhealthy image of a stick thin flawless body. These dolls set a steriotype in which girls think they should follow. A study was done with girls in US and the results concluded that 86% of girls under the age of 18 admitted to dieting or at one point thought they should loose weight. In this percentage of girls, one percents condition will advance to a full blown eating disorder which CAN result to death. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate in all mental illnesses. All this buzz about what we are expozing to the worlds youth has got many celebrities concerned. Awareness to these problemes is becoming incresingly popular . For example, supermodel Tyra Banks, host of the hit TV show "Americas next top model" recently decided to eliminate the 5 foot 8 standard model height and let woman of any height audition for the show. She also supports plus size models and is one herself. Also, hit talk show host Oprah Winfrey is incredibly passionate about this pressure caused my the media. She quotes "I finally realized that being grateful of my body was key to giving more love to myself. " Recently, you may have seen commericials by dove advertising their "campagne for real beauty." This campagnes mission is to make more woman feel beautiful every day by widening steriotypical views of beauty. The brands commitment starts with using real woman, not professional models, of various ages, shapes and sizes to provoke discussion and debate about todays typical beauty images. Dove did a survey and they found that only 2% of women think that they are beautiful and one third strongly agree that the media and advertising set an unrealistic standard for beauty that most woman cant ever achieve. So, what can you do to help solve this problem? Look in the mirror. Find something you like about yourself and try to focus on that other than your flaws. You will quickly find that you feel better about your apperarence. Also, you may be the only one who notices these flaws in yourself. Always remember, you are your own worst criticnot judged on spelling by the way. im not handing and copy of the speech in, i have to read it in front of the class more

Open Question: are there any literary devices in this? parallelism, irony, etc.?

literary devices? Some may try to blame raunchy celebrities like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, who through their scandalous actions involving DUI’s and sex tapes, are undoubtedly becoming more famous. Celebrities make this lifestyle appear fabulous, they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, with no repercussions. Even Disney’s Miley Cyrus, the role model of many young girls, performed a strip tease at the Teen Choice Awards. Open Question: What do you think of children shows referring to non-Heterosexual relations?

I remember something on Tv.com, the iCarly forums. There have been quite a few topics for pairings, usually Seddie (Sam/Freddie) and Creddie (Carly/Freddie) but someone decided to make a topic for Cam (Sam/Carly). I went to the topic because: A. I was curious to how people would react. B. I ship that shipping. It's the only iCarly shipping I ship and half of the reason I watch the show. Basically all of the topic was a bunch of kids talking about either how "gross" that would be, or how they would never allow it. They do know this is a technically a teen show that is on a kids network (it's apart of Teen Nick) and is well-known for getting things that wouldn't be allowed on it's rating out, right? No real conversation though it lasted a good thirteen or so pages. A similar thing happened on the Kim Possible board. So I learned.. Tv.com is not a nice place. Anyway it seems like a lot of people react negativity to the thought. Usually something relating to the children or "So and so aren't gay!". I see nothing wrong with it. Single parents appear. Adoption appears. Foster homing appears. Romance appears. Lack of romance appears. I doubt any major network would do that anytime soon though. For one, it's a large step and two it would be a controversial one. No one wants controversy. Look what happened to Spongebob and he has a crush on Sandy (it's been stated multiple times in different official medias and look at his interactions with her in the early episodes). A lot of "kids" or family media has same gender romance but it's usually not open. The author of Wicked (which is an adult book but still) and people of casts for it (mostly Idina and Kristin though) has stated matter about Glinda and Elphaba. Though it's not open in the play. At least not stated. The Sonic Archie series has Rotor and..Some guy. It's not open and you have to A. Either read the statement where one of the writers or something stated their relationship or B. Look inbetween the lines. Gargoyles had Lexington. The western children medias that have non-heterosexual romance, even slightly, is usually not well-known or the story basically revolves around it. more

Resolved Question: What would you name these kids by their looks?

This is to see what you would name my siblings and I, just by going off our looks. I'll post our real (First and Middle) later (after a day) so check back! Pale skin, but it's darkening, and has freckles on his arms and some on his face. (Adult build: Average/muscular;; Height: 6'2) Third child (Girl): Shoulder length (barely past) auburn hair, with touch of blonde. Deep blue-green eyes with hint of hazel, and specks of gray. Resolved Question: Can You help me beef up my english Essay?

I just wrote this(yes it is a super-early rough draft) and I would like some help with beefing up my essay with more analogies, logos and pathos and syllogisms and all that good stuff. I had to write this quickly because I was in a bit of a time crunch, so I know it needs a lot of work. Although I really appreciate your enthusiasm please do not re-write the whole essay or sections of it: I merely want suggestions and ideas and maybe a few examples and pointers as to where and how I can make this a more convincing argument. BTW it's supposed to be an editorial and be no more than 1000 words. Here is the prompt, and the essay follows: "In the social media age, teens and young adults comprise an important demographic. According to the pew institute, 65% of online teens use social media. To many in this age group, sites like Facebook and Twitter are vehicles for modern self expression. However, in september 2009, President Obama advised a group of virginia students to carefully use facebook because 'in the YouTube age, whatever you do, it will be pulled up again later somewhere in your life.' Is the president Correct? Should Minors be heed this warning? or do they understand the weight of having a permanent and detailed online record of their lives? Is the solution to ban minors from social networking sites--until they are of age and responsible for their own choices? Write and editorial voicing your opinion about restricting young people from using social media websites..." Essay: To network or not to network? That is the question. There is a great debate these days about the internet and whether or not teens should be allowed to use social Networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. The Theory is that in this modern digital age anything posted on the internet will indefinitely remain there forever, and come back to haunt you when you are older. But are Theories always correct? Of course not. This is an important time in every teens life, one when they must learn to make good choices, and learn to live with their mistakes, and social networking sites should be no different. Teenagers Should be allowed to use social networking sites, as they are a valid form of self expression, communication, and promote a feeling of community. Everyone has to live with their mistakes, and teenagers are no different. We are at the point in our lives when we need to learn to make good choices, and learn to live with our mistakes. Why should the internet be any different? Making good choices is an extremely important part of being an adult, and what better place to start with than the internet to prepare and train ourselves for adulthood? Also, why let one apple spoil the Bunch? Just because a small percent of kids make mistakes, or lapses in judgment, why ruin the fun for everyone? Instead of, say more closely monitoring the internet usage of those kids? Although it is possible that some things may be pulled up at a later date, there is absolutely no guarantee that it will be the ruin of our applications to colleges. Chain reactions like that don't automatically happen to everyone. Most importantly, trying to eliminate or restrict usage of social networking sites is akin to trying to eliminate the criminal record of a person: if the person has done shameful things in their lifetime, then they have to live with them, if the person has done nothing wrong, they have nothing to worry about. Although Criminal Records and social networking sites and the internet seem like night and day, they are actually quite similar: both are relatively permanent, both can seriously help or hurt you in the future, and both can store information about your Criminal history, and more importantly, both can be accessed by almost anyone, such as college admissions advisers, potential employers, and the like. And I don't see anyone campaigning to eliminate criminal records forever. Fine, You know what, lets stop usage of social networking sites, that should solve the potential problem of a permanent record, right? Wrong-what about the countless YouTube videos and personal blogs and photo diaries on Flickr? Might as well restrict usage to those as well. In fact, since almost anywhere on the internet can be used as a personal diary of sorts, we might as well eliminate internet usage all together. I don't think so. Although that solves the problem of “internet diaries” people-kids in particular-will always find away around, whether it be by cellphone, “old fashioned” paper notes, or some other method. What do you do when your mom tells you not to eat a cookie before dinner? You eat a cookie before dinner. Attempting to restrict usage of Myspace and Facebook just makes defiant teens (almost all teens are defiant) more likely to join in an act of rebellion. Although this may seem like a hopeless situation, small steps can and should be taken to eliminate potential hazards teens fa more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my book outline? (Young Adult Thriller)?

Bear with me, this is just an overview :). Thanks in advance for reading! WARNING: LONG STORY, VERY CONDENSED. CAN BE CONFUSING. --- Near-Future, Israel has developed great police and machine technology. They profit on tourism a lot and are the site of many riots being a holy place to many. I left out any char development and kept this strictly to plot, however it's worth noting that miguel is very pacifistic and religious a-la Gandhi. --- Perfectionism is the damnation of mandkind. Media crashes down on people and causes feeling of inferiority, leading to depression, then suicide. The problem becomes desperate, with people trying to kill themselves in any way possible. 35% of the world population is committing suicide, while 10% of it are actively attempting the act. Temporary remedies such as curfiews have not worked. With the curfiews, all israel citizens are restrained at night with automatic machines to stop them from committing suicide. A cheap cure-all surgery has been made that uses hatching nanotechnology to modify a gene and remove all emotion whatsoever. The final resort, all developed countries decide to resort to a mass-surgery, one country at a time. Rioting enisues, but most of it is contained, but not all of it. Miguel is a 22 year old christian college student studying philosophy in Jerusalem's university. Being an insomniac, he is not restrained, however he has to check into his sleep restraint computer 3 times a day, and is encouraged to stay inside at night. Against his belief of non-violence akin to Ghandi's teachings, he is asked to bomb a building, but comprimises on an electromagnetic one that fries electronics. Using the cover of night, he finds no resistance other than a few officers who watch the homeless. He sets up the bomb in a coffee shop near the israel parliament, then detonates it. He runs home, as officials are alerted but cannot respond. Israeli police arrest miguel and instead of being given severe punishment, they decide to hold him until the surgery date. Miguel has a schizophrenic outburst and is placed into an asylum-prison with a serial killer. In the surgery day, the doctor handles everything (Not going into too much detail) except gives non-programmed nanites. He ignores the mistake, realizing he will be late for the doctor-wave of surgeries which are performed by machines, and he leaves. Miguel is waken up by his cell mate, who identifies himself as glenn. He identifies the misused drug as a strong anesthetic that will incapacitate someone for a month, something he used in a killing. Despite ethical differences, Miguel and Glenn team up and leave, finding that the asylum is abandoned. Outside, the world is filled with perfection, and people have been turned into logical drones (Think vulcan, without the sparing emotional outbursts). The perfection has led to the complete decimation of police forces, as no normal humans have been considered. Taking shelter in the asylum, the duo steals their food and supplies needed to live, as crime is not considered. They accidentally trip a man in the street, who hits his head and gets a concussion. Acting out of moral concience, Miguel alone takes him back to the asylum to treat him. Miguel theorizes that their lack of calculation may cause similar incidents, giving away their prescence. The concussion caused the man to loose his memory, but he came to senses, and responded to miguel's questions with emotion. Miguel punches his arm, and realizes this incident caused a reversal of the surgery. Glenn comes back from a shoplifting escapade, and is shocked. The trio decides to test various theories on the reversal in a small street, and find that a teenager responded to extreme pain caused by a sucker punch. Their theory verified, they notice people starting to carry tasers, as there existence may have been found. The teen has been assigned to do database research at the asylum while the others scout out for a new police force. On a roof, they accidentally alert a officer of their presence and are shot at. The police loose tail and they run back to the asylum, however the amnesiac is shot. (Story skip here) A plan to utilize nanotechnology to propel a large amount of hydrocloric acid (I can change this) over the city has been formulated, and the tools have been required, the only last thing needed is a high place. The only place they can find this is the nanotechnology building. Miguel claims he is going to "Scout it out" at night, but his intentions are different. He steals the nano machinery from his friends and heads into the building, careful of security. He robs a security officer of his gun, and holds a nano programmer at gunpoint, asking him to double check the technology program and give instructions. After, he is discovered and runs while being fired at to the roof access.Miguel decides that the nano machinery in the building could not be used responsibly, with the amazing power held withing. He calls the acid rain and jumps from the building. On his decent, he shoots the core reactor, combusting the building. The amnesiac sees this on TV, and see's a bible in Miguel's things. Astonished by his bravery throughout his ordeals, he starts to open the book, then hesitates. He claims he has seen god's will and doesn't need to read it, for he has witnessed god. The novel ends with a voice whispering "Walk by faith, not by sight" in the amnesiacs ear, a quote commonly said by Miguel. The amnesiac disconnects his EKG, and runs out of the asylum. Resolved Question: Does anyone Agree with this?

I use to have a bad case of acne and it's almost completely fixed now due to 2 very concentrated creams and pills. but I noticed that If I would have just used some basic skin products like cleansers and stuff daily i could have avoided the whole problem. Now the reason i never used these things were because, like most guys, I had to think these things were unmanly, maybe it was just the whole big ego thing. But I also think that the fact the media points almost all skin care advertisements towards women and teen girls us guys feel less compelled to buy it. So what i am asking is 1.Do you think using these products is "unmanly"? 2.Why doesn't the media target both guys and girls, when it could make them more money? more

Voting Question: I have a few questions about my hair?

My hair is naturally a medium ash brown color with cascading, not spiral wave. I have not seen my virgin hair since I was 14 years old! I have been bleaching, dyeing, and perming my hair since I was a teen. I have recently tried to go platinum, and it just didn't work out. The other night, I dyed my hair back to medium brown, and I love it. I need to know what shampoo is the best for keeping the color in my hair, and what on earth, other than just letting it grow out, can I do to bring back the natural wave in my hair? I've got this unusual cascading uniform wave throughout my hair that I just don't want to lose! And, most importantly, what is the best conditioner, period, for my shoulder-length, fried, damaged hair? I would be most appreciative if someone can answer these questions for me! I do not want to have to cut my hair really short because of bleach damage! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: if your daughter showed you this would you let her wear tampons?

When can your daughter first use a tampon? As soon as she begins menstruating. Although some girls prefer using pads for a few cycles to see how heavy or light their flow is, many girls use tampons right from the start. Some mothers are concerned about tampon use and virginity. Since the definition of a virgin is a person who has not had sexual intercourse, tampon use clearly does not affect virginity. If the concern is really about the hymen, it is important to realize that the hymen is a flexible membrane that only partially covers the vaginal opening. The hymen has an opening that allows menstrual fluid out, and a tampon can be inserted into that same opening. Feeling confident is one reason many girls prefer tampons over pads. Tampons are discreet and help a girl keep her period private. Using flushable applicator tampons means the tampon, applicator and wrapper can all be flushed away. Tampons can be worn confidently under bike shorts, a leotard or a bathing suit without showing. With a tampon, a girl can swim, shower, and bathe while she has her period. And because tampons are worn internally, there's less reason to worry about odor. Internal protection also means natural odor protection. They're also convenient- and compact enough to be carried in a small purse. [A variety of tampons are available today. We recommend the use of Tampax Satin Teen tampons for the beginner since they have a smooth applicator, and rounded tip for comfortable insertion.] Tampons are easy to insert, after a little practice, but can seem tricky the first time. Offer a few suggestions: that she relax, for example, and remember to angle the tampon back, following the angle of the vagina Be available if your daughter has questions, but then give her the privacy she needs. Once your daughter starts using tampons, it's important for her to use the right tampon absorbency for her flow. Because menstrual flow varies, tampons come in several different absorbencies. Make sure she understands that during one period, the amount of flow will vary, and she should switch tampon absorbencies as needed. The absorbency rating, which is labeled on each box, indicates how much fluid a tampon can hold. For days of light or medium flow, TAMPAX® Lites, or Regular is suggested. Super is for medium to heavy flow. To help your daughter choose the tampon with the minimum absorbency for her needs, explain this simple test: start with regular absorbency tampons. If the tampon absorbs as much as it can in less than four hours, she should remove that tampon and switch to the next higher absorbency. If she removes a tampon after six or more hours and a lot of white fiber is still showing, she should switch to a lower absorbency. It is important for your daughter to know about toxic-shock syndrome (TSS). TSS is a rare but potentially serious disease that anyone can get, and that has been associated with tampon use. Cases have also been reported in men, children, and in women who did not have their period. Very few people get TSS, but it is sensible to know what the symptoms are: a sudden fever of 102 degrees F [39 degrees C] or more; vomiting; diarrhea; muscle aches; a rash that looks like a sunburn; dizziness; and fainting or near fainting when standing up. TSS feels like the flu but can quickly turn very serious. If your daughter complains of any of these signs and she is wearing a tampon, she should take the tampon out right away and call a doctor. Inform the doctor that she has been wearing a tampon and might have TSS. Anyone who has had TSS symptoms should get medical advice before wearing tampons again. For more information, you and your daughter should both read the instruction leaflet that's in every package of tampons. i copied this from the website:http://www.bodymatters.com/mothertodaughter2.php?topic=7_1_2 and also if your daughter was going to show you this when and how should she bring this up.. more

Resolved Question: TEENS: Who should get pregnant in my novel?

I'm writing a novel -- the plot is complicated, so basically think of it like "The Secret Life of The American Teenager" except less sex-oriented, because of how each character has a story. It will be narrated between several different characters in high school, and I was thinking for the climax a couple gets pregnant. I'm not sure if I'm going to do this, but I might -- if I ever needed to add something to the story. Originally I was going to have Sam/Nathan get pregnant, but I already wrote a book where two characters (similar to them) had a child, so I think it would be boring to do that again. But I'm not sure. Choices: Sam/Nathan - They have a love/hate relationship throughout, and are always best friends no matter what. Sam is aggressive and somewhat of a bully, also blunt and sarcastic. While Nathan is shy, a bit awkward but is extremely intelligent (but he's not a COMPLETE nerd -- just somewhat.) In the book I KNOW that they're going to have sex - or a make out scene. If I could compare it to any relationship in the media, I would say that their relationship resembles Sam/Freddie on iCarly. Lena/Zach - Zach is only with Lena for the sex, and Lena has *safe* sex with many guys. Even though she walks through the halls like it's a catwalk, she has many self confidence issues. Zach is a player and is on the football team, but the two also connect on an emotional level. Relationship it's similar to: Adrian/Ricky on "Secret Life." (Not really, but it's the closet I can think of at the moment.) Charlotte/Joe: Charlotte is shy and new at school, and is befriended by Jennifer who's the popular girl. Zach (Joe's brother, also mentioned above) flirts with Charlotte, but then leaves her for Jennifer. Since Joe hates his brother, he and Charlotte team up to get revenge on the two. Relationship it's similar to: Well.. I don't really have any for this couple. **I DON'T REALLY WANT CHARLOTTE TO GET PREGNANT BECAUSE THEIR IS SO MUCH ALREADY GOING ON WITH THIS PAIR.** But if it's what the people want.. xP yeahhh. Miranda/Zach: These two don't really have a relationship, but I think they should later on. Zach will probably take advantage of Miranda and she'll get pregnant, possibly. Miranda used to be popular, and is now shy. She is the 'innocent one' but is trying to be rebellious to win back Jennifer's friendship. Now she hangs out with Nathan and Sam. Relationship it reminds me of: ..None. But I guess Carly Shay from iCarly and Ricky Underwood from "Secret Life" .. paired together. So, which couple do you like best and which do you think would be good to get pregnant in my novel? Like, which would be the most interesting? I just want your opinions. Please explain why as well, if possible. Thank you! =] - OCDScratch that.. rule out Lena and Zach. I really don't like that couple so I doubt I could make them have a baby.. more

Voting Question: Why am I getting Sims 2 Seasons Error Messages?

I un-installed all of my Sims 2 Expansion Packs, and the base game (I have Double Deluxe as my base game) and I re-installed Sims 2 Double Deluxe. Now I'm installing Sims 2 Seasons again, and I got an error message at 61% and I keep clicking retry and it immediately comes back up. What should I do to fix it? This is the error message: 'A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'E:\Support\European Help Files\Es\Updating_your_sound_driver.htm' from the media' And I click retry and it comes up again. Don't tell me I don't have a good enough computer because I had it installed and it worked fine with Double Deluxe, Seasons, University, Pets, Apartment Life, Freetime, and Teen Style Stuff. But it stopped working so I un-installed Teen Stuff a long time ago and it still didn't work. So I just un-installed it all and am trying to re-install it. What should I do? more

Voting Question: If teens were practicing safe sex, would parents care as much?

If every teen was being safe when having sex, would people still have such a problem with it? It seems like all i hear about now on TV or the media is about how teen pregnancies are going up and about STI's and STD's. more

Resolved Question: Teens: You think people scared to keep it real or was I wrong.?

Look; we had a debut in speech class and It was my turn to start the speech. So I wanted to talk about the Media and racism. So I kelp it real and told them that the media Value white people more than black people/ and Hispanics. My example was; one of my Friend sister was missing (Hispanic) and had very little to almost no media attention. But when this white girl, same age was Mission went Nation Wide, on America most wanted, had interviews from the parents, everything. Then I made anther point saying that some people (including whites) act in a negative matter cuz Society expect them to act like that. I mean if somebody calling you a animal your whole life, then I think you going to start to act like one and be;live like one (like the story ugly duckling) . My Example was my life growing up up, but that's anther story. ONCE Again everybody in class disagree with me. Was I wrong in the debut or was I just keeping it to real for people. more

Resolved Question: Fun workshop ideas for teen ESL students?

I'm doing a 3 hour workshop for 8 weeks with teens who are learning English and need some fun ideas for them, preferably something that will enable me to teach a lot over a period of time instead of something that can be taught in one workshop day. My current ideas are: blog/vlog workshop, mixed media art, photography etc. The workshop needs to be something that will help them express themselves as well as help them to learn English in a creative way. I'm not the one teaching them English so anything strictly focused on learning the language won't do. And no games either. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Having SAFE SEX young is NOT always a bad thing?

I am absolutely sick of seeing the same answer to young girls curious about having sex with their boyfriends; "DON'T DO IT. YOU'LL REGRET IT, IT'LL BE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE, YOU'RE TOO YOUNG, EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, IT'LL DAMAGE YOU" This sort of reply puts more of an unnessicary taboo on sex than there already is! All this irrational bullcrap that is totally untrue. Society underestimates the maturity of teenage girls, and of course there are some total dummies, but those that are bright enough to question sex and the impact of it should not be replied to in a way that implies they are children. It's frustrating to be treated like a child when you're having adult thoughts, adult impulses, and the adult maturity to speak up and ask questions. Here's my view. I'm nearly seventeen, I had sex at fourteen, with a wonderful guy that i trusted and still trust now. We aren't together anymore, but we're best friends, and i don't regret it at all, in fact i barely even think about it. Losing your virginity, is NOT a wonderful experience, it's a slightly painful, fumbly, event that almost inevitably includes somebody banging their head or falling off the bed. Get rid of the pre-misconceptions you have of this spectacular romantic event that media creates. Sex is sex, nothing more, nothing less, and it doesn't have to be this hyped up ridiculous issue that people make it out to be. Here's the deal, if you want to have sex, have sex, but make sure you're COMFORTABLE with the person, and you do it safely. Don't get pregnant. The facts are, britain and america have massively high teen sex and teen pregnancy statistics, and do you know why that is? It's because society as a whole put a tabboo on it, and by making it out to be a dangerous, damaging thing, it becomes appealing and rebellious to angst ridden teenagers wanting to do something out of the ordinary, people need to relax, answer questions, and stop trying to convince teenagers to not have sex. Just help them to do it safely. And there it is again, as long as people have the first two answers do, pregnancy statistics will continue to go up. Maybe you should be more intent on talking contraceptives and safe sex, instead of abstinence. The first person, i'm not a know it all, but i know all there is to know about safe sex, and there's 30 plus year old women out there that have sex more recklessly than i do, and more so than many other teenagers do. more

Resolved Question: Why do cons complain about Dems trying to "control" them but demand we share their religious morality?

If they had their way, who would be more controlling than the Religious Right? It's not enough that they follow the whims of the Magic Sky Dad but it's in their desire for everyone else to as well. Opposition to gay or trans rights, laws that imprison teens and brand them as pedophiles for sexting their lovers, attempts to outlaw abortion, birth control, sex education and in no uncertain terms desiring the return of women to their God-appointed duty of kitchen slave and baby factory, censorship of the media and internet, furors over seeing a boob (the humanity!), prohibition of drugs, alcohol, sex, rock music or anything else that might be seen as fun, a few moments respite from God-gifted misery on earth. But of course no contradiction is found with their hearty support of corporal punishment, "free speech zones", executions (even of the retarded), torture, unrestrained warfare for basically no reason at all (though plenty are not shy about taking advantage of it for proselytizing reasons), curtailing civic liberties to fight terror or crime, cramming as many people into jail as possible, and laissez faire capitalism, which ensures that the only people with any meaningful control of the world around them are the limited number of the privileged class (a natural successor to slavery, which they used the Bible to defend). And the missionaries spread the good word to places like Africa causing fun stuff like children being burnt alive because they are witches or drafting laws that would make homosexuality punishable by death. If they really could implement their ideal society in America what would make us look any different from Saudi Arabia or Iran except with Pentecostal Christianity instead of Islam? more

Resolved Question: How does the media effect teens?

Im doing a project on how the media effects teens in America and possibly around the world. In doing this, I must also cover how the media only covers the bad choices of teens. (For example, magazines tell how teens are having sex and might give sex tips, which some teens take as all normal teens have sex. When the magazine doesn't cover how more than half of teens in America do NOT have sex.) Something along those lines. I need opinions, and websites or blogs regarding the teen ethics and morals dismissed by the media. Thank you so much! Any input is very much appriciated!!:) more

Voting Question: going from blonde to brunette if..?

I was born a dark brunette, but as soon as i hit my teens, got a full head of blonde highlights. They looked natural and beautiful on me, and I've had them ever since. Voting Question: What is a very simple, yet pretty everyday eye look for a teen?

So I've been looking for some nice eye shadows that I can wear everyday. Something that will look nice with some black liquid liner or brown eyeliner that will be appropriate for school. I heard a lot from the Stila smudge pot and eyeshadow in Kitten, MAC All That Glitters, and the Benefit creaseless cream, but I don't really know which one would be the best and what color to get. I wear a Medium/Dark in the MAC MSF Natural and I feel like some colors will look to light on me. So do you have any suggestions? I'm just looking for a very simple, natural, but pretty eye look. I'm only 14 so I kind of don't want to use 5 different colors for one look, probably at the most 3. Thanks! :) more

Voting Question: Please review this short/medium length piece? (fantasy, mystery, supernatural)?

Don't mention Twilight, or any other teen angst vampire novels. This is not like that. -Thanks. *** It's funny how, in the face of death, I felt no fear. Funny, yet staggeringly real. The aspect of death seemed to calm me. Almost as if my mind had already shut down, realising there was no point in fighting the inevitable. “Given up so soon?” The hushed whisper was like a shuddering chill, impossible to stop and wholly overpowering. “Like hell.” I gasped, the words tumbling from my lips. Several strands of wiry blonde hair were beginning to mingle with the blood slowly dribbling out of a deep cut above my eye, making it hard for me to see. “Still as stubborn as ever, I see.” A sharp pain shot through my lower left rib. It was definitely broken, and the way he was going, my lungs were next. I rolled onto my side, fighting back the urge to vomit as a wave of nausea rolled through me. I wasn't going down without a fight, I had decided this earlier, but now the possibility seemed faint. The sound of fingers drumming on wood acted as reassurance that I was still alive, and still fighting. “Rose, Rose, Rose. What will we do with you.” The snide remark made be want to throw myself at him, all limbs involved in the attack. Of course, that wouldn't do. He would merely break another bone, prolonging the agony I currently endured. “You will come to regret what you did.” Finally, my attempt at holding back the urge to vomit weakened, and a rush of hot sick rushed out of my mouth and onto his polished bronze shoes. Good, I thought, I hope they were expensive. I heard the low snarl rip from his throat, and in a mere instant, he bent down and gripped my hair. Tugging slightly, he lowered his head to mine so they were level and spat right in my eye. To be honest, I had been expecting worse. Maybe a broken nose, or possibly even another fractured limb. Then it struck me. He wanted me alive. For what reason, I didn't know. A weight seemed to dissipate from my shoulders, and for the first time in months, I felt like I had a purpose. I began formulating a sarcastic comment when I heard a dull thud and a groan. I fumbled with my thoughts for several moments before I turned my head slightly. Marcus had fallen to his knees, a dark stain spreading outward from the point the arrow had struck. His eyes darted around the room before finally glazing over and closing. The body of my captor slumped to the hardwood floor, sinking the arrow further in. A final breath convulsed through him before he lay still. Emotions bubbled dangerously within me. I wanted to cry, shout, yell, scream and celebrate all at the same time. Marcus Brude had just been killed, and my life had been spared. Yet, there was still the possibility I would be next. “Wh-who's there?” My voice cracked, my throat sore from the lack of liquid. Silence ensued, before finally footsteps resounded and suddenly paused. I snapped my head to thex right, where two large black leather boots stood firmly planted, a pair of brown trousers falling over the top of them. “God damn it.” A husky voice cursed above me. Slowly, my eyes trailed up the bulky figure of a man, his stubble looking overgrown. He had dull, misted eyes, and a heavy brow line. I instantly recognised him, and a trill of fear gripped me. I had just been saved by a Dramonian, a family that had hunted my kind since the outing of vampires. A final stab of pain in my left arm, and I felt thick substance slowly pass through my veins. My eyelids began to droop, but I fought. Tendrils of sleep constricted my last conscious effort, and I felt the darkness slowly pull me under until I was consumed. more

Resolved Question: Is my teen bedroom a good idea?

Hi, sorry I asked a question similar to this. So, right now I have this really cool green distressed bed and Im keeping that. But im getting rid of all my other stuff. I want my room to be functional and organized but minimalistic. Im going for a romantic modern look. So I want to paint my walls a deep raspberry, pinkish color. And I have this really cool glaze that you paint jagged and it makes more texture. It also makes the room kinda glow with a lamp. (not like the kiddy glow in the dark stuff) I have one wall with 2 connected big sliding windows. And another wall with 2 windows separated about 3 feet. Its on the smaller side of medium. I wanted to put my bed on the wall kinda like a day bed, and put nice light pillows that won't sink in with the wall. I would have a desk/dresser with like tho one in this picture (but I haven't decided on the color. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/bedroom/tools/rooms_bedroom So I can put makeup and stuff on top. But I would want a smaller dresser for socks, etc. My mom and i think its a great idea, and ive loved this color and been wanting to paint my room this way for 3 years. But will the walls make me look to dark, even with the cool glaze? Other things you should know about me -im 13 -i'm a dancer -im upbeat -i hate the green and blue thing everyone is doing Thank you in advance!!!! more
