moreResolved Question: Anyone surprised that another Far Left Liberal talk radio goes bankrupt due to lack of support?
It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.
The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America's business. This past year has seen a "perfect storm" in the media industry generally. National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry's long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing times.

moreVoting Question: Question about hotjobs.com. Which option below would you choose and why?
Now, join the decision team at hotjobs.com. Which option would you choose and why?
*Option1: Focus on a few major cities or on employment in one industry.
- Because the biggest job markets (and potential revenue) are in handful of U.S cities, Dimitri could spend precious advertising dollars selectively by remaining a specialist in technical jobs only or by focusing exclusively on the New York area. But, Hotjob's profits would be limited and vulnerable to local market conditions. Furthermore, online companies were attracting investors, so if Dimitri didn't position Hotjobs as a national player, he might miss his window of opportunity. Well-funded competitors would go national, then return to the local markets and crush Hotjobs.
*Option 2: Act local, look national.
- By focusing advertising on the country's top seven markets, Dimitri could concentrate his sales force in Hotjobs' regional territories (espacially New York where the national media is strong), hitting each with short blasts of a multimedia and telemarketing campaign. This option would include limited spending on national television advertising, giving Dimitri more bang for his advertising buck while establishing Hotjobs as a premium players. It would also allow messages to be customized to each city. However, a poorly planned and executed advertising message could make Hotjobs seem like a Low-budget, regional player-making larger companies and job seekers reluctant to sign up for a company they perceived as too small.
*Option 3: Advertise aggressively to position Hotjobs as a national brand
- By coming out fighting on a national level in this new industry, Hotjobs would get a head start by establishing itself as a leader in the business for years to come. But, Hotjobs' main competitor Monster.com was better funded and already had an established public image. With much less money to invest, Dimitri could end up with no brand image while exhausting his limited advertising dollars.
Thank you for your time :)
moreResolved Question: Do you think I'm being scammed ?
I've advertised a room for rent on Craigslist. A women form S.Africa has responded saying she is coming to England for a 6month media course with the BBC in Bristol. She wants to send me SA$3000 in advance and then I'm to purchase her airline tickets and deduct a months rent......here's the e-mail.......... ******About payment:
I intend arriving 10 december. My 1 month Voice grooming at the local
BBc radio at Bristol start 5th January 2010. Probs is ive been granted
a $3,000 travel cheque (equivalent £1,700GBP) to pay for my
accommodation and flight ticket inclusive. It was supposed to be
arranged by agency. I found that most UK agencies charge exhobitant
handling fees! And their room rent per month or week are killing too.
So im left with you to help.
So what i plan doing is asking my ceo to re-issue it in your name for
payment of rents/deposit. Ofcourse it will include money for my flight
ticket. Thus after you deduct your rent amount, you will give £700GBP
to the SAA agency to book my flight from your side. Simply go cash the
cheque from the airport or any uk post office.
My time is close at hand, very near. If you are willing , let me call
you to explain further. Or simply give me name to issue it in and
address to send it by courier on or before banking hours of Friday.
Is it okay? *******
Is it some sort of scam? Moneylaundering perhaps ?I know it's a scam.....I'm just wondering exactly how they benefit. I don't quite get how they make money.
What good are the air tickets?
moreResolved Question: Why do some people play the race card all the time?
Okay, one thing happened a little while ago in class. I am taking a mass media class, by the way, and the class was talking about advertising. I made reference to a commercial I saw years ago that was on BET. It was for a local rapper in my area (I am from Sacramento, CA by the way), and some guy sitting behind me, who happened to have been black was all "Why does it have to be on BET?" and I got a little defensive in the process. In some ways, my defensiveness was justified and later apologized to him saying that it WAS that channel I saw that ad on and that it was years ago that I saw it, so it wasn't really recent. All I want to know is why did he have to make it seem like I was being racial? Nothing racist about it because it was the exact channel that I saw it on. But why do people do this? If something bad were to happen to me or anything of that nature, I wouldn't say it was because The Man is holding hispanics back by any means. I look at any ethnic group the same way as anybody else: Tend to look past the background and into personality. If you ever even saw what I looked like, you'd probably think I was white, which is looked at more than latinos, but either way, I can never understand why some people do that. It would be the same way if I got that reaction from a gay person if I saw a particular ad on the LOGO channel.
moreVoting Question: I need a sexual relationship with a woman my age, but feel physically attracted 2 girls younger than me. Help?
Okay, I'm almost 37 and I haven't had any serious romance or sex (heaven forbid sex at that age) throughout my years in jr. & sr. high school. I wasn't seriously kissed until I was 19 (puppy love smooching with the same girl in gr. 1 & 3 doesn't count). I've got to first base with several other girls since then (some of them short-time girlfriends), but didn't go any further simply because I'm afraid of STDs. I'm shy and I like to view sex as sacred, but many times, I couldn't stand being a virgin anymore and I tried losing my virginity to an easy girl and very few prostitutes throughout my 20's in order to be cool, accepted, and "grown-up" so I could say that, "I got laid", but to no avail because I couldn't "get it up." I FINALLY lost my virginity at age 32 to a legal escort, but the sex was very short, cheap, and not special like I want it to be with that special someone in the future.
Like I said, I haven't had any romance, sex, or girlfriends throughout high school and this breaks my heart because I feel like such a loser and I KNOW I deserved better. I STILL deserve better now! I was just hardly at all outgoing and social because of the anxiety disorders I have and still have (OCD being one of them). Society and the media weren't as obsessed about sex back then like they are now - IT'S PRACTICALLY EVERYWHERE!!! T.V., movies, music, books, I could go on!!! It's at your local WAL-MART and on magazine racks at checkout stands!!! I don't wanna be exposed to that when I'm already feeling bad like this!!! It also brings to light that much more how much I missed out on when I was a teenager because I see all of these hot, cute looking teenage girls with their fair skin and playfulness kiss their boyfriends, some have babies at that age - and I'm being exposed to this in society! This hurts me and it makes me so jealous that I want to lash out in anger. Sometimes I wish I could go into a time machine and go back to when I was a teenager again. Don't get me wrong - I keep this to myself and know better not to pursue anyone under 18 now. I need a more mature woman anyway to share my life with - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I tell my counselor, relatives, and my best friend about my problems, too. I know it's not socially acceptable for me to FEEL attracted to teenage girls that way, but you can't really blame me when there are racy and sexual teen soap operas being advertised and shown, talking about their kids and showing them off in strollers and carriages like novelty items like it's a cool trend, "Oh, look at me - I'm hip - I'm a mom now", bragging about sex they had, teen girls dolling themselves up like attractive princesses - and even worse - dolling themselves up like whores!!! The general media isn't helping any either!!! Parents, please do your jobs raising your kids up properly. What is this world coming to?!
It's not just the teenage couples - it's couples of all other ages (ages 20-59) that make me feel insecure because they are out and about making out, talking and joking about sex like sex is such a big deal, again, I could go on. I just wish that the media, society, and the things/advertisements around me would show a little modesty and not be THAT OPEN about sex and kissing - it makes me feel bad and only pressures me to jump into a relationship and sex way too quickly again - not because I really want a relationship at that time (other than wanting a monogamous shallow and physical "come and go as you please" type of relationship), but to have a relationship in order to feel "in" and "with the hip crowd."
Look, I'm venting a little because I feel insecure in society. I could choose to date and find my romantic woman around my age way later because actually, I enjoy many aspects of being single. There's no one to answer to, more freedom, etc. to do what I want when I want. I'm very comfortable in that and I realize that I will have to make serious sacrifices if I want a true, loving, and sexual relationship with a woman. Some people probably have an issue with me about me not wearing shoes at the college and some other public places. I just like to be in socks or barefoot because I have a foot fetish and it's comfortable. It's a personal preference and I hope it doesn't have to be one of the sacrifices that I have to make for my woman in the future. It would be nice if more women could understand my foot fetish and not call me a freak about it. I love my own feet, and I love women's feet as well. One of the things that I'd like to do on a romantic date is to walk barefoot or sock-foot somewhere, whether it's in public or not.

In today’s society, gender stereotypes are becoming more prevalent and the ability to maintain a unique identity is being overcome by materialistic possessions. The public is being overwhelmed by ads showing us what our bodies should look like and thus creating an unattainable goal, especially with females. Psychological and physical bodily harm is on the rise pertaining to both males and females, as people compare themselves to the appearances of celebrities.
As the media twists our perception of how we should look by their presentation of celebrities, the desire to have their bodies becomes greater. Their bodies are portrayed as ‘perfect’, and subsequently, that is who we compare our physical appearance to. A good example of a controversial media-related event is the former Ralph Lauren model, Filippa Hamilton. She is a 23-year-old female weighing 120lbs at 5’10” who was fired for being overweight after working at Ralph Lauren since she was 15. According to Ralph Lauren, she was let off “as a result of an inability to meet the obligations under her contract”. Many people argue that she is underweight and Ralph Lauren admits that (in an enhanced image of the model) the company was responsible for the poor retouching which led to a distorted photograph of a woman’s body. They promise to change their artwork to represent their brand in an appropriate manner. This event shows us the stereotype that women should be very skinny, making them attractive.
From the perspective of the media, beauty implies characteristics such as tall, young and athletic. This is becoming a growing problem because the media is creating an unreachable goal for people, especially young adults. As the population struggles to attain the ‘norm’, cosmetic companies and surgeons reap the benefits and make billions, claiming to have a ‘cure’ and the ability to make people attractive. But what does it mean to be attractive? Is it to be based on the looks of celebrities? That is the message that the media is delivering.
From a general perspective, it is expected that men are to be good at manual labor, and should be able to fix a car easily. Women are expected to be able to cook and clean but are not required to be able to fix a car, or perform manual labor. These traits are portrayed throughout ads and television shows. They are wrong and very withholding, concerning the abilities of both males and females.
Much harm is being done both psychologically and physically to many people who idolize certain celebrities. They feel as though they need to look as skinny or as muscular as their idol, while their self-confidence is being torn down in the process. They feel discontent and frustration at the realization of not being able to look a certain way or be able to have certain clothes. Stress is another result and in most cases can be detrimental to one’s health. The media can make the general public feel uncomfortable with their bodily image and substitute an alternate image for us to try to achieve.
The media cannot be seen advertising diversity because that would go against their mindset of attaining a certain look. The issue of gender stereotyping is still a problem today with females being the primary targets. Eating disorders for males are on the rise and there are more and more ads affecting people everyday. It is not a simple matter of ignoring it, because there is ads everywhere-on television, on billboards, in magazines, and even on the Internet. Fairness and equality are absolutely necessary. We can achieve this by being aware of what the stereotypes are.
moreResolved Question: Do most people know the boy and the balloon were a ratings boost story?
I work in the media and I noticed some callers to radio stations and questions on Yahoo about how the media ran the boy and the run-a-way balloon story mainly for the ratings. Well, guess what??? Well, I work in the media and people do not like to hear this, but if that little boy had not been in a balloon and there had not been the visual effect of a UFO like object, nope, we would not have covered the story. Black hearted? Yep! Welcome to the real world and this is how the media works today. If it bleeds, it reads. I actually had a story about an abused child in my local community and they made me drop that to cover the small boy and the fly-a-way balloon yesterday. This child got more help in those few hours than this truly abused child will ever get. But the abused child in my town does not have a potentially high-ratings attention-grabbing angle like a run-a-way balloon has. For some reason, I learned that people just do not like to hear that your local paper, your local news station, your favorite talk show are all about ratings and all about advertising dollars. Money is always the bottom line. As for me, I will continue to try to help this abused child. I'm happy for any child that is helped, whether in a run-a-way balloon or in an abusive environment. All children need help and deserve a chance. As much attention and energy as was generated for Falcon and his safety....Please put that much energy into helping a child in your local community. Just because a child is not flying in a UFO balloon, does not mean that he/she does not deserve attention.
Anyway, if I bursted anyone's fantasy that the media is not all about ratings and money...sorry. But welcome to the real world. Money rules. Do I like that? No, but it pays my rent and is building my retirement. Sometimes, I feel hypocritical to cover one story and ignore another, but I try to do some good and get the truth out, and not be caught up in the ratings-driven world of today's media.
moreResolved Question: What are your thoughts on this Business to Business Marketing case scenario?
I am piecing together information about this case to come up with possible solutions, what are your thoughts on the situation and what would you do? It's always nice to get another viewpoint. Thanks!
You are the sales manager for a nationally known firm, Maverick Industries, which designs, produces and provides industrial hardware and support services to manufacturers. You have just been given the challenge, by your supervisor, to pursue and secure the business of a new customer, a major, multi-location manufacturer of defense products in your territory.
The firm you are pursuing, Bluejay Enterprises, has been in business for over 50 years. It was founded in a suburb of the major metropolitan area where you reside and has been a “pillar” of the community for decades. The Company originated with modest beginnings but has now grown into a large and powerful leader in its industry. It has expanded its operations through the development of “Greenfield” (new construction) site locations and acquisitions of other manufacturers over the years. In addition, it has gained a reputation for high quality, reliable products but has never been known as the “low-priced” provider among its competition. It also has extremely rigorous criteria that it uses when selecting a source of supply.
Bluejay has recently undertaken a new project for one of its long-standing customers. Their customer has very high expectations of the product/service quality and prompt delivery requirements in support of its JIT inventory management philosophy. The project involves the development of a new product with innovative features that could revolutionize the industry. Bluejay currently has several reliable suppliers who have provided hardware products in the past. However, the design and application of this product are so unique and revolutionary that there is some question whether Bluejay’s current suppliers are capable of providing what is needed. Also, due to the nature of the project there is a great deal of interest from the local and national news media about the product, those involved with its creation and the influence on national defense.
Your company (Maverick) has an outstanding design and production functions and is known for its innovative and state-of-the-art capabilities. Your firm also has a reputation for producing high quality products, but recently had a major layoff of workers and has experienced delays in product shipments to customers due to lower than normal inventories which has resulted in negative publicity and advertising by your competitors. However, even with the existence of this situation it appears to be an excellent opportunity for you and your firm to secure Bluejay’s business.
The challenge you face, as a new potential supplier, is how to pursue the customer and secure the initial order from Bluejay. You are also to build into your strategy how you intend to become a recurring source of supply for this new product and other industrial hardware needs that Bluejay may require in the future. In addition, you are to identify any other customers who may have an interest in the products you provide and build a case (to be presented by your senior management) why Maverick should consider expanding its business in this area.

The Sea Wharf Restaurant would like to determine the best way to allocate a monthly advertising budget of $1000 between newspaper advertising and radio advertising. Management has decided that at least 25% of the budget must be spent on each type of media, and that the amount of money spent on local newspaper advertising must be at least twice the amount spent on radio advertising. A marketing consultant has developed an index that measures audience exposure per dollar of advertising on a scale from 0 to 100, with higher values implying greater audience exposure. If the value of the index for local newspaper advertising is 50 and the value of the index for spot radio advertising is 80, how should the restaurant allocate its advertising budget in order to maximize the value of total audience exposure?
a.) Formulate a linear programming model that can be used to determine how the restaurant should allocate its advertising budget in order to maximize the value of total audience exposure.
b.) Find the optimal solution using the graphical solution procedure.
(The problem I have is this part "the amount of money spent on local newspaper advertising must be at least twice the amount spent on radio advertising", I'm a bit confused of how it should be whether it should be that newspaper should be twice the amount of radio (2x => y) or radio should be twice the amount of newspaper (2y => x))
moreResolved Question: Why is New Zealand's rugby atmosphere so weak?
After watching rugby fans from the NH and South Africa, I began to realise that the crowd atmosphere in New Zealand is really weak and in a way unsupportive.
All around the rugby world, home crowds turn up to their team's games all dressed up and wearing their colours proudly. They sing chants and stay loyal to their team, even after a defeat.
Take the Blue Bulls (from South Africa) for example: (http://www.sportsdigitalcontent.com/uploadedimages/Blue_Bulls_Fan.jpg

In Europe and South Africa, fully-grown men and women enter the stands fully painted in their team's colours, waving flags and singing chants that compliment their team. And they remain loyal to their team. They sell-out the local stadium even when they're lingering at the bottom of the table after four straight defeats. And if they lose, then their team just "had a bad game" or "came up against some good opposition". And the supporters would still turn up next week.
In New Zealand, however, the fans don't dress up. They don't sing chants or wave flags in their teams colours. If a Super 14 team has lost their last few games, NZ supporters won't even bother to watch the game at home let alone get off the couch and go to the stadium. And they certainly aren't as loyal as the fans up north. If they lose, it's because "they're crap" or "they suck" or "they're useless".
Why is this? In my opinion it's because the NZRU and the New Zealand media focus too much advertising on children. Cheering for the team is seen as being childish. For kids. I think that this is why there is a lack of support for our NZ rugby sides. Weet-Bix ads and cartoon-ish mascots have ruined the atmosphere that New Zealand desreves.
If New Zealand wants bigger crowds and a stronger atmosphere, then maybe the advertising needs to be focussed less on children, and more on the mature population. They need to show the public that it's OK to dress-up and cheer on your team.
Whether you agree or disagree, im interested in your opinion.PS: I'm a New Zealander myself, so please don't take offence. I'm simply stating my opinion.

Calls for ‘Confrontational Movement’ to Give Public Broadcasting
Dominant Role in Communications
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
By Matt Cover
Federal Communications Commission headquarters in Washington, D.C. (Photo courtesy of FCC)
(CNSNews.com) – Mark Lloyd, chief diversity officer of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), called for a “confrontational movement” to combat what he claimed was control of the media by international corporations and to re-establish the regulatory power of government through robust public broadcasting and a more powerful FCC.
Lloyd expressed his regulatory call to arms in his 2006 book, “Prologue to a Farce: Communications and Democracy in America” (University of Illinois Press).
In the book, Lloyd also said that public broadcasting should be funded through new license fees charged to the nation’s private radio and television broadcasters, and that new regulatory fees should be used to fund eight new regional FCC offices.
These offices would be responsible for monitoring political advertising and commentary, children’s educational programs, number of commercials, and content ratings of the programs.
Frequently referencing one of his heroes, left-wing activist Saul Alinsky, Lloyd claims in his book that the history of American communications policy has been one of continued corporate control of every form of communication from the telegraph to the Internet.
“Citizen access to popular information has been undermined by bad political decisions,” Lloyd wrote. “These decisions date back to the Jacksonian Democrats’ refusal to allow the Post Office to continue to operate the telegraph service.”
Lloyd claimed that neither technology nor liberal reforms have been able to overcome the damage caused when government fails to give everyone an equal voice.
Throughout history, Lloyd said, “[t]he most powerful communications tool was deliberately placed in the hands of one faction in our republic: commercial industry.”
“Neither Progressive era reforms nor new communications technologies have been able to correct the problems resulting from government abdication of a responsibility to advance the equal capability of citizen discourse,” Lloyd added.
“Corporate liberty has overwhelmed citizen equality,” he wrote.
Government, Lloyd said in his book, is the “only” institution that can manage the communications of the public, arguing that Washington must “ensure” that everyone has an equal ability to communicate.
“The American republic requires the active deliberation of a diverse citizenry, and this, I argue, can be ensured only by our government,” he says. “Put another way, providing for the equal capability of citizens to participate effectively in democratic deliberation is our collective responsibility.”

Lessons for Radicals
Lloyd relies heavily on the left-wing radical Saul Alinsky in explaining his strategy.
Alinsky (1909-1972) was a community organizer and activist from Chicago and the author of the book, Rules for Radicals, which opens with an acknowledgment "to the very first radical ...
Lucifer." As for political tactics, Alinsky said, “The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away. In this book we are concerned with how to create mass organizations to seize power and give it to the people. This means revolution."
With Alinsky as the political guide, Lloyd outlines nine “lessons” that people can draw on when trying to combat international businesses.
1. “Organizing people must be a priority. In order to counter effectively the power of major corporations we understood that we had to be able to demonstrate the support of hundreds of thousands of people. As Alinksy wrote: ‘Change comes from power, and power comes from organization. In order to act, people must get together.’”
2. “Understand where people stand on your issue. Once we were clear that we needed to drum up the support of people, we needed to understand what people knew about our issues. As Alinksy wrote, ‘if people feel they don’t have the power to change a bad situation, then they do not think about it.’”
3. “Connect with groups that have already organized the community. Our means of reaching local communities was through existing national organizations. We reached out to groups that had large constituencies and articulated our message by identifying how our goals fit their core interests.”
4. “The strategy must have an inside and an outside game. For media reform, this means we needed to embrace the necessity of operating both in and outside Washington [D.C.].”
5. “Don’t wait for events to unfold on their own. Pressure, pressure, pressure. If we wanted events to work in a direction that would benefit us, we knew we needed

Q: What is your opinion of this?

The refusal by ABC and NBC to run a national ad critical of President Obama's health care reform plan is raising questions from the group behind the spot -- particularly in light of ABC's health care special aired in prime time last June and hosted at the White House.
The 33-second ad by the League of American Voters, which features a neurosurgeon who warns that a government-run health care system will lead to the rationing of procedures and medicine, began airing two weeks ago on local affiliates of ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS. On a national level, however, ABC and NBC have refused to run the spot in its present form.
"It's a powerful ad," said Bob Adams, executive director of the League of American Voters, a national nonprofit group with 15,000 members who advocate individual liberty and government accountability. "It tells the truth and it really highlights one of the biggest vulnerabilities and problems with this proposed legislation, which is it rations health care and disproportionately will decimate the quality of health care for seniors."
Adams said the advertisement is running on local network affiliates in states like Louisiana, Arkansas, Maine and Pennsylvania. But although CBS has approved the ad for national distribution and talks are ongoing with FOX, NBC has questioned some of the ad's facts while ABC has labeled it "partisan."
"The ABC Television Network has a long-standing policy that we do not sell time for advertising that presents a partisan position on a controversial public issue," spokeswoman Susan Sewell said in a written statement. "Just to be clear, this is a policy for the entire network, not just ABC News."
NBC, meanwhile, said it has not turned down the ad and will reconsider it with some revisions.
"We have not rejected the ad," spokeswoman Liz Fischer told FOXNews.com. "We have communicated with the media agency about some factual claims that require additional substantiation. As always, we are happy to reconsider the ad once these issues are addressed."
Adams objects to ABC's assertion that his group's position is partisan.
"It's a position that we would argue a vast majority of Americans stand behind," he said. "Obviously, it's a message that ABC and the Obama administration haven't received yet."
Dick Morris, a FOX News political analyst and the League of American Voters' chief strategist, conceptualized the advertisement and said its purpose was to "refocus" the debate on health care reform.
"I feel the whole debate on health care reform needed to be refocused on the issue of Medicare," he told FOXNews.com. "Most of the debate had been on issues of socialized medicine and cost. I felt that the impact of the legislation in cutting the Medicare program and enforcing rationing needed to be addressed."
Morris, a onetime advisor to former President Bill Clinton, said he was particularly troubled by ABC's decision not to air the spot.
"It's the ultimate act of chutzpah because ABC is the network that turned itself over completely to Obama for a daylong propaganda fest about health care reform," he said. "For them to be pious and say they will not accept advertising on health care shuts their viewers out from any possible understanding of both sides of this issue."By Joshua Rhett MillerI have seen ads supporting Obama on FOX NEWS.

BEHIND THE MUSIC: THE HAMBURGLAR
The hamburglar is a mythical beast, who travels time and space in a series of inter-connected tubes that originate in a place known by mortal man as the mcdonald-land. Most people over the age of 3 believe that these tubes only go 100 feet, but they are mistaken. The tubes connect for thousands of miles, to different parts of the universe and different planes of existence. Some have said to travel to different dimensions and learned different trains of thought from traveling them. Those who have mastered the tubes have mastered all knowledge.
The mysticism surrounding the hamburglar is very interesting. Some say he’s existed from the beginning of time. Others say he doesn’t exist. I have concluded through numerous interviews of first hand experience that he is immortal, and still lurking somewhere within the tubes, primarily the purple tubes. He was kicked out of the mcdonald land gang by Ronald’s for hanging out in the “red light district” near mcdonald land, and hasn’t returned to his native ground since. This event, called by historians “the booting of the meat lover”, probably took place thousands of years ago, if at all.
According to legend, the hamburglar had a very strange sexuality…it couldn’t be described in proper terms of heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. More like… “have sex with everything.” It turned him on to stick his meat in between 2 hamburger buns and let the ketchup do the work. You ever wonder how the doughnut or bagel got invented? The hamburglar stuck his schlong into a single half of a bun. In fact, the original cream cheese was made of something between normal cheese that was already on the bun and the hamburglars jizz. He also has/had a strange fetish of chopped off penises. An interesting fact regarding this topic: Mcdonalds provided hot dogs at the 1957 World Series. Mcdonalds never served hot dogs before or after this. Most of them were small, shriveled up, and disgusting. They were advertised as “mini-dogs”. A spokesperson said to the camera’s “thanks to the hamburglar for providing these…” which is the strangest fact yet, because mcdonalds cited the hamburglar as being faked and dismissed him as a myth on several occasions within previous years.
The fact that the one spoken of wasn’t part of the McDonald land gang was destroyed when mcdonalds started using him again in a 1970’s advertisement campaign. Of course, mcdonalds denied that any of the characters used in advertisement were real and that the spokesperson who had said that he provided the hotdogs was probably just high when he mentioned that line.
There were a few mortal men who had traveled the galactical line of tubes and talked to Ronald mcdonald and the gang himself. According to them, the mystical one was kicked out of the gang long ago, and the higher-ups of mcdonalds forced them to let him rejoin for marketing purposes. And according to them, when all of the other people of the mcdonald land gang would be having fun playing in the park, the hamburglar would be tripping on acid and taking N2O whippets. The people who claimed this were soon murdered by CIA agents. A conspiracy lie deep within the mcdonalds corporation and US government, and within the next few days I will attempt to unmask it.
BEHIND THE MUSIC-THE HAMBURGLAR: part II
The following police report you are about to read wasn’t covered by the mainstream media. In fact, the only place that ran the story was an independent local station near where it happened. A day later, a madman with the nickname “Texas Dan” escaped from prison and went through the place with a machine gun killing everyone. Some say guards let him out.
Big Bend, WI: The Time, between 1:30 AM and 3:00, the date: September 3rd 1993, the place, A local mcdonalds, the crime: Child molestation, rape, mutilation, and intent to kill a minor.
A local woman, who was prostituting to truckers, had left her son, Adam, age 3, at the local 24/7 mcdonalds play-place. The Play-place is where the hamburglar usually spends his time, and he was currently recording himself shoving French fries up his ass, trying to break the world record. The staff didn’t notice the woman and her son walking in, because they were to busy having an orgy in the back freezer. She dropped him off, kissed him goodbye, said “mommies going to work”. The hamburglar heard them approaching and scrambled deeper within the tubes to hide. After the mother left, Adam went into the ball pit. The hamburglar edged closer to him, and left his shitty, raw, fries lying on the ground.
What happened next is one of the most disgusting and perverted tales told in American history. It has never been dealt with correctly because anyone that mentions a word about it has been shot.
“First he asked me to come up to his place,” says the traumatized boy to the police. “The purple tubes”. The hamburglar allegedly told Adam they were going to play aApparently they deleted most of it....whatever :(

Managing the Marketing Function
Media Impact Group (MIG) is a large advertising agency home based in Tokyo and Kumamoto and with several newer divisions in other cities across Japan. MIG specializes in consumer service clients including food chains, resorts, and theater operators. Headquarters in Tokyo is eager to develop a larger client base in the lodging industry.
Besides having made the company's initial reputation and continuing to provide financial and administrative management, headquarters also offers expertise, data bases, and other knowledge resources for the local offices. When a local office wins a bid, it receives 20% of the revenues. The Tokyo and Kumamoto offices jointly receive over 50% of the revenues with the remainder distributed to all other offices. Local offices absorb the cost of preparing specific bids; although they can draw on headquarter expertise. Local managers' pay includes a salary and a large bonus, 50 % of which is based on the office's current profitability, and the other 50 % based on overall company profitability.
The Quality Inn chain has just approached the Kumamoto office with a request for a bid on an advertising contract estimated to require over 6,000 hours per year for 3 years. Quality has made it clear that the billing rate for the winning bid will not exceed $120 per hour, although the industry standard for this type of contract is $140 per hour. The bidding is expected to be intense with at least six other agencies willing to prepare bids.
Nathan estimates the minimum cost of a credible bid will be $200,000. Moreover, given the current heavy workload, Nathan will have difficulty finding individuals with time to prepare the bid. As the Vice President in charge of the Kumamoto office, Nathan is reluctant to attempt the bid.

US firm to close branch due to lack of employees

US firm to close branch due to lack of employees AFP/File – A Filipino call center worker from the Florida, US-based Sykes Enterprises works in front of her terminal …
TAMPA, Florida (AFP) – A Florida-based firm will soon close one of its North Dakota offices for a reason that seems unfathomable during the deepening US recession: it can't find enough employees to hire.
Sykes Enterprises, which specializes in creating and maintaining computer customer care services for corporations, opened a telephone call center in Minot, North Dakota in 1996. Last May, management wanted to increase the number of employees to 450.
Yet an unexpected thing happened: so few people applied for the Minot jobs that the Tampa-headquartered company will have to close the call center on May 10 -- a cutback by Sykes that will result in 200 people losing their jobs.
"We've been working for several months there (in Minot) to find enough applicants for the work, since we have been experiencing significant growth in the US," said Sykes spokeswoman Andrea Burnett.
She also told AFP that Sykes advertised for many months in the local Minot electronic and press media for applicants.
The state of North Dakota has bucked the national trend which has seen the US economy hemorrhage 651,000 jobs in February, pushing the unemployment rate to a 25-year high of 8.1 percent and pointing to an ever-deepening recession.
But the unemployment rate in North Dakota stood at just 5.1 percent, one of the lowest in the nation.
And Minot in particular has been seemingly recession-proof with the city's economy being based on agricultural commodities and oil production, and with it being the home town of a US Air Force base. The micro-economies of all three are productive, leading to Minot's economic healthiness.
Geography, demographics and weather may have kept outsiders from applying for the jobs. The sparsely populated state of just 640,000 residents is in the far northern Great Plains, one of the remotest regions in the contiguous United States.
Parts of North Dakota, including the northwest where Minot, a city of about 40,000, is located, can be as cold as Alaska during winter months.
Aint what greasy says true? A job dont owe you good money for working like some of you other people said. if they paid well than you guys want to paid for bein sick but what is said is when the illegals leave you guys wont take up the work.
Why do you think no one wants the jobs here?

" March 9 (Bloomberg) -- CBS Corp. and NBC, looking to reduce prime-time programming costs as advertising shrinks, are turning to Canadian television producers for new shows.
Two new programs will air after the current TV season ends in May. CBS, which introduced the Canadian drama “Flashpoint” last year, is adding “The Bridge,” a police series also filmed in Toronto. NBC nabbed “The Listener,” about a telepathic paramedic in the same city.
U.S. networks have made shows in Canada for years to gain tax benefits. Now they are BUYING DRAMAS WRITTEN AND PRODUCED FOR CANADIAN TV and set north of the border. CTV, the nation’s largest private broadcaster, is sharing costs and will air shows at the same time. THE RESULTS ARE LICENSING FEES FOR NEW DRAMAS THAT ARE ABOUT HALF THE TYPICAL $1.6 MILLION PER EPISODE. "

There's more and more talk about renewing the monopoly the "mainstream" media had on the airwaves via the "Fairness" Doctrine, which requires local broadcast stations to give equal time to opposing viewpoints. Wal-Mart's Business Plan
"Let the American taxpayer fund our expenses"
Wal-Mart is the second coming of the 1920 Robber Barons
Wal-Mart Is The Ultimate Predator
It has destroyed 100,000 small businesses, is breaking the union movement, has shipped massive amounts of jobs overseas, and has the news media in it's pocket. They are a version of the Pullman Company, but much more dangerous.
Wal-Mart's Lives On It's Facade
The image of "Sam Walton was just a good old boy" and "Wal-Mart is just a warehouse" is total propaganda. Wal-Mart is peddling the same nonsense the Bolsheviks/Communists used in talking the Russians into destroying their country. Wal-Mart wants you to believe that the company's efficiency, and size, are responsible for the low prices, but that is total BS.
Wal-Mart's price advantage
Third World Countries
This girl makes $1.20 an hour. She replaced a Tennessee housewife that made $14.40 an hour, plus health insurance benefits. The housewife paid taxes which paid for local schools.
You may be buying a $25 item for $20, but it is slowly wrecking your economy, and eventually you will be paying full price. Nike shoes pulled the identical scam, when it gave you $22 sneakers for $12, but as soon as they bankrupted their competitors, you were paying full price.
A Look At Wal-Mart's Costs
Wal-Mart does $260 billion in annual sales, and $180 billion of it is the cost of merchandise, and the rest is land, buildings, advertising, etc. Wal-Mart employs a staff of attorneys and accountants, whose sole function is to shift expenses to the Federal, State and local governments aka the tax payer. States pick up health insurance, unemployment taxes, real estate taxes, electrical, bond financing, etc.
They will negotiate a special fee from their electric power supplier, and guess who picks up the tab.
Outsourcing To The Third World Is A Giant Swindle
Income Taxes
Most of Wal-Mart's $180 billion in merchandise is not made in America. 60% is from out of the country. Their suppliers may be in America, but the merchandise, or major components, are made offshore. Not only does a supplier get cheaper labor, but there are income tax considerations and lax accounting practices. When you trans-ship a product through a 'No income tax country', you inflate the bill and pay less income tax in the US.
The trans-shipping swindle
Made in China Inc Tax
Made in America Inc Tax
Pair of sneakers' cost $ 6.00 Pair of sneakers' cost $25.00

Sold to customer $75.00 $1.50
Sold to customer $75.00 $1.50

$1.50 $5.00
Their Federal Income tax on the sneakers is $1.50 instead of $5.00.
Nike, which could be considered to be a "baby Wal-Mart", with it's Chinese factories, should show a profit of $9 billion on sales of $13 billion, but strangely it only shows a profit of $1.5 billion. China not only provides cheap prices, but enormous opportunities for scamming thanks to trans-shipping and no accounting regulations.
The Consumer Swindle
When the pair of sneakers leave China, it costs $4.00, but once it enters the 'Sea of Trans-Shipping', and the 'Land of Mystery Expenses', the cost skyrockets to $50.00.
Employee Taxes

American worker
Base Wage $ 1.20 Base Wage $14.60 = $ 30,300

By outsourcing the production to China, you have avoided $5,250 in taxes that pay for schools, unemployment, Social Security, Medicare and public services.
Typical Mayor
Typical incentives Wal-Mart gets
States and political hacks prostrate themselves to get Wal-Mart stores in their areas. They will forego 10 years of state income taxes, five years of property taxes, build the infrastructure (roads and power).
Why will local politicians go along?
A super center can cost $20,000,000, and the average skim is 10%. Whose family owns the land Wal-Mart builds on? You have the general contractor who hires favored subcontractors, and there is lots of room for ghost employees and service contracts. There is the always the next election. The same newspapers, that overlook Wal-Mart's predatory practices, can quickly destroy a political career.
Governors Agree...... "What's good for Wal-Mart is good for my state".

On a general note could anyone explain why there is a 'D' Type Notice enforced on the Media (presumably by the major chains) as to just how effective a Product recall has been by individual Retailers or indeed what steps are now in place generally to ensure a repeat performance does not occur.
We have 'League Tables' for Schools/ GovtDepts/Local Govt.
Why not make these Multinationals publish all attributable Data by Group especially as they seem keen to advertise Price comparisons on a knock your nearest Competitor week by week basis.
This is not just Salmonella ... This is .............. Salmonella.
Any Thoughts?
moreResolved Question: Can noone else here under the age of 19 see that the music industry is probably manipulating us?
Because once you start realising it, it starts becoming so very obvious and this counts for those up to the age of 25 or even more too.
I'm talking about all of the absolute GARBAGE I keep hearing everywhere! If I have to listen another tailor made song spat out, without any thought or real talent, at our youth one more time on the radio in the car with my friend I am absolutely gonna puke.
By now I sound like the local preacher, but I am here to bring up a different point today other than 'your music is horrible, yadda yadda yadda.' So please, listen!
First off I want to point out that there are alot of songs still amongst today's youth that are in fact written from the heart and with meaning that do sound good whether I agree with the meaning and support those songs or not.
But what about, for example, a sad large majority of popstars, rapstars, hip hop artists, really quite alot of music can be grouped in this paragraph, that spit out nothing but factory processed garbage that serves no other purpose other than party music or to appear to be 'cool'. And when I say appear to be 'cool' I mean useless songs like guys rapping about their 'scores' with chicks and their cash (talk about full of themselves) or some bimbo strutting onto stage in a bikini singing the same old sensual songs with no different meaning whatsoever, all these songs being forced into existence purely so that teenagers can pass them around to each other on their mp3's, put on a show of how 'cool' it is and just to belong. Sensual songs and songs that fit in with a commmon mug attitude may have an appeal, (not saying I agree with them) but as with anything if you eat empty garbage long enough sooner or later you are going to crack, run headfirst into the nearest fridge and gorge yourself on vegetables just to get it out of your system!
Don't tell me you aren't tired of eating garbage!
Our society has tv programs, games, movies, media influence/many other things all the time sending constant messages to the teenage generation. As teens you are, sorry folks, part child, part adult. Don't think that while you are still in a physical and emotional stage of growing up and adapting to this world that you are not impressionable, that you are not supposed to still learn, that you are completely independent, that you are not supposed to still recieve guidance and finally, that you are not *meant* to be impressionable and fall under all of the above that I just listed, cos you are! Even as adults I promise you that we absorb and are influenced by our environment so that we learn lessons and adapt in life. And where are you getting you're influence from? Alot of teens aren't listening to their parents, who by the way see and know them as a real person existing and care about them. What alot of teens are listening too is the big stars, mass formed and produced by the big companies, the mass, international attitude of rebellion that is around everywhere today and their peers, who all seem to be in the same boat as they are.
Disney, for all it's 'sweetness' and it's 'charm' bugs me bigtime. For example, nobody, no-bod-y, well, most people anyway in the teen generation would not have paid any attention to anything do with a 'musical' at all before all of a sudden, "BAM!" HighSchool musical came out.
Highscool has been described to us as the 'best time of our lives'. There's this 'thing' about highschool. A theme. Shows featuring highschool dramas have this theme about them as well. The Americanised idea (sorry America, but as the top able contributors to HollyWood and entertainment by default alot things will originate from you) about highschool hunk fotball team captains going out with the homecoming queen is so glamourous, and is an ideal still strongly present in our society.
Look at this latest show, Friday Night Lights. For those of you who do watch it, when you first saw it advertised and at the time knew nothing about the show, what was it that attracted you to watch it? I thought to myself, when I saw the add, finally it occured to someone to make a show about one of the most world famous, American originated, glamourised teen related ideals = $$$.
So, back to speaking about Highschool Musical. First, we throw in HighSchool, an element which not only brings to alot of tv shows a theme of it's own but it tells teens "Hey guys, it's *HighSchool* Musical, it's relates to you!" and makes the whole thing far more youthful. Element number two: Hot characters that people will like. Element number three:
'Something different.' And no, I am not paying Disney some sort of compliment. Seemingly in contrast to the common teenage ideal of conforming, it has also seemed to come into to fashion to some degree to do 'something different', but this little fashion or fad as I call it that has been integrated into teen society is often actually an act of conforming in itself. Confusing, neh? Well it works like this;
From my obseThis situation I realise does not apply to every single teen situation out there, and before someone misreads me, yes I'm 19. And I reaise I'm hard to understand. This is up here cos I want your opinion so speaks! ^_^rest of this message was pasted here http://ever-ambient.deviantart.com/ IDIDN'T REALISE IT WOULD BE CUT OFF

TOPIC: HOW MANY TYPES OF ADVERTISING ARE THERE? PRESENT THE FEATURES AND EXAMPLES OF EACH TYPE. ANALYZE THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THEM.
Nowadays, almost companies can’t lack advertising to introduce their products or services to market. There are many types of advertising. Each type has different role and appropriateness. So, this essay will focus on three types in three paragraphs. Introducing about print advertising in the first paragraph; and then, introducing mass media advertising in the second paragraph; and finally, introducing outdoor advertising in the third paragraph.
Today, advertising products via print media is a common practice. The print media include all newspapers, newsletters, magazines, booklets, pamphlets, and other printed publications. The role of print advertising is to offers basic information about the company, their products or services to the selected audiences. Most print media are local. Magazines, on the other hand, have always been national, although there is a trend today toward localization and specialization. There are a huge amount newspapers and magazines are published everyday. But only some types tend to a particular group people. For examples, sporty newspapers are written for men, teenage magazines for teenagers, etc. Therefore, select the right type of newspapers or magazines is important decision of the company, which may reach larger selected audiences. According to a statistic, in Vietnam, at present, there are about 600 newspapers and magazines. Almost companies, which are operating in Vietnam, are advertising via print media; for examples, Vinamilk, FPT, Honda, etc.
Mass media advertising is popular most and impact in people’s awareness of the companies and their products. This type includes TV, radio and internet. Mass media advertising is more than simply persuasive messages. Through text and through images, the ad conveys values and beliefs, and these have meanings for those who read, listen or watch them. In this type, cost is the main obstacle for companies which want to advertise on TV. Moreover, just as print ad, mass media ad also has many channels tend to many different objects. Consequently, if the company advertises with reasonable duration and right channel, the company will not waste more money and their advertising still effective. Due to the great role of mass media in the life, nowadays, there are many companies use mass media for their main publicity. For instance, Unilever present their products as OMO and Comfort, P&G with Tide and Downy, etc.
Outdoor advertising, one of the oldest and most enduring forms of advertising, is advertising on signs that are located outdoors in public places. This form includes billboards, trade fairs, sporting evens, etc. Outdoor advertising captures the viewer's attention 24 hours a day. True, it has limited coverage. But a well-planned outdoor campaign can effectively cover most major markets. The main features of this type are brevity of the message and cannot target customer. So, the message usually is slogan of the company, such as Canon Corporation with the slogan is “Delighting you always” or Toyota with sentence “Moving forward”, etc.
In short, using which types and using on which time is important decision of the company. In my opinion, with carefully choosing, the company can get what they need from all the variable advertisements
moreResolved Question: Power of mind vs. Power of Commercials.?
I think if you made a commercial that sold korans as magic books that guaranteed to improve your jump shot and send you to heaven when you die, people would beleive it.
Today, in Iraq I had picked up lunch for a local national that was doing work for us. He was a diabetic so I made his lunch special avoiding sugars, lots of breads, and giving him caffeine free diet soda. After his meal I saw him grab a Gatorade from the cooler to drink.
That's when I got into an argument with the other American escourts about the power of American media vs. the true value of Gatorade. I argued that it was not good for him or us but we all think it is because of commercials. They disagreed beleiveing it hydrated you with electrolytes.
Even after explaining why this was false they still thought it was good for the guy.
Every living cell has a sodium potassium (electrolytes) ion exchange pump which regulates the water balance inside and outside cells. Water is attracted to particles (electrolytes) and sodium has a different charge than potassium, so as sodium and potassium will naturally balance out due to polarity water will follow and homeostasis occurs. (Hydration - given they have water.)
Thus you do not need gatorade for electrolytes. In fact gatorade has too much "electrolytes" and has a higher osmolar pull thus reducing the amount of water that goes into your body. Not to mention the sugar in it - put in it only to make it sell better. Sugar is a diuretic. (It makes you pee thus making you less hydrated.)
Plus, sweat is hypotonic. Contains less electrolytes than your blood has. Fluid loss is more of a problem usually than electroylte loss in hot days, especially for people who eat regular meals.
The drink was used on Florida Gators and was attributed to their win, but that was a different formula. Once there became a demand for it they pumped it full of sugar and mass marketed it as a sports drink.
Even after explaining all this, the other American soldiers still thought gatorade was good not only for them, but for the diabetic.
So, back to my question. Being that gatorade, like the supposid health benifits of cigarettes of yore, is unhealthy but beleived to be so because of advertising - how able are our minds to resist what society says around us even despite rational clearly laid out arguments against the statements the t.v. (society) holds as true?

moreResolved Question: negotiating pay for a new job?
I am doing marketing and advertising design for a local Equestrian Center.
The lady wants to feed my two horses for free (her cost would be $1100) if I'll continue to help her with marketing her facility.
She also is allowing me to to teach some riding lessons to clients I am bringing to her facility. These clients have their own horse and will be paying her to keep their horse there which would offset her cost in feeding mine. I would keep any money I make from teaching, as long as I continue to help her with her advertising and events.
The marketing advertising design work she has me doing is intensive and she has events planned every month that require me to design media kits, follow-up with contacts and write copy for her media packets.
Advertising and design is very expensive, and I'm not entirely convinced this is a fair deal... what are some thoughts on this?
moreResolved Question: What 5 things would you change?
If you could chang 5 things about political campaigns and voting in the US what 5 things would you change? It could be any 5 things, no matter how unreasonable.
My five things would be:
1. Limit campaigning to 13 weeks, 4 to chose who will serve for your party, 4 to make your case (visit the people, publish plans, 4 to debate (2 times a week). One week to rest, and then, vote.
2. No celebrity endorsements, none, not even the local weatherman.
3. No advertising of any kind.... BUT Each candidate would be given the same expact amount of money to produce, publish and distribute literature to each registered voter, once or twice per week. They would also get 15 minute slot every other day to address the nation via TV and Radio.
4. The media wouldn't be able to side at all, they can only ask questions, and report exactly what was answered. I don't really care what a liberal or conservative commentator thinks... and niether should you, I'd like to make my own analysis, thank you very much.
5. Make it easier for people to vote, more places to register, like the library, and DMV, and City Halls... and if neccesary, send people door to door or do a community drive and give opportunity to those who can't phyisically go and do it. The Post Office could be extremely helpful, for people who are changing addresses, in that it should hold mail until the resident actually registers (at the post office) their new residence so they can be aware of thier polling places . I did make the disclaimer, that the five things coudl be whatever you wanted, no matter how crazy.
I don't think my ideas limit free speech, Ithink they encourage the average American to have someof their own thoughts and cause them to talk to each other. Other democratic countries do not allow celebrity endorsements... it's not infringement on free speech, it's playing a clean game... Which we all know is almost impossible in our current situation... but I think all of our ideas would help clean it up... that's for sure. There is a big difference between 'endorse' and to answer a direct question.

I buy a lot of used cd's and DVDs from the local record store. However, they always put a bunch of stickers all over them. (price stickers, big orange "USED" stickers, as if I need to advertise that to everyone who views my otherwise impressive media library). Unfortunately, when I go to remove these stickers, they always leave remnants behind and big sticky glue patches where the "stick-um" didn't come off. Very Annoying. Does anyone have any tips, techniques, solvents that will help with this? I have tried nail polish remover with little result. I have tried harsher solvents that ended up melting/damaging the case itself. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!
