Resolved Question: Topics for consideration when writing a report?

Topics for consideration when writing a report on the the representation of Scotland / scottish identity in overseas media. i.e our own government/tourist board films that are shown in other english speaking countries plus a look at content originated in those countries such as newspaper reports. I already thought maybe -Budget/funding -Events -no. of tourists from within the UK -Targetted areas? - No. of tourists from outside the uk, - Governmental guidelines, - Representation of our cities in foreign press. - What other websites we advertise on. if anyone can think of any other topics for consideration it would be really helpful - thank you . more

Resolved Question: Anyone else believe music is a dying art?

This isn't aimed at all music there's still a good amount of genuine bands. Thing is whats pissing me of is music seems to have changed dramatically over the last 10 or so years. The music industry has always been a major opening for advertisements i.e.pop icons, rock stars etc. BUT it seems more like that now than ever. Its like all I ever see is a grup of guys or a girl in there early 20s or late teens you can tell by the way they dress the way they act and the way they look that these people WEREN'T social recluses or outcasts now I know that you don't have to have a totally shit life to have something to sing about but with one look you can tell these guys (and girls) don't have much to express compared to a large selection of people. SO why are they famous if they haven't got a really terrible and emotional life story. Well they were popular with people, funny, GOOD LOOKING (a major one in the industry) and those alone are all they need to get in the music business. Oh and a very basic knowledge of music. Now i'll be honest I'm not a social recluse thats jealous or anything I just miss the days when you would see someone messy or unusual get up on stage and blast out passion and emotion and you know that this guy (or girl) has had it hard and has something to say its that kind of power, emotion and passion that I miss seing, that loner at the back of the class getting up there and showing people something that you wouldn't expect it makes it ten times better, as opposed to some cheesy boy band thats been accepted into the music industry and skilled up by someone to perfect there sound (since it lacks the passion and emotion of real music everything has to be perfect) On that not my view on real music is it doesn't have to be perfect vocals don't have to be performed by an angel and the guitar doesn't need to be a flashy one worthy of satans brilliant guitar skills. It seems people are obsessed with perfection in music now I think because people have forgotten its about passion and desperately try to copy the perfect image of a rockstar the media has painted for them. If its real music with passion it doesn't need to be perfect that's the beauty of music. Overall my point is whats seems to be getting worse is how people are lulled into the trap the media built where instead of appreciating music they look at the person playing what there wearing how they look and decide "I want to look like that" so they buy clothes based on that image and fashion mags hosting that image. Its not about the music anymore its about whats advertised with the so called "music". The music industry is rapidly turning into and another advertisement. more

Resolved Question: Did the freemasons/illuminati--murder Jade Goody in order to bring in Female Cancer insurance?

Ok im no conspiracy freak, but my mind tells me, everytime someone in the media dies suspiciously (ie Michael Jackson, Stephen Gately, so on so on) people start to whisper, although im not sure about the two i mention, i do know this, Just before Jade Goody got cancer, a friend said to me that some celebs are murdered in order to brainwash nations into giving money, (i.e organisations profiting) so i was shocked when today i saw an advert advertising female cancer insurance on the back of GUESS WHO Jade Goody, apparently it is now making millions, this is not to mention true to my original thoughts that Media Panic like Swine flu and Celeb deaths, the media can scare us into doing anything.--Why do you think 911 is so scrutinised the world over for its blatant attempt to gain support from scared americans to invade you know where. more

Voting Question: English essay... again?

Right, so i've already posted a question about my media essay about two advertisments in Bliss Magazine - Avril Lavigne and Colleen Rooney's perfumes. However, i didn't seem to ask it very well. So here i go again: This is my INTRODUCTION and the start of the body of my essay. I can't use P.E.E because there is very little writing on the advertisements and so i can't quote it very well. If you could give me any help/corrections/ideas it would be very much appreciated. If not, just leave me your thoughts. Thank you. Following your close study on Bliss Magazine, comment on and compare advertisement features which you feel are significant in making it successful. The publishers of Bliss magazine obviously have a clear idea of their target audience. Not only do the bright, girly colours and photographs of current and popular celebrities suggest that it is aimed at teenage girls but also the name 'bliss'- meaning extreme happiness, suggests femininity and youth. The magazine is most likely aimed at females in there early adolescent years and possibly even preteens; perhaps with ages varied between twelve and fifteen. They also obviously know that it is important to appeal to the target audience and so have used a wide range of presentational features to ensure this is achievable; some of these include colour scheme, lay-out, fonts and images. All of the devices used are not only suitable for the Bliss readers but also for the purpose of the magazine which is to entertain, give advice, advertise and ultimately sell. The content usually includes pages based on celebrity gossip, news, fashion tips, interviews and “problem pages” all of which have been designed for the purpose and target audience. Obviously, their main priority is to sell and so they approach the potential buyer bribing them with a “free gift”. They also design the front cover making sure the expensive price tag is the least eyecatching part and is over-powered by other feautures. Some would say that magazines such as Bliss can be quite deceiving because they lure the shopper into buying it and are only interested in the money that they will be receiving. Another way that the company attempts to increase their profits is by advertising. In the December issue of Bliss Magazine, two similar advertisements are displayed that are trying to appeal to the same target audience as Bliss Magazine itself which is why they have chosen to advertise in this particular area of the media. The first advertisement is for Avril Lavigne’s perfume “Black star”. Already, the name suggests a lot about the product. For example; you would imagine it to be gothic and dark because those are the connotations of the colour black. Despite the gothic style, pink is used in the colour scheme so that it can appeal to more than just one group of people. Pink is also a typical feminine colour and so is suitable for the target audience. The name “black star” contradicts itself because stars are never usually described as black, therefore creating a sense of uniqueness and individuality which is something many teenagers aspire to be. The wording “be your own star” tells the reader that buying the perfume can help you to become everything you want to be, making it very persuasive. They also do this by styling Avril Lavigne to look like her perfume bottle. She models a short pink dress with finishing touches including a studded belt, fish net tights and a shinny, silver bangle and is posed to look powerful which breaks the weak and innocent stereotype of a typical girl. Similarly, the bottle is pink and shaped like the dress with a black, star shaped lid which reflects the belt that she is wearing. By mirroring the perfume bottle in the clothes and accessories, it suggests to the target audience that by wearing the perfume, they can be like Avril Lavigne. The second of the two advertisements is about Coleen Rooney’s perfume. It has been styled carefully to look sophisticated and elegant. By using shades of purple rather than pink, it is still able to attract girls but looks more mature and grown up. The advertisement displays a photograph of Coleen, showing her slim, attractive outline and is airbrushed to make her look “perfect”. The contrast of Coleen against outlines of dancers in the background gives the impression of her “standing out”. Like Avril Lavignes perfume, the bottle is very similarly designed to mirror Coleen’s dress. Both are plain black and very graceful. more

Resolved Question: Do you think I'm being scammed ?

I've advertised a room for rent on Craigslist. A women form S.Africa has responded saying she is coming to England for a 6month media course with the BBC in Bristol. She wants to send me SA$3000 in advance and then I'm to purchase her airline tickets and deduct a months rent......here's the e-mail.......... ******About payment: I intend arriving 10 december. My 1 month Voice grooming at the local BBc radio at Bristol start 5th January 2010. Probs is ive been granted a $3,000 travel cheque (equivalent £1,700GBP) to pay for my accommodation and flight ticket inclusive. It was supposed to be arranged by agency. I found that most UK agencies charge exhobitant handling fees! And their room rent per month or week are killing too. So im left with you to help. So what i plan doing is asking my ceo to re-issue it in your name for payment of rents/deposit. Ofcourse it will include money for my flight ticket. Thus after you deduct your rent amount, you will give £700GBP to the SAA agency to book my flight from your side. Simply go cash the cheque from the airport or any uk post office. My time is close at hand, very near. If you are willing , let me call you to explain further. Or simply give me name to issue it in and address to send it by courier on or before banking hours of Friday. Is it okay? ******* Is it some sort of scam? Moneylaundering perhaps ?I know it's a scam.....I'm just wondering exactly how they benefit. I don't quite get how they make money. What good are the air tickets? more

Voting Question: What do you think of the government these are my views im open to opinion?

Rather than give us knowledge, direction they exercise and exploit the small section of the brain that release negative emotion. We stress on dilemmas that are meaningless compared to what they are doing. They as in the government. The bank funds the government and for the government to recoup what they owe we the public are their answer. They create schemes to get us into debt and so, we are constantly paying out money i.e national insurance, council tax, income tax, Corporation tax, stamp duty, this also ultimately DISTRACTS us from whats really going on i.e mass murder disguised as a war also known as destroying a country to claim and rebuild it as their own.Other distractions include the media- music, fashion, movies, and reality programmes that indoctrinate our mind into thinking we have to be, act and dress a certain way to fit in. They advertise products on tv and make you "think" you need them by using your favourite celebrities as the front face, but at the same time make you "worry" about where you'll be getting the money from. The reason for this way of thinking is due to the media influence but also due to our poor education system which has prepared us for a normal 9- 5 job or if your an individual that chooses not to take the education system seriously you wont even get that. Thinking outside the box i.e self employment, creating new ideas for the world we live in is the way out of getting caught up in this freak show. Every ones busy trying to be "perfect" and all these things we worry about are the things the government don't give a damn about those politicians you vote for can't make change the worlds run by the rich set up for the rich to stay powerful and our duty is to follow orders. Life is what you make it at the end of the day and god didn't make us so we could follow the majority and fit in. He blessed us with talents so we could stand out. more

Resolved Question: Domination fantasies and Media Images?

Why are there so many instances of domination in sexual fantasies and who wants it, men or women, or both? Women in the media e.g. popstars, advertising etc.are often depicted in a domination scenario over men (never the other way) or simply wear clothing of a femdom nature in order pervey a sexy image. Seems this is the ultimate fantasy as it is the one that is so evident everywhere. But is this the case, is this down to men dominating the media and creating these fantasies or is it actually a popular thing for women to fantasise about (controlling a man sexually). Or is it that practically all women and men share this fantasy to a certain extent. Thoughts? more

Resolved Question: Can someone please recommend a SATA hard disk for me to buy?

I'm looking to buy a new HD for my desktop PC to replace my existing system drive (C drive), as HD's nowadays are a lot faster, larger and cheaper than when I built the PC back in 2004. The computer is running with 3.2 MHz Intel processor and Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo, 3 GB RAM. The mobo takes SATA and EIDE hard drives. Can anyone recommend a SATA HD I should look out for, on which I would be using for operating system and for installing software (it means reinstalling OS and software). I'll be using the system for processor intensive applications (video editing, games, etc) -- note, I already have extra drives for storing data, media and on which I do my video encoding. I can only seem to find SATA II drives on the market -- are those backwards compaitible with SATA I mobos? I have my eyes set on Western Digital but they seem to have three families in terms of performance, called Green, Blue and Black. Their website is vague. The "Green" drives look appealing as they are advertised as quiet and economical on power. Has anyone used those, and is speed compromised to acheive these environmental benefits? Also what would be a recommened size before speed starts to get compromised noticeably? My current system/software drive is 160 GB. I'd like my new drive to be bigger to install more software but not too big that the drive runs slower. more

Resolved Question: Need help!! rearrange this essay into headings! esay best answer!?

Advertisement: Advertising is a form of communication that companies and brands use to persuade potential customers to buy or consume their products and services. There are several different types of advertising, all developed for different purposes. Covert advertising, for instance, is when a product or brand is included in entertainment and media. For example covert advertising can be seen in films such as I, Robot, where main character played by Will Smith often refers to his Converse shoes, calling them "classics," because the film is set far in the future. I, Robot and Spaceballs also include futuristic cars with the Audi and Mercedes-Benz logos displayed on the vehicles. When a company is producing an advertisement they have to consider their target audience. For instance using bright colours and simple language would attract young children. If a company were selling a beauty product, they would typically use models, as customers want to feel and look confident and by using someone attractive to sell the product, a customer would naturally believe that it will make them appear more appealing, therefore the customer makes an impulse purchase. Where the advertisement is situated is also very important, by placing a billboard advertising a product aimed at teenagers, by a retirement home would be quite pointless as would be advertising Zima frames by a youth club. A majority of television commercials feature a song or jingle that listeners soon associate to the product. Good examples of this would be Hastings direct, Clillit bang and McCain’s. The music that is used is extremely important, and can change the way a customer sees the product. There are also other ways to advertise products other than via television. Companies also use billboards, newspapers, magazines and most recently the internet. Emails in particular are becoming popular amongst companies but can be seen to customers as unwanted and an annoyance, such e-mails are often referred to as ‘spam’ or ‘junk’. Now i need someone to rearrange this paragraph into idfferent headings, which are: 1. General description 2. Possible Audiences 3. Standard Components [what does it include] 4. Purpose of this document You dont have to add any thing just rearrange parts to fit the subject headings please, easy best answer thanks! Omg if nyour not goin to answer the question, dont bother givin me a pathetic lecture on how i should do things myself. In case you havent noticed ive done my homework, hence the essay. Im only askin for someone to rearrange it more

Resolved Question: I'm 16 and planning on starting my own business. Advice needed?

Hey everyone. I'm currently 16 and when i am older i want to run my own business. So recently i decided i might as well start now! Only a small thing though. Just to try and make some more money to put towards university or something i may need. I have Taken Media, ICT, Maths and Business studies. And i have the attitude needed to keep a business open. Although, because i am only young and still in school 4 days a week i was planning on starting small working on Ebay and Amazon. (All done with help of family members) Heres my idea. Due to the increase in size of people. Generally i mean. People need bigger clothes. And some people find it difficult to afford large clothes (XL+) As they are usually expensive. Which is where i see a gap in the market and would like to buy clothes (Males shirts XL up. Trousers 34" up) and then resale using online techniques. Like Ebay... So i need you, to give me links, names and just any company (Based in england) So that i can buy large clothes and sell. So someplace like a warehouse or holesaler. The whole idea of merchenting comes into to play here. This is simply to make a small business on Ebay (selling items) and my own website (As i can make the website myself and also advertise.) Which who knows. In the future my idea may become very successfull. You may find it hard to beleive i am 16 :) I currently have 1300pounds to work with. I been saving up. To summerise.... I need warehouses or holesalers who will sell clothes cheap, so i can resale them on the internet. So if you know of any then please. Do tell me. Any of the popular supliers who make clothe, if you just so happen to have the website for where i can buy large items of clothing for resale.. (E.g Denim jeans, Easy clothing. Ect Ect.) If anymore information is needed feel free to ask and i shall give you it in as much detail as i can. I'm mainly looking for advice. Where i can buy clothes. Where to start ect ect. Thanks for reading and no silly comments please. I am quite serious about my idea and i hope it will be a big success. Many thanks to people who reply. more

Resolved Question: Media Studies presentation: Advertising in Sport?

Hi. I have to do a presentation for Media Studies on Wednesday, and I'm pretty nervous. I'm not sure what to say and I have to do it in front of my whole class. The presentation must be on Advertising in Sport and I have decided to focus on Football (Soccer). I know that there are loads of advertisments in the football stadiums, on the shirts and even in the names of some stadiums (e.g. Emirates Stadium). I have also had a look at the various endorsments that products and companies have from football players (e.g. Adidas and Beckham). The trouble is putting all of this into words and explaining it properly. I must explain why it is used, how it is successful, how it is unsuccessful and whether of not it has an effect on the audience/consumers. I am also going to show a video clip from a football match before I start my presentation and before the class know what my presentation is about so that I can see if they take the ads in. What should I acctually say in my presentation? Why is advertising used in football, how it is successful and how it is unsuccessful? more
