Open Question: Is it illegal to use a free newspaper to distribute your own flier?

I have a friend in Oregon who owns a delivery business. In order to save on advertising he collected a bunch of free newspapers, then printed out some fliers, and attached his fliers to the free newspapers and started handing them out. He got a call from the editor of the free newspaper saying that he couldn't do that. Can they legally stop you from getting free newspapers, attaching a flier, and giving them away? If the answer is yes, please specify why and what law he is breaking. more

Voting Question: Rules against Bookit.com business practices?

Isn't there a rule somewhere that would prevent online travel sites from removing bad reviews and hiding fees? This site deletes bad reviews, because I left one for the hotel I booked through bookit and it disappeared. I used them again and booked what was advertises as "room"for 75 bucks. Well for 2 nights Royal American ended up tacking on $55 cleaning fee, a 15 Registration fee on top of the usual taxes. Bookit claims it was disclosed before I paid, but that is misleading. I had to go back and try to book this room again, before I found this info burried in some fine print that you even had to click on for it to expand that section where these fees where listed. I feel ripped off! I also can't trust their reviews, because they remove the bad ones. Mine was removed after less than 6 month, but they kept good ones that where from 2008 more

I'm trying to find the right way to set up my own photo-gallery through which I could sell my photos (either in digital form, and/or as art prints). Could you recommend a website, that is an online service where I sign up/pay, set up gallery/upload photos, advertise and sell... ? The theme is mostly landscape/nature photography, some urban themes and some abstract art. My friend and I both want to start our own babysitting "business" together. Both girls, I'm 14 and she's 13 (almost 14), going into 9th grade. I've taken a babysitting class before (so I learned CPR), however my friend has not. I've babysat my neighbors a couple times and my little brother, but that's it. I’m the President of the largest EAA (www.EAA.org) chapter in the Greater Boston area and we’re a 501(c)(3) public charity, but with a very small budget … We’ll be hosting the EAA (also a 501(c)(3)) Museum’s WWII B-17 Flying Fortress bomber known as “Aluminum Overcast” at the Lawrence Municipal Airport for a 3-day tour stop August 20-22, 2010 – but would love some advise and/or contacts: EAA requires that the host chapter (that’s us, EAA Chapter 106 – www.EAA106.org – see link for B-17 flyer on home page) provide all the advertising for both the flights (morning) and ground tours (walk through the plane in the afternoon) – times tbd. With a limited budget and a down economy, our chapter needs to be even more creative than normal in our advertising. In the past (and we’re doing these this year, too), we’ve posted flyers in pizza shops, convenience stores, grocery stores, etc – and have taken some to hotels near the airport. We’ve also posted our event to on-line aviation calendars (Aflyer, AOPA, EAA, etc). We’ve tried newspaper advertising, but that was too expensive for the results. We also try to get main-stream press (TV, major newspapers, radio) to cover the event and they can sign up for a free press flight if they agree to give coverage. Resolved Question: How can I get my kodak esp 3 printer to print correctly?

So I gave in when this printer first came out and purchased it. I've been having problems printing pictures the past few months. I have brand new ink and the papers i'm printing that have color aren't vibrant. they're dull and sometimes it doesn't print too well at all. I can forget about printing pictures, because it screws up the color of the photo. I end up getting a grey blue photo. What can I do to fix this? Is there a setting? It spools itself every time I power it up after it's been unplugged. I'm really disappointed with this printer. My old hp printer, which was a dinosaur, printed pictures and printed pages with color so well & the only time I had issues with it is when it was low on ink. It was small and reliable. I'm regretting giving it to my brother very much now all those months ago. This kodak esp 3 is a beast and it's noisy. it sucks! I bought this to print great quality photos like it says and print papers fast and not have to worry about tinkering with it to try to get it to re-spool just to come out a little darker. Does anyone know how to make this hunk a junk work the way it's advertised?? more

I have had different dial up plans over the years. just the last couple of years or so I have found out that some of these places advertise and decetfully call their service Unlimited when it is really not unlimited. read the fine print and they have a limit of 200 or 300 hours a month. they claim unlimited means different meanning depending on the company. copper.net says it means that unlimited means you can get online day or night not limit to what time you can get on. Resolved Question: What Brand/Type of Printer Should I Buy that is Decent for Home Use and Economical!?

I see many types of printers now that are advertising cheap ink. In ten years I've had several printers, but only two brands, HP and Lexmark. I have a Lexmark now which is a fax machine and scanner also, and I like it, but I have found that Lexmark basically wants to suck every dollar I have buying cartridges and if you chance to refill one, the printer will plague you to words that would make a cultist blush. I use my printer at home. Occasionally (more now than in the past though), I print pictures, because all of the stores require permission letters for anything that resembles a studio portrait, but I'm not that into portrait printing. I print a lot of documents and I'm sick, I mean sick of worrying and paying out the wazzu for print cartridges. I'm willing to spend a little more for the printer if I can indeed buy cartridges, whether color or black, without breaking the bank. I do need an all-in-one though, with a fax. Anyone with any experience with the Kodaks are the others that have genuinely cheap refills with decent quality, please give me some advice. more

I bought a 6 wheeler dumptruck and i thought about naming my small business "Topsoil for Autism" because my brother is Autistic and i thought it would be a great idea to help raise money! Also it has a good story! My father owns a Construction Company and if my brother was able he would be taking it over. BUT now i am. So its kinda like im making a small business for my brother... I currently sell landscape supplies- topsoil, sand, mulch etc. So I thought i could advertise- "every yard bought is $1 towards Autism" or "10% of sale goes to Autism" or w/e ** I could even print up coupons with the buyers donation amount ** So its on record of the donation ** THE QUESTION IS: Can I do this without people thinking its a scam, unfair advantage? Because i would still be making a profit. I think this idea would be great! Since i want to make my brother apart of the family business... But through helping his cause and donating to the Org. Glenn Beck didn't give a damn about Van Jones until Color of Change (which was founded by Jones) began an advertising boycott. He didn't give a damn about Anita Dunn either until she spoke out against Fox News and with that, she became a part of the George Soros/Andy Stern mumbo jumbo. Basically, anytime Beck is called out, he tries to silence the person. He's actually pretty successful at it though... only now, its NOT someone from the Left. The Weekly Standard is by all accounts Right Wing through and through. Yet they're now saying Beck is based in conspiracy and are essentially asking people to IGNORE him.... are they with Soros too? I've taken some great shots from a zoo of some animals. I had thoughts to use them in some non-profit fliers and perhaps in the future sell the prints for personal gain. Anyone know how this works with animals that you do not own? Again, these are my pictures I took, of their animals. How do I cover my butt....and/or....do I need to cover my butt? Resolved Question: What can I do with my eBay problem with a seller?

So heres the story, I bought a guitar from this eBay seller, and when it arrived I was very pleased. I told my sister that she should buy one from them as well, since I received great customer service and a great guitar from them. So, she bought one too. Hers came, and it was a completely different coloured guitar. I emailed the seller and told him I thought he made a mistake. He was shocked, because he did make a mistake, and they actually don't even sell the guitar that was advertised. I asked for 2 guitar stands in compensation, althought I was still dissatisfied with the guitar, and he agreed. 1 month passed, and I hadnt received it yet. The seller tells me it was returned back to him for a "wrong address" and demanded I pay $30.12 for reshipping purposes. I can prove from previous messages I sent him that I did, in fact give him the correct address, THEY just made a typo when printing out the shipping label. So, now they ask me to pay for what is really a mistake that they made. Its been 2 months since I bought the guitar... I am unhappy with what they are asking me to do. What are my options? Can I return it guitar still? This hassle is not worth it to me :( more

Recently, I got on my dads laptop just to mess around, I found in the history many sites advertising female escorts, which are basically prostitutes. They were based mainly in Atlanta, Georgia. My dad travels a lot for his work and one of his main offices is based there. I printed all the sites out and stapled them together. I am a 17 year old boy and have 4 other siblings, no one else in my family knows and this is a heavy burden to bear. I am planning on throwing the sheets I printed out in his face tomorrow and seeing how reacts. If I can tell its true I'm going to say some terrible things and walk out of my house. I don't know if I should do this though, if it turns out this is all true it will tear my family apart. I want to start an online alternative magazine(with a possibility of going into print after we acquire a fan base and get some funding.), unfortunately no matter how much I research I still don't have a very good idea of what I'm doing. There are too many ideas and too much work for one person. Between the idea, finding out how to do it and the actual execution(no to mention my exhausting day job) I'm swamped. I'd like to find some people with a bit of know-how who'd like to help out and maybe join a permanent staff? It'd mostly just be an online-type thing, and since we don't have any funding/advertising(not that I really know how to get any...my job pays next to nothing.) I wouldn't be able to pay anyone. My question is does anyone know where I might find some people that don't mind volunteering their time? Maybe a bulletin or something where I might advertise the need for services? I''d really only need a couple of people, someone to help with the website layout and format, someone to help with advertising and someone that's could be an editorial director. It's only non-profit at the moment, sometime in the future I'd really like to make one. And maybe even pay everyone a salary. more

Resolved Question: Isnt it illegal to put flyers in peoples mailboxes?

I have always heard that it is illegal to put flyers in other peoples mailboxes, since it is not your property to be opening up. Is this correct? I would like to try to get some more violin students to teach and the summer is the best time to advertise. I am printing out my flyers now and plan to put them either in between the flag of the mailbox and the actual mailbox, or in the mailbox, if it is legal to do so. I've decided to create and distribute at no cost a local special interest magazine with all revenue coming from advertising. I have enough capital to print an issue. However, I've yet to gauge interest from advertisers. Any ideas on what I should do first? Try to outright sell ad space? What if I don't get enough advertisers and I'm already committed to customers? Or should I at least try to gauge interest from potential advertisers? Resolved Question: Can I sue the breeder?

I bought a dog a little over a month ago which was advertised as AKC registered. I have printed out ads from the online advertisement which shows full AKC registered, the phone number, and pictures of the dog I purchased. There was no contract but I also have emails and text messages where she told me she was sending the papers. I also have copies of the parents AKC papers. I have not received the papers and I'm just trying to get opinions on what can be done. Please don't give advise if you can't say anything constructive. I know what the policy of the AKC is and I don't want to be criticized for it. I think it is just a shame that you really cannot trust people at all anymore.Well honestly, I'm not sure what I'm willing to do or not do. If I don't get papers it's not a horrible loss. Besides, I have means to take action against her in many ways. Therefore, I'm not really the one whose reputation is at stake here. more
