Open Question: How can I promote my forum and get more members?

Myself and a friend have created a fansite dedicated to all things Twilight. We have put alot of work into the site but for some reason we just cant get people to join :( I really do think that the site has potential to be the ultimate 'hang out' for Twilight fans, I just dont know how to get them to look at the site. So far, we have done the following: Posted questions on YA! asking what people think of the site. Most people liked the site and said that they would join but none of them have joined yet. Advertised on Twitter. Created signatures advertising the site which are displayed on the other Twilight sites that we are members of. Posted an advertisement on gumtree.com. Does anybody have any other ideas that could help us attract members and get the site up and running. We have 8 members at the moment but there is no sign of anyone else joining at the moment, which is a shame because I really do think that the site would be good for all Twilight fans :) The link to the site is... www.bitten.profurms.org Any help would be appreciated :) Thank You :) more

Open Question: Can I sue the post office for this?

Okay the mail man has been returning our mail back to sender except for advertising and bills. He started doing this since my boyfriend first made a call of complaint saying the mail man returned his driver record and needs that so he went to jail and the mail was returned so many times...he had to get it faxed so it will get to them in time so he won't go to jail. The problem is that the mail man is keep on returning our important mail: legal notices, bank statements, gift cards, checks, invitations, government papers are returned to sender. The problem is that he is giving us advertisements and bills and other peoples' mail. We have made the call many times to try to resolve the problem...the post master was rude and she said that he knows that you live there so there should be no problem of him giving back our mail...EXACTLY is what I told her. He knows that we live there and he should not be doing this. We lost out on a lot of money because a gift card was returned so much that it was voided and we needed groceries....they told us it was returned to them...we were waiting on that so much.... Bank statements are charged a lot of money every time they are returned to the bank and the mail man keeps on doing that. last complaint we made....he knocked on the door loud but i was sleeping and my boyfriend was awake and did not want to open it. I would of if i was awake...anyways do we any grounds of suing them if we keep on making complaints and it is not being resolved? more

Open Question: I need some Techie Help.?

omg,i need help. My computer has this virus, right? So I put it in Safe Mode but I can't seem to fix without being forced to buy Spyware Doctor. And I don't wanna spend money (er, my parents money) on something I don't need to. So, if there's another way, please, share the wealth. What the Virus looks like: a link: http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo253/rawrdoriangrr/antivirus-soft.jpg it has a million pop ups and it won't let me open ANY files. it says like "file ____.exe could not be opened bc it may be infected," or we. so i looked up AntiVirus Soft on Google (like the brain I never had) and this is what i found. --------------------------------------------------------------- Antivirus Soft is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Antivirus Soft can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Antivirus Soft trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Antivirus Soft offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Antivirus Soft does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer. Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Antivirus Soft, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Antivirus Soft, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself. Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Antivirus Soft, is nearly impossible to remove manually. How to tell if your Computer is infected? Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware. Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove. more

Resolved Question: Is there anywhere that i can report a product making false claims(in Australia)?

Ive been informed of this product on Ebay where the advertisement says that "Janet Jackson used this to lose 55 lb".I feel this is dishonest advertising.is there any where that i can report this company unless of course Janet Jackson really did use this or a similar product to lose lots of weight and someone has information regarding this? The product itself might or might not work, that is not the issue. My issue is if the advertisement is outright knowingly + willingly using a lie/deception to persuade more buyers. Does anyone know if Janet Jackson did actually use this or similar to lose weight? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Weight-Loss-Fluid-Fat-Loss-Natural-Lose-Weight_W0QQitemZ350297876092QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Weight_Management?hash=item518f61667cThanks Gary-im not convinced that Acupuncture is placebo as i've had it myself numerous times before few years ago & i was sceptical myself however when he inserted the needles in calf i felt like huge bolts of "electricity" shooting down my legs to my feet & i was stunned.By someone highly skilled i dont think is a placebo but maybe more likely to do with nerve activation & release of Endorphins but im not an Acupuncturist so thats all speculation & not necessarily correct.I understand if you dont wish to believe me as its only my word though. My issue though is that she shoudnt be claiming that Janet Jackson lost weight this way unless she really did.If J.J lost weight using this torch or used this torch at the same time while she was doing excercise, etc then perhaps? technically seller could make this claim &it would be left up to debate whether this light had any part or not but if J.J didnt use this light at all then its just outright lies/deception to pull sales, itdeceives potential customers so i'll report it.Come to Australia TTC-we have Medicare:) more

Voting Question: Car rear window decal for advertising my jewelry business? Ideas, please...?

I am a jewelry artist, with several target clients. Please feel free to take a look at my shop, at http://WinterMoonJewelry.etsy.com to get an idea of what I make and sell. We've all seen those rear window decals...the rather large ones, with logos and text, etc. Some are funny, some are for racers (or wannabes), and some are advertisements. I am, of course, looking for the latter. What do you think would work for advertising? Just my moon and snowflake logo, or some sort of jewelry picture? Remember, these are one color (usually white), so I can't just take a picture of one of my pieces and use it. Thank you so much for your suggestions!!sevenbucksdown, cute! ;D And yes, I am most definitely asking a question and looking for ideas, NOT trying to do sneaky advertisement. I'm a real person, not a bot. :) I only link my shop so if someone was so inclined, they could get a feel for what I actually sell before answering. Just saying "jewelry," I could sell just about anything from platinum & diamonds to crappy plastic kids' stuff. :) more

Voting Question: Fast food advertising contributes to obesity in children-- Counterarguments?

Hi,everyone I'm currently working on my argumentative essay and I can't come up with concrete counter argument for it. My thesis is " Fast food contributes to childhood obesity because of the abundance and overexposure of advertisements to children. Here are my supporting points: 1. Food advertising on television have an influence on children's food choices and preferences on which influencing their ongoing eating habits. 2.Young children have little understanding of the persuasive intent of advertising. I need to add a counter argument for these arguments.. Any ideas would be fine. Thank you! more

A company got evicted (but didn't go bankrupt) and wants to sell all of its inventory. They want to do a blow-out auction sale and hired me to market it. Can I use the stock photos of their products in my advertisements? The company and products are all 100% legal, but the owner had never done much advertising and didn't know what his rights were. I'm Canadian, btw.The problem is that I'm not just posting something on eBay- I'm printing 30 000 flyers with my name, phone number and email address on them. Resolved Question: is it good enough? please help me edit it?

well, I got this speech from one of the answers I got on yahoo answers and I deleted and added some sentences to it though, but can any of you guys help me edit the speech so that it's more good? so, here's the speech about "advertisement plays a big role on this modern world": Ever since the Industrial Revolution, there have been changes in attitudes of firms. From being production oriented, to being product oriented and to now retaining and increasing customers. This is where advertising plays a role, to bring in customers and make others aware of products and services available. Advertising which historically started off in the form of posters and public announcements and now it has been more than that, like the commercials on TV or a huge billboard while we’re driving. In our modern life, it is difficult to shy away from advertising no matter if we are on our way to school or office, a simple walk outside or even surfing the web. Why it plays an important part in the modern world is the increasing competition among companies and they use advertising to let the society know about their product so that people would be attracted to their product and thus, the competitor will lose, as a result, the first company will be more successful. This explains why companies now spend a great deal of money on advertising and market research. more

Beck loses 103 sponsors as his UK television broadcast runs for five days straight without any ads. Today, Color of Change and StopBeck.com announced that the United Kingdom has forcefully rejected Fox News host Glenn Beck. Voting Question: Technology advances and gets cheaper - isn't it time that phone/internet providers just reduced their prices?

Aren't you getting a bit sick of advertisements such as, "Get up to $1800 value" on a $29 cap"? Let's just face it, everything electronic gets more advanced and cheaper to produce. For instance, in the early days of computers, a 10 Mega byte hard drive cost over $800. Now a 1 Tera byte hard drive (which has 100 000 times the amount of disk space) cost less than $100. Wouldn't it be totally ridiculous if hard drive manufacturers advertised, "Get up to $800 000 value when buying this 1 Tera byte hard drive" -- and then reason that it's based on the old dollar-per-Megabyte value? With that philosophy in mind, isn't it time that phone and internet service providers just reduced their prices? For instance, voice calls for 2 cents per minute, instead of prices such as 80 cents connection fee plus 40 cents per 30 seconds. Don't you feel like they are just ripping us off, and on top of that are treating everyone like total idiots when they claim to give you those ridiculous amounts of value for 'FREE'? To me it is exactly the type of nonsense as with the hard drive example. What do you think?BTW I'm in Australia. Pehaps prices are better where you live.@evilattorney Yes, it costs a fortune, but despite that, they brag about the billions of dollars profit each year -- but even that is irrelevant to my main question, and I believe you're missing the point... Please explain the $1800 value for $29 To me this is just a load of BS, and based on your response, obviously they have managed to con you! more

Voting Question: Does this make sense?

Magazines employ advertises to try and convince readers to by products relating to their particular magazine. These advertises want the magazines target audience to buy the product. They do this using a range of words and images put together deliberately to illustrate a constructive social meaning. By deconstructing the advertisement for the common household cleaning tool the CHUX superwipes, the reader can automatically see social messages about family, comedy and age. Social messages will be discussed by outlining the discourses throughout the advertisement, the use of intertextuality, signifiers and their connotations will also be assessed. Its year 11 english for deconstructing advertisments! possitive feedback is appreciated!!! :) more

Resolved Question: do you know a two sided ad?

My assignment was to look for an advertisement that explicitly says the negative side of a product. And it's really hard to find one since most advertisements focuses on the positive. My teacher gave heinz as an example, since they had ads that tells that heinz was too thick and takes a long time to come out of the bottle. also, an ad stating "even if it is more expensive than other brands" passes as a two-side ad. as long as it explicitly states the negative side. It can be print, or tv ad. and could you post the link too. since i would need to show the actual ad. also, this does not pertain to negative advertising against rivals. more

Resolved Question: Advertise online for free (yelp, Linkedin, kudzu, etc.)?

I have a small business. I would like to advertise myself online for free. Obviously I'm not at the national scale just yet so I would like to start with local advertisement. I'm in Atlanta, GA. So far my list is Yelp, Linkedin, Kudzu, Craigslist, Facebook/Myspace. Are there a few other really popular sites people use when looking for businesses online? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Would you pay this bill?

I advertise with an online company. They supply leads to me for the type of business service I supply. After a year with them I decided not to renew with them. I phoned them and told them I would like to cancel. They phoned me today 4 months later and told me I'm behind in payments to them. The advertisement I had with them wasn't cancelled like I requested. more

Resolved Question: 3 Idiots - Is this is responsible film. Was there a sense of responsibility in the mind of film maker & actors?

There are new shoes showroom from December 2009 by the name Converse. The brand was non existent in India. Similar shoes are priced around Rs. 500/- But due to advertisement support of 3 idiots the new entrant could price the shoes at Rs. 1200/- to Rs. 1400/-. In responsible advertising the idea is to increase the volumes and not increase in price. If any advertisement results in lesser value being delivered than the parties can not be said to be socially responsible. The movie is loosely based on a novel by Chetan Anand. But the way the changes have been incorporated in the movie, it will change the education scence for the worse. The society will be misdirected for decades to come. This is by no means a responsible cinema.AnkitRox I did not refer to ragging. The main reason is not the stressful education system for suicides. You make the education system stress free and you are on the brink of end of civilisation. It is sure not the media who can be found at the wrong end this time. yes the film makers are the business man, So they should not claim that they are socially responsible people. They could have made more money by being good and socially responsible business man. My raising the question is perfectly justified. This is the message that the people should get. more
