Resolved Question: Need chiavari chair rental for NWI wedding in September 2010?
I am looking to rent about 130-150 chiavari chairs in silver, black or white for a September 2010 wedding. I do not want to spend more than $3 a chair. Does anyone know of any companies that are in the Northwest Indiana/Chicago area?
I have a background in broadcast journalism and currently work in public relations with a background in television, radio, print and online media. I would be happy to trade my services to better a company's marketing, website, etc. that would then lower the price of their rental. Or if the company is willing to sponsor my wedding I'd be happy to advertise their company information in our wedding program.
Please help! Thank you very much. This would completely transform my hall into the timeless elegant day I'm envisioning.

moreResolved Question: Question regarding the current AT&T advertising campaign?
The current ad campaign, featuring Luke Perry as their spokesman, spends 2 full commercial periods per run talking about all the cities AT&T serves, covering a map with postcards.
Why?
The only cities they name are large cities with populations of roughly 100,000+ people (estimate), the kind of city EVERY cell phone company covers. Seriously, are there any national cell phone providers that don't cover Chicago and San Fransisco?
Does anyone out there find this an effective marketing campaign?
Now I'm not a huge Verizon fan (even though they are my current provider) trying to trash talk another company. I've had Cingular, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon at various times. AT&T doesn't address the challenge Verizon posits to their 3G network coverage. Nor does the ad campaign mention piddly little midde-of-nowhere towns where service is usually limited to 1 decent choice (usually Verizon).
So once again, my question is: does anyone find this current ad campaign effective? Why or why not? Thank you. You're right, it is Luke Wilson. My mistake

X-Hale and Roti
Thank you Mr. Gates for the opportunity that you have provided with helping me to realize my dream. With 300,000 I have come up with three influential and revolutionary business ideas that ensure success and to do well in the market. First one is a going to be a hookah lounge called the “X-Hale” and from there I will also operate my online business called “X-Hale.com. My third business is going to be a restaurant called “Roti”. In these economic hard times I believe my business will be affordable and will appeal to the common consumer.
First business I am going to invest in is X-Hale hookah lounge located in Des Plaines, IL near Oakton Community College. Proximity of the hookah lounge is going to bring in more students who are going to be my primary faction of customers. The products I am going to provide is hookahs, different flavored tobacco like Traditional, Kiwi-Strawberry, Lemon, Mango, Margarita, Mocha Latte, Orange, Papaya Mango, Peach and etc. Also, along with these products I will provide customers with Hookah accessories that include Hookah Vase, Hookah Bowls, Hookah Hoses, and Hookah cleaning supplies. Also I plan on serving homemade Asian desserts, Middle Eastern drinks and snacks. Even though other Hookah lounges carry the same products my business is going to be more service orientated. It will also comparatively be less profit oriented which will have the appeal to customers, mainly Oakton students, coming back for more. I will also introduce a commission base to make part of the basic salary for certain products. Hence increasing the positive compactions amongst employees which in turn will increase sales and customer satisfaction. I will be investing $150,000 total. It will include $125,000 for the location, exterior, and the interior design. $25,000 will go towards the inventory and $5000 will go towards homemade products.
Second business will be on-line which will be operated from X-Hale’s location. It will offer the same products with higher price and will come with incentives. 1 out of every 20 customers will receive a coupon to get 10 percent off when they visit to X-Hale. I will spend $25,000 to set up a computer domain and additional system which will operate 24hrs a day. I will spend $15,000 on X-Hales website and advertising, I will advertise on Facebook, Myspace, newspapers, and in local colleges. Furthermore I will visit local colleges setting up booths and advertise X-hale lounge and online business by passing out flyers and coupons. Another 10,000 dollars is going to be spent on bringing in packaging materials and also for elaborate decorations on the office of online business. It’s going to be successful on the fact that it will be an attachment of the X-hale. Furthermore, it will receive much of its advertising in the hookah lounge itself. This is going to indirectly promote the online business as well as the retail location. Thus both the online as well as the X-hale would actually be complimentary to each other.
The third business I want to do is an exquisite high end Middle Eastern/ Pakistani and Indian restaurant. It will offer a wide variety of Middle Eastern cuisine. Its location is going to be in the heart of downtown Chicago. The menu will contain about 25 different varieties of dishes including kebabs’, hummus, biriyani and other traditional cuisines. The customer group targeted at is mainly people of Asian origin. As Chicago boasts huge population diversity in this matter it will surely help the business. The spicy food of the East already has earned a good amount of praise among other cultures. Furthermore it will present a difference experience from the traditional fast food customers hence it is likely to attract more people from the busy outskirts of the city. It will essentially contain people trained to prepare exquisite Asian delicacies. A wholesome amount of 90,000 dollars is going to be spent on the interior and exterior of the store which will include the necessary machinery. The other 10,000 dollars will be used to build private rooms that have specially enhanced features. Further details is going to be done on the encroachment of sound and extreme care is going to be given to see that the restaurant provides both atmospheres—the calm and peaceful one or the noisy and joyous one—under one roof.
Once again I thank Mr. Gates for the award. I hope to have these businesses running in 6 months. I assure you that we will provide quality service and theses business will always remain customer-oriented. Our priority is to make X-hale and Roti into a common household name and I sure hope that each one of you will help us with your mission.

moreVoting Question: public relations personal statement?
any editing and advice would be great! i'm applying to northeastern, northwestern, u of chicago, usc, mcgill, bentley, pace, johns hopkins and stanford! this is a topic of my choice
The media shapes the world around us. Others may argue differently, but public relations is involved in every aspect of the media, the messages it sends to society, and how it shapes our opinions.
To maintain and create positive reputation and representation of organizations or individuals is challenging. Public relations is subjective and ever changing; it is truly never a dull moment. Public relations brings refreshing challenges constantly and I believe this is why it appeals to me because of its constant and unexpected changes.
From many experiences of organizing and actively participating in fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and school events, I have learnt to build my skills of persuasion and manipulation – both of which are important for the public relations industry. These opportunities have given me the ability to adapt and organize events for different audiences, subjective to their purposes. I volunteer for different summer camps each year, and I am an afterschool part time rhythmic gymnastics coach for children less than six. In my spare time, not only do I enjoy reading autobiographies of people in the entertainment, political, and sports industry, I also love travelling and experiencing different cultures, languages and customs. I am fascinated with the person behind the public figures who have helped build and create their reputations, as well as the different approaches in advertising for a place of travel.
During the end of my junior year in high school, I was in the running for Vice Head Girl. The job of a Vice Head Girl is to organize social events for the whole student body. "The caterpillar does all the work but the butterfly gets all the publicity."- George Carlin. Albeit I lost to a worthy opponent, I did not dwell long on the fact that I failed, but I continued to try and be involved. Evidently, I do not mind being the caterpillar. Though I could not gain official recognition for my involvement, I participated as much as I could in the planning process of our senior year’s first few social events- our annual school market and the school dance.
Of the many things that I do in life, I do with passion. For example, I play badminton and train competitively throughout the year. I have also been appointed as Co-Captain and Captain of my school team for three consecutive years. It has always been a part of my life and I am still active in the game, whether it is training three times a week, training others, or just playing for leisure.
I am ambitious and adaptive, motivated and organized. I want to learn from the best and become the best. In the future, I do not only want everyone to be mindful of the positive reputation that I build for others, but also the reputation I build for myself. A bold statement by Nikos Kazantzakis: ‘since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality.’ It is not a simple Nike way of thought, “Just Do It,” but as PR, the least we can do is adapt to the situation, and face it with integrity.

moreResolved Question: What is Your Dream NHL?
I was thinking have a 2 team expansion so the NHL has an even 32 teams, 8 divisions of 4.
I dont think the the talent pool is watered down, there is plenty of talent out there in Europe and all the top players in the AHL.
The expansion would go to Seattle (large population and an old but empty arena) and Portland (large and arena and only one other pro team). Detroit moves back to the Eastern Conference. Then there`s the relocation...
Coyotes move to Winnipeg (hockey crazy)
Preds move to Houston (one of the largest markets in the USA)
Panthers move to Hamilton or Toronto (huge hockey crazy market)
Thrashers move to Virginia Beach (8 million people no major pro teams in any league)
The Devils or the NYI (over crowded area) move to Quebec City or New England (Quebec is hockey crazy and New England has a lot of large cities in that area, i know the whalers moved but if the team had an arena in more of a central location in NE i think the support could be there)
I would make the conferences look like the following...
EASTERN CONFERENCE
Canadian East
Montreal Canadians
Quebec
Ottawa Senators
Hamilton
Northeast
Toronto Maple Leafs
Detroit Red Wings
Buffalo Sabers
Boston Bruins
Atlantic
Philadelphia Flyers
Pittsburgh Penguins
New York Rangers
New Jersey Devils
Southeast
TB Lightning
Carolina Panthers
Virginia beach
Washington
WESTERN CONFERENCE
Canadian West
Vancouver Cunucks
Edmonton Oilers
Calgary Flames
Winnipeg
Northwest
Seattle
Portland
Colorado
San Jose
Southwest
LA Kings
Anaheim Ducks
Dallas Stars
Houston
Central
St. Louis Blues
Minnesota Wild
Chicago Blackhawks
Columbus Blue Jackets
And players wise I think there should be 19 skaters, that 19th spot would be for an enforcer. This is to get a more physical game.
No 1 point for a OT or SO loss.
TV Deal with ESPN, advertise stars like Crosby and Ovechkin a lot like the NBA does with their star players. And hype up the Stanley cup finals on every single station in the USA and have a week between the end of the semi finals and the Stanley cup. Have the season start 3 weeks earlier, more games at the beginning of the year in Europe, more friendly matches against European teams. And my final thing, only a 2 minute minor for fighting.By the way, Atlanta may be a larger market but how large of a HOCKEY market is it?There is a bit of misunderstanding about Virginia beach, the state its self has close to 8 million, not the city. I apologize.
I was thinking about Indiana, due to the history of the Racers in the WHA but I decided there is other cities that deserve a team more than Indianapolis.
I was talking about Portland, Oregon, and the 3 are not that close. Seattle and Vancouver are close but Portland isn't, its just also in the Northwest.
What about Salt Lake City?... i was thinking there instead of Portland.

I'm interested in furthering my education and career in Graphic Design. I've been a graphic designer for about 4 years at a local university within their Communications & Marketing Department. However, the university I'm at doesn't offer a master's degree in graphic design or advertising design. Besides, I stayed in my hometown for undergrad and am desperately seeking to get away to experience more.
So.. currently I'm in the midwest 2 hours from Chicago. I loathe the cold and long winters and want to relocate for grad school somewhere warm. I've considered Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta, and have long been interested in Dallas, TX.
Could anyone suggest other universities or institutes in those places (or other places near those) that have programs worth looking into? Or simply, what areas in the south have thriving design communities that would most likely offer post grad opportunities?
Thanks again. :)Does anyone know if UNT has a good graduate program for a MFA in Design?

New glossy contemporary lifestyle magazine targets American Muslim girls.
Chicago, IL (PRWeb) January 19, 2007 -- American teen Muslim girls are much like teen girls everywhere – so says a recent nationwide study of Muslim girls aged 14-18 years. The study was conducted on behalf of Muslim Girl Magazine , a new bi-monthly glossy magazine launched this month to give 400,000 American Muslim teen girls a lively and uniquely relevant perspective on contemporary living.
“Our study showed that these girls go to public school, watch a little too much television, read teen magazines, surf the Internet, use Google, enjoy YouTube, play video games, shop a lot, talk on the telephone and spend time just hanging out,” says Faye Kennedy, VP at execuGo Media, the publisher that commissioned the study. “In short, they are pretty much like most other American teenagers.” The study also highlighted some likely differences: for example, they get news at Al Jazeera, socialize at IslamiCity and count among their top hobbies, Qur’an study.
The research confirmed Kennedy’s hunch: teen Muslim girls in America would love a lifestyle magazine that does what no other teen girl magazine has done for them – give them a means of enjoying contemporary life within the values they love. Over 90% of the panel, when shown the initial concept, indicated that they liked it, thought it was what they need, would read it and would recommend it to their friends.
Ausma Khan, PhD, writer, human rights lawyer and activist, liked the concept so much that she left a teaching position at Northwestern University to become Editor in Chief. “Most representations of Muslims in the media are negative,” she says. “Muslim Girl Magazine challenges those perceptions by telling the stories of Muslim teens who are proud to be American and who contribute to American society in so many positive ways. This is a chance for their voices to be heard. Our editorial mandate is to ‘enlighten, celebrate and inspire’ them.”
Challenging stereotypes about Muslim girls in America, Muslim Girl Magazine re-defines the face of Muslim youth in America. Its innovative content showcases teen girls who are equally proud of their identity as Americans and Muslims, while not shying away from the conflict inherent in being both. It also shakes up the complacency of Muslims themselves by emphasizing the diversity of practice within American Muslim communities, typically a no-go area.
The premiere issue of the magazine features girls who have joined the Peace Corps and volunteered in Indonesia. Advice columns tackle everything from boyfriends to divorced parents to anti-Muslim discrimination. Regular departments range from Qur’an Notes to Hot List reviews of TV shows like The CW Television Network’s ‘Gilmore Girls.’ And a special feature on the hit show ‘24’ directly confronts the biggest elephant in the room—the association of Muslims with terrorism.
Khan says, “We’re showing hijab-wearing basketball players alongside contemporary fashion designers and artists. We want to dispel the notion that Muslim teens conform to one particular model. Veiled or unveiled, Muslim girls participate fearlessly in sports, the arts, international travel and their local mosques.”
Muslim Girl Magazine launched with a planned circulation of 50,000 copies per issue in the first year and expects to grow to 100,000 within two years. Dianna Hightower, Publisher and Director of Business Development and Advertising, expects advertising to grow quickly. “Today the Muslim market is where the Hispanic market was five years ago — on the verge of a major breakout. Households of Muslim girls comprise a valuable commercial profile with higher than average scores on income, education, occupation and size. Having Fox Broadcasting and Oxford University Press advertise in our first issue is evidence that prestigious and smart advertisers see strong potential.”
Muslim Girl Magazine is published by award-winning execuGo Media of Toronto, Canada and distributed worldwide by RCS of Los Angeles, California. The cover price is $4.95 US ($5.95 CDN). The annual subscription rate is $19.99 at www.muslimgirlmagazine.com.

I'd like to pursue a career in graphic design. I already have a BA in Advertising and Marketing. I thought about getting another degree in graphic design but with already having a degree and a number of years of work experience I didn't think it was necessary. Are there any really good programs in Chicago, live- not online- which offer certification in graphic design programs?

moreResolved Question: What does everyone think about yesterday's Boston incident?
The two behind the advertising gimic were arrested and are being held in jail for this. These signs had been up for a few weeks and also in mulitple cities.
"The packages in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger," Turner said in a statement. It said the devices have been in place for two to three weeks in 10 cities: Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Ore., Austin, Texas, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
I just dont see how and why they are trying to prosecute these guys for this.
"It is outrageous, in a post 9/11 world, that a company would use this type of marketing scheme," Mayor Thomas Menino said Wednesday. "I am prepared to take any and all legal action against Turner Broadcasting and its affiliates for any and all expenses incurred during the response to today's incidents."
It isn't their fault they weren't running around saying the sky is falling. The only thing I think they could be charged with is maybe not having the right permits to hang the signs up.To Arkiamom, the fact that they had been posted for 2-3 weeks, defietes the whole argument of what if they were bombs and terrorist had planted them. If they were well looks like they were a little late to respond don't you think.
